    How I got into IM

My friend introduced me to BHW in the beginning of last year. So I've been lurking here a few months before I made the acc. And well as you can see from my post count I just kept on lurking. But it was very effective as I've read tons of journeys and guides and learned a lot.

My lurking carreer changed after I read through Argans journey and saw how quick progress he was making because he had a solid plan and experience. As you can guess I lacked the experience but I wanted my piece of that Amazon money so I started my own thing in October last year after getting the idea for a niche from a friend.

    About the site

I'm trying to make an authority site, so I got a rather broad niche. Since I'm an university student and I got no money, nothing has been outsourced, since today. That's the reason why the growth has been slow, but it's steady and I'm happy with it. But today I started finding a copywriter and got one article coming in.

The site has 4 silos, a 5th one is on the way in the next weeks when I get the content from writers. The 5th silo's content will be outsourced just to compare how it will rank when compared to my own content. And also I have a 5k word pillar article which is something my site has never had. The longest article on the site is a bit under 2k. So it will be interesting to see, how it's going to perform.

The site has about 41k words separated into about 70 articles. Some of them are supporting, informative articles, some are top number/best keyword articles, but most are just product reviews.

Right now the site averages about 90 uniques a day. All traffic comes from google.

The site has about 50 backlinks. Most of them are niche related(idk if that matters at all). A few of them are self-made web 2.0s, a few aged tumblrs, some social media and most others are forum and article comments.

The site also has active IG, Twitter and Fb. Fb has bought likes but IG and Twitter both have about 2k active followers, farmed with Massplanner. I don't use them for conversion, just backlinks and it adds value to the authority.

    Goals with this site

The current conversion rate in Amazon is about 6.7% but the conversion rate from my site to Amazon is only about 20% which I think is very low. The main reason for this is that all the focus has been on creating content and backlinks. Since nothing is outsourced and I want everything to be of high quality, it takes a lot of time. The bad conversion rate is probably due to not enough ways to lead people to Amazon. I only had ‘buy now' buttons and product pictures with aff links. The newer articles which have text links in them seem to convert a lot better and today, I also added some new CTA's which should increase conversion. Now that the content is outsourced I'll put all my time into experimenting and increasing conversion because there's a lot more money to be made with that traffic.

My main goal for now is to reach 1k/month. It should be realistic since there is a lot more content available to add to this site and I'm nowhere near to the optimal CTR to Amazon yet. With current situation, I think I'm missing out a lot of revenue because of the shitty CTR.

I'm not sure if I covered all important aspects. Ask away if I didn't mention something important or just ask pretty much anything you want.

    Current issues

Does it matter if backlinks are from niche related sites? Some wise people say it matters, some people say it doesn't as long as the website itself is with high metrics.
What is a good site to Amazon conversion rate? I know argan has about 80% but he's a god and idk if that's realistic for peasants like me.

Not a huge fan of affiliate links on pictures if you're looking at authority. I've you ever seen these on the biggest sites ?
I know you can easily get some cookies and sales from them, but in my opinion they scream "I'm here to make money not advice".

Also, custom sidebars on each article/reviews with links to products is a great option imo.

Anyway, good luck on your journey ! You should get to your goals in a few months if you keep writing this much and target more KW.

I was just thinking about removing them and adding more text links and CTA's. As I mentioned before I totally disregarded working on the conversion rate and it hit me that so much traffic is wasted. Now that I think about it then yep, they're more desperate than beneficial and I should work on that.

As for the sidebar I got a plugin that shows articles in the same silo/category on the sidebar if that's what you meant.

    Thanks a lot!

    Good luck bro!

May I know how much is your monthly earning now ?
I know that your site might still be new, but with 90 daily visitors, I guess you have got some aff earning

Yes, I am making some pennies, but the orders are still unstable and not frequent at all. For February, it has been 1,5 USD/day, but there are some products yet to be shipped. So I guess for this month, I predict it to be about 45 USD.

    Small update

Since I haven't outsourced any content before, I thought the best way to find out the best writers is to try different resources. So far, I have ordered two articles from BHW, 8USD/1K words(different providers) and have one 5USD/1K words contract on Upwork. Today I received the first article from BHW. I didn't know what quality to expect, but I hoped for a better article. It's just not very well researched, and had to made some of my own modifications. Maybe just that's the quality what I get for 5-8 USD, or my niche isn't that easy to write about. Of course, there are writers starting from 20USD/1K words, but I just don't have funds for this kind of investment yet.

I also added two articles by myself to the site: ~700 words and ~900 words.

Also, I thought I'm going to make a retrospect of the last week on every Sunday. I'm going to include amount articles/words added, revenue made, keyword rankings or anything else I find important or interesting.

A thought on how to increase clicks to Amazon. Right now I have only 'Buy Now' buttons included in articles. Maybe, it would convert people more if they would say 'Check for best prices' or 'Check out more options' instead. 'Buy Now' might scare some people away if they're not ready to buy yet and then I haven't any more good ways to get them to Amazon. I guess it also depends on the niche and where people could be more impulsive or emotional buyers. I'm going to try different options on the pages with highest traffic, to see if it has any effect.

The writer from Upwork didn't finish the article on time. I think he was just fishing for keywords and wasn't even planning to write the article. Don't know for sure but I really don't trust this platform that much. However, I finally found a decent writer on BHW. I've ordered an 8USD/1K word article before from them but the quality wasn't that good. This time I chose a premium writer for 11USD/1K words and I'm pretty satisfied - I didn't have to change much myself.

The new silo/subcategory seems to be ranking quite well(KW rankings in attachment). I'm also working on the comprehensive 5K word article about the category myself. I hope to nail a bigger amount of keywords than normally with this article.

I used Odesk a few years back and found some good writers at great prices. Since they merged and became Upwork, I think the quality of the workers have dropped.

I posted a WP job on there which should be anout $50 and bids ranged from $20 to $200.

Yea, it seems like for me now its easier to order articles from a team of writers with prior experience and authority.

One annoying thing about wordpress is that its real pain in the butt to track Google Analytics events with it. Every time I inject tracking code in html view and switch back to visual view, the tracking code is automatically scrapped by wordpress. So its really annoying to A/B test different call to actions and conversions.
On the upside, the premium quality article I received this week seems to perform quite well. The keywords I targeted have a pretty decent search volume and they are already ranking surprisingly good.(attachment) The only way is up.

An hour ago I noticed a HUGE spike in today's traffic to website. At first I thought they're most likely ghost or spam views. But as I dug deeper, it turned out that a major brand that I have been writing some reviews about, has somehow found my website, liked what they saw & read, and TWEETED the review article to their 144K Twitter followers. The traffic on the website is through the roof. There are constantly ~10 people on the site and there has been already 66 clicks to Amazon, while usually there's only ~20 clicks throughout the whole day.

It's a really neat surprise and certainly made my day

I finally finished the 'mother of all articles' for my new subcategory. It's about 5,5K words long and targets ~10 keywords with very decent monthly searches. One of my competitor has a similar article and he ranks on page one with all of these keywords. I believe I could outrank him, but it takes time, and probably some web 2.0s to this silo & article.
