So I found a amazing auction domain with great links everything checks out except about july last year it was 301 redirected to another site (the companys other page).

My question is will the backlinks still have value? I remember Googles team mentioning that after a long enough time of 301 google just knows that another site is its 301 and your domain can expire while you retain the links. Not sure if that was bs or not.

Anyone tested this out before and can recommend?

From my past experience, after 301 has been disabled for some time the links will be attributed to the original website.

You said this happened in the past.

Is the domain still redirected? Where does it point now?

The 301 was dissabled about 2 months ago when the domain was put on auction by its registrar. It currently points to a page that says the domain is expiring and being auctioned

    I think that's too soon.

I would wait much longer and in the meantime deploy a website on it and resurrect old pages.

    Make it well indexed again.

Thanks for the reply Tiib. I was considering that but the pages are all copyright from a bigger company, heavy risk of lawsuit for replicating. Would resurecting the same urls but with different content (still somewhat related to the niche be a problem?)

    No problem.

Yes, that's what I meant. Just resurrect the URL structure and use brand new, copyright free, relevant, original content.
