"07/10/20 Updating this thread. I've come a long way. Remember, a journey is a journey. I fell out from the journey thread, being stupid. Insecure with my sales and service. I even got covid.

I'm here to tell you, you're the shit. My mental game has changed. I am still the same person, but I don't make excuses anymore. I am still slowly developing myself into the man I want to be. I'm not even going to read what my posts and comments were on this thread.

At the end of the day, I laid out my services. What I had experience with. What I was confident with. Social Media Management. I made packages at different price points. I targeted a niche that had money and knows about social media (who doesn't in today's world?). I said fuck it. I started cold emailing again. Tested different copy. I've got something that works. Not only that, but instead of being a bitch like I used to be, I have confidence. It's difficult to make calls, but I do it. That's what being a man is, being uncomfortable and accepting it.

If there's a problem, I look at it and fix it.

I've had 2 calls now and just sent 1 proposal and am sending another 1 tonight. Both are interested in social media management.

The calls went well. I found out what I need to work on on each call. The first one went super well. The second one was worse, but it gave me a lot of insight to improve on next time.

I will send these two proposals and have a follow up call with them. I am still setting up more appoints from emails and am following up with people who I've sent my portfolio.

I am ONLY focusing on social media management sales. If a client can be upsold, I will upsell them. But I am only focusing on social media game. I will update where I can.

A year from now I will be looking back at this journey. Making $10k a month and reaching new heights and working on different goals.

But this is my beginning."

I'm opening this thread as something to make sure I don't quit. And a reminder to keep pushing. Cold outreach, sales is very uncomfortable. For the next months I will be

1. Optimizing my full sales process
2. Managing my time and schedule better to relieve stress
3. Getting more socially comfortable with prospects
4. Quitting porn
5. Building my agency from the ground up

For the past three years my full income is from IM. Though agencies outsource work to me, so the clients I work for don't know anything about me or my agency. I want to change that. But as you know, getting sales is easier said than done. I don't have any referrals. All my contacts at first will be completely cold.

My plan is to promote organic local marketing. So local SEO, reviews management, and business listing optimization. These are ,IMO, the first thing any local business should work on. Then outsource services like PPC, social media management, web design as an upsell.

How do I plan on getting clients? I do cold email outreach. It works. It matters how you do it I think. You have to have the right spin, the right target emails, or none of it will work. I was promoting social media management through cold email and get about 5-10 warm leads per day. Unfortunately I'm not a social media guy (content), so I've been trying to find another agency to off hand those to (if interested, I have JV on here :p )

So I've decided to go with promoting my SEO services instead through cold email. I have a VA who helps me and the past 2 weeks I have been testing different approaches. I've found one that has got me 4 interested leads, so will be testing this more. These 4 guys are entering my pipeline.

The sales process aka pipeline will go like this: (I've taken a ton of info on sales from BHW and this is the best process I think to start off with is).

1. Cold email
2. Warm lead to setup a call
3. Find a few keywords, a bit of info about competition
4. Hop on the call, ask a few questions to see if they're a good fit
5. Most of the time, they'll ask what we're trying to offer. I won't say SEO, but instead say we're a full scale marketing agency that specializes in local work. Generating more business and reviews.
6. Setup a time for another call to go over competition research + strategy
7. I will research their competitors. Check keywords, what they're doing wrong. Offer solutions and prepare a doc.
8. Send comp research + hop on our scheduled call and ask for the sale

Sounds easier than it is. Though I like this approach. And they're pretty warm from the cold email, so they at least know what I'm trying to offer. Specifically the email says something like "generate more local clients". I will be optimizing this throughout testing so we'll see how the process goes the first few times.

I'll be posting here every few days with updates. This will be more of a "growing my agency from zero to hero" thread, but sales is the gist of it.

Feel free to ask any questions. I won't give away the niche I'm targeting or any of my scripts.

Here's also a few quotes from another thread that I thought were really helpful:

  • One thing that makes cold-calling a bit easier (or any sort of outreach) is not to assume any outcomes! Basically, if something sticks consider it a BONUS! Always move on to the next!
  • While in this Newbie Sales-funnel we are not relying on Cold-Calling, you’d still have to pick up the phone at some point to phone your warm prospects. Just remember that almost everyone hates cold-calling like you. This fact alone makes it a bit easier knowing that you are in the same boat as most people out there.
  • It is perfectly NORMAL for your heart to race a bit with any sort of cold-approach whether it’s by phone or a face-to-face meeting. Just know that it is normal, it’s generic, and it always goes away within the first 30-60 seconds. It may feel like it will last forever, but it always GOES on its own!
  • You TRULY got nothing to lose!
Think about it this way.. If you get a “NO”, everything remains the same and you are just maintaining the status quo. You haven’t lost anything extra! But the moment you get a YES!, consider it a bonus and still .. MOVE ON!

  • It is normal to have FEAR of success, and FEAR of things not working in your favor. You can always get back to your ‘Safe-Zone’ from 9-to-5. But no one achieves something different or great by sticking to what is safe and predictable. Look around and see what “Safe” looks like. It’s most people! You automatically set yourself apart by being here! and you ONLY fail the moment you stop.
  • Take a break every now and then to re-charge your batteries -This is absolutely critical for GEEKS/NERDS/Introverts. Just don’t quit totally, always get back after a short-break. Consistency = Results!
  • Lastly, All you need is one “YES” to turn your life around! Getting more business will always be easier as you can either Rinse-&-Repeat the funnel, or you can ask for and get referrals later off of the few clients you previously closed a deal with.

Testing an email copy. Remember to keep cold email simple. People have low attention spans ESPECIALLY when reading business emails.

Tested it last night and got 5 people who responded ready for a call. One was a really good response saying he would "LOVE" to talk more about it.

The copy went something like this " I saw your business online and had a vision to get you more clients.

It's good for <niche>

Do you have time for a call? "

Not word for word. The only worry I have is that once I actually bring up what the service is (SEO), they'll lose interest. But I'm going to word it as to not be selling SEO. As business owners want the end result, and don't care for fancy terms like SEO)

Will give these guys a call today and update here.

I am following this as I have come across the OP's posts before and they are all golden!

Haha quick update. Just reached out to the 3 of the 4 people who responded to me today. And another from yesterday, so 4 calls.

I don’t know why I’m nervous before sales calls. Which is why this journey will be good. I spent a bit nervous before and picked up the phone. The first response which was good, I called him up and the number was a Domino’s number. I actually thought it was hilarious and replied back to his email about it.

The second guy was from Canada. They’re a construction company, but their online presence is completely bunk. Getting destroyed in a relatively easy market. I called him up and he didn’t even let me finish introducing myself before he asked where I was from. I said I’m based in the US and then he basically said he has someone handling it. Which can’t be true and sounded like he just didn’t want to talk.

I might call/email him and bring up his competitors. Which are absolutely crushing it because they’re #1 with a bad site for a bunch of keywords because there’s no competition.

His site is trash so I should bring it up.

The 3rd and 4th guys didn’t answer. I’ll follow up by call tomorrow. Will also send them an email now saying I gave them a call.

These are all blue collar workers and I called at 3PM. I’m thinking they may be in a rush on a project and are busy. Anyone know the best time to call is? Maybe after 5:30PM

Also, the one other response I got wanted to setup a call. So we’ll be talking tomorrow at 10AM.

Other than those calls, I did my usual work. Also came up with a script to go off of which helps me a lot. Starting emails for today now and we’ll see the responses tonight/morning.

Thanks man! You are great! I’m on the same boat, testing and testing years and years every kind of customers, to understand how to approach depending in what they want and what they can. Now it’s time to make us money not just them! :smirk:

Today I'm going to setup another domain to send emails from to be able to send out more emails. So I should be able to double our amount of leads.

I also didn't mention it before, but I don't have a website. It's just something I've never needed. But I think it will be good social proof. I plan on going for an average website, not a crazy professional look. But keep the focus on our reviews, case studies, and overall results.

Will be working on that today and following up with some more leads. I got 4 positive responses again this morning. I'm not sure WHEN the best time to call them is. Since they're blue collar niches, it feels better to call later evening. Does anyone have experience with it?

I'm targeting about 6 different niches in blue collar work industries. I am still testing, but may drop this one niche I'm targeting. Because it seems like they're always responding that they get too many clients or are booked up with projects for months in advance.

Will update.

You can get a lovely one page website made using www.carrd.io. Domain + website + hosting won't cost more than $25.

I had a wound on my foot get infected. Apparently with some bacteria so am treating it now. Wasn't working yesterday at all.

Today I took care of my IM work from previous project. And setup another domain to send emails from. Will be start sending today and once fully setup, together I'll be sending out about 300 emails per day.

I am also finishing up on the site. I finished the homepage. And now just need to finish adding results, case studies, services, and contact us page. The main focus of the site is to have social proof and results + reviews. I think it will help my conversion a ton since all of my outreach is cold.

Sales may be a bit harder since the holidays are coming up. I hope to get a few clients from cold and do awesome work for them and work to get referrals.
