    Hey there guys.

Im a 31 years old argentinian musician with a dream: Work and travel around the world. But i dont want to do any kind of work, i want it to be related to my music and the guitar.

On the other hand I also lives with my girlfriend who shares this dream. What is she going to do to make money is still a mystery. She has a degree on advertising but has no idea about online marketing and has lots of experience on tourism. Right now she works at an office 9 hours a day and really hates her job. I won´t leave her behind so we have to solve our two situations before we leave this country.

So far i´ve been working on this plan. For almost two years now with no money results.

The plan so far has been:

    • Create an online music school.
    • Earn at least 5000 dollars a month. Enough to travel around living a very modest lifestyle and save a little.
    • Have 20 guitar students and charge them between 100 and 200 dollars per month.
    • Make money with passive income related to music content.

Should add that right now I need to make more money so Im fully focused on the getting online students part to get out this situation.

What I have achieved so far:

    The online music school

Created the online music school after 2 years of work. Didnt make a penny i really dont know how to promote it well. Anyway this project is in standby until I have more students and money to invest in it. Its a working platform so I use it with my students.

What I tried so far with little results:
    1. Facebook advertising
    2. Facebook contests
    3. Ninja blaster (keeps getting banned)
    4. Adwords

Became a pretty decent guitar teacher and guitarist

Ive been working as a teacher for 4 years right now (after having studied since 1998). I used to have 20 students at my house but focused on working on a music school for a lousy salary and lost most of them in time. I did it to invest time in my online music school project. Right now it backfired and Im in need of more money. The situation of my country is pretty bad so Im looking to make it with online teaching.

Im good at making websites and know a bit of programming

I have several websites and a multihosting account. I have my own personal site from where im promoting my classes. A producer site from where i promote my work as music producer and my online music school site wich is a LMS with strong community aspects but no users.

    The stats and goals...

    • Online students: 2 (charge them 500 pesos each, that would be around 50 dollars a month).
    • Websites: 3
    • Money earned with online teaching: 100 USD a month.
    • Money earned with online passive income: 0

    Short term goals

    • Keep working in spanish until I become more proficient at teaching in English.
    • Reach the 20 students charging them at least 100 USD a month.
    • Leave my job in the music school. The salary is really bad.

    Medium term goals

    • With my money problem solved make my music school work and grow.
    • Have a good blog full of quality content (Ive been writing already and publishing articles)
    • Have a good youtube channel full of songs, teaching and interviews.

    Long term goals

    • Make enough money to leave this country for good and know the world as a i become a better musician and help more people.

    So thats pretty much it...

As you can see. I pretty lost on the advertising aspect. Have tried several stuff with little results. I dont see myself using a lot of accounts, bots and blackhat techniques cos my trademark is my name and it would be too risky. Also i believe my effort would be better put at creating quality content and teaching. So what would you recommend me? Stick with pay per click? Keep writing content? There are other ways to achieve this? Wich ones?

Ill keep updated about the results in my journey to become a Digital Nomad.

    See you around.

Thanks man! Since yesterday Ive been reading a Matthew Woodward step by step guide to building a successful blog and setting my video recording gear. I´m about to start filming and writing articles based on the needs of my students. I´ve also introduced some stuff into the blog such as comment redirection and an increased focus on subscription.

In my recent experience people doesnt seem to read much mails anymore. A friend of mine is doing some facebook advertising and directly writing to the people who likes his fanpage. Im going to test that too. He has seen some results. My niche is particular in the fact that you can spend a big amount of money on advertising. As long as you get one student youll recover the investment.

I know that in the long term I have to focus more on content creation than simply teaching... But for now I need the money.

Also been having a great dichotomy about producing content in english or spanish. Im not that fluent in english so Ill go with spanish for now, even knowing that in english i could be charging way more money.

Ill keep you guys updated and thanks for your posts.

Never too long in one place.
Here's a hint for you: Cambodia.

You go there. Pay 270 bucks or so per year of visa. That does not give you the right to work, but in reality you can work anyway. The police there are very weak.

You do not need 5000 bucks or so to live. You need about 2000 bucks for the both of you.

I take it your girl speaks English. So she can work in a hotel in some semi-managerial role I guess.

You either do the online music things for students everywhere, or you start an NGO to teach locals music. You spend the time that you do not spend teaching, collecting money for this NGO. Pay yourself a modest wage from the NGO.

We´ve discussed topics like that with my girlfriend (yes, she speaks english better than me actually). There are pages like nomadlist that even score cities considering stuff like internet connection, security and such. Thailand, Cambodia, and other countries like that scores pretty high of course.

The point is we don´t want to stay indefinitely in one place, specially not in a place like that. I get the paradisiac setting and the low amount of money you need to get by. But in that regard Buenos Aires isn´t that bad. We actually live with less than 2000 USD here. And we rent a 3 room apartment in a pretty good part of the city. We dont have a car but dont need it. Of course, here in Buenos Aires, middle class isnt used to the american spending for example. But we usually dont have debts either.

The really bad thing about this city and country is its political corruption, constant economic crisis and lack of social cohesion. We are a very divided people right now and security is really bad. We are surely not that bad for latin america standards but we are really bad for first world standard.

So we kinda want to get away from this. Another detail: here we cant charge money in dollars. If I get paid by paypal I have to go to a place like Uruguay and get my money there. There are actually two dollars here. The official one and the "blue" one. The unofficial one that you can buy anywhere cost almost 100% more than the other that is impossible to buy for many people and restricted in amount.

So thinking like that if I were to receive dollars from another country and get the actual dollar bill i could sell those and make 100% more money in the black market. Thinking that way I could live in this country for 1000 USD.

Once again, thats not the point. The point is being able to travel. The point is I want to be able to go to expensive countries if I want to. Of course Ill have to reduce my expenses. Here with 5000 USD a month youd be considered almost a rich person. In Sydney youd be just ok.

Hey guys. As I told you before Ive been using the Mathew Woodward´s post about blogs promotion. So far ive only been optimizing my website according to his advices. Today I installed a demo of Buzzbundle an SEO Powersuite so I can test them. Anyone has any experience on those? Any advice?

So far Ive never followed the strategy of promoting on forums, blogs and that kind of stuff. So Ill be trying this approach instead of spending in pay per click and see where it takes me.

Good luck mate! I am grinding day in, day out as well, in order to travel the world. It's a great motivation!

For what it's worth, I think your English is Awesome. I'm a UK native, and from reading your posts, i wouldn't have guessed that English is not your native language.

Here people actually supports music (as far as i have seen) you know, people playing in the metro makes some nice bucks (like 20 usd per run lol). Even i dont know what the fck i was doing working 12 hours per day for a 400 USD salary.. so we left buenos aires and came to Santiago with my gf.. she is now working on a dental institute and im trying to start some websites to make money.

    Cheers!

Nice to see an argentinian here too. I have a couple of friends who migrated to Chile this year. Weve been thinking about it.

Ive been thinking a lot about focusing in writing in teaching in english. Its a way bigger market. The thing is it would be too much a of a risk right now. I leaving my payjob in the music school by january. I need to focus on getting more students right now.

Its starting to look to me that buzzbundle doesnt offer me anything I cant do manually. Actually searching for certain keywords manually seems to give way more results. Im wrong about this? The good thing is that it actually opened my eyes to this kind of marketing strategy.

    Hey man! Another Argentinian here!
I really like that you have a Dream! It all starts from there.

Earning a living from music is super possible. You even want to teach music! There's a hundred of websites where you can set up a course and sell it ! < Check that out too ..

    Here's another idea

Why don't you just set up a course like JAMORAMA.. a simple course with a few chapters that gets you playing guitar in a couple of sessions! Even if you don't know sh*t!.. That must be the most automated way to do it! Cause if you built that.. they will come..(just kidding). If you built that then all you need to do later is Promote it. You can find affiliates, put it on clickbank, anything! You would be the BOSS! Beyond being an affiliate ! Which is great!

Also let me give you a recommendation. If what you want is quick money.. then stand by and start a a parallel project.

I know I'm sounding a bit as a black cloud here.. But trust me .. If what you want is move the hell out of here (Argentina) in no time, then I strongly recommend that you start scraping the MAKING MONEY section and use some easy and fast methods that will get you the money faster!
I started a method that right now is earning $ automatic.. not much .. but hey if you save that by the end of the year you would be sitting in a couple of thousands of dollars. And I don't do it anymore but it is still earning! Get it?

Your dream is a beautiful one! But It's going to take time! .. If your main goal is to LEAVE THE COUNTRY, then hold on buddy and start to work with a more fast method! .. Then when you get to your main goal and you are making your first thousands a month with IM, and you are comfortable enough that you don't have to worry about $ or time, then go all in for your dream and it's going to come a lot more faster!!

I know that some may say "screw that and try your dream right now!" But we are not in the First World man.
Time is running ! I suggest to take a quick method (there are a lot!! ) And start making money right now!! You can be making $$ the very next week! Start now! If you want to take your girlfriend and yourself out of here.. then you need $$, and your Music School is not going to give you that any time soon.. let's be realistic.. So go on an make the money first.. You know that with just $1000 you would be living good down here..and you can be earning that in no time! Why don't you work on that while you gather ideas for your dream.. and when you start earning the money then keep on with your dream! You can invest knowledge and money in it!

Besides.. all the stuff that you are going to read in the Making Money section and all the work that you are going to put in trying some of those methods, are going to help later in the construction of your dream in a huge way!! TRUST ME .. You learn invaluable lessons from trying these methods and from reading all of this information!

You are going to be available to promote your Music School in a much better way.. because you are going to be already in the IM game ! ..

So that's my recommendation as a fellow Argentinian who also lives a similar situation .. I started to make money this year with IM .. and I didn't know sh*t ! .. but here I am starting my second project and already making money with it, while in the meantime my first project is still making money :) .. And this projects are not my dream! .. but they are a step to my dream :) Get it? You can be saving money for your trip while you keep thinking ideas for your Music Scool.

Work for it!! Work hard !! And don't give up.. You're gonna get there for sure .. just make the proper steps ! Good luck and work hard! Remember the course Idea.. Like Jamorama.. that could be good too :)

my 2 cents: make a channel on youtube and make quality videos (lessons, tips..) make videos that are full of quality information and captured well - this will make your viewers to subscribe. (on youtube or also you can make them subscribe to your email list for "special lessons")

-If you are really good musician/teacher students will demand skype lessons with you

Look up for really succesful artists/teachers on youtube for example: Felicia Ricci (vocal teacher), ken tamplin (amazing vocalist - students pay hundreds of $ for one hour skype lesson), Marty Schwarz (guitar teacher, many free lessons)... there are many out there. And I am sure that many of them are earning nice money :) . Because they are -

    -great instrumentalist
    -great teachers
    -charismatic
-providing a lot of free stuff
-building a list (emails and subscribtions)
    -not selling anything in videos
    -GREAT marketers!

I wish you all the best I really like your ambitions and dreams :) I am also a musician and teacher but not online (so far)

    regards

Urfather good advice. Ive been observing the same things than you regarding youtubers. Tomorrow Im actually filming my first video tutorials. Beside the ones ive been filming for my students.

Good stuff, Julian! Very interesting. I checked Jamorama. Ive been thinking of producing similar courses. So much to work on...

Maybe you have a point there. The one about making money fast. Have posts or reading to recommend? Cold you elaborate some more? That stuff about clickbank and courses sound interesting. Actually I have this courses platform site online already. All i need to do is upload some courses and try to monetize through that kind of stuff.

I guess Its going to be an eye opening journey...

    =)

Well im just returning home from my work at music school and just thought about updating the thread with my recent doings.

Last Sunday we had presidential elections in Argentina and things are probably going to change a bit from now on. Specially in the economic front. But who knows.

In the mean time I've been filming videos for my students and posting in my blog. Just bought a dslr camera to photograph and film my tutorials and blog stuff in a more serious way. I also introduced myself to other social networks just as instagram and Twitter.

Instagram looks like a good place to promote myself. My blog is getting to be half guitar half travel and lifestyle. The concept is to narrate my attemp to become a digital nomad and eventually my travels and promote my classes and music as well.

And going back to the idea I've been selling the stuff I won't be taking with me. Kind of embracing a more minimalist way of life.

After having fully decided my filming set, camera, logo and video style I'm starting the serious video shooting this week. After filming a couple of tutorials I'm starting the Skype classes promotion.
