Hi, I am starting an authority site. I am pretty new to this IM thing but I find it really fun. It is a hobby for me that I want to achieve success in. Little by little I will pour my free time into this and see what I can do. I have been thinking about making a my journey thread for a while now. Since I am taking this project more seriously I decided to make this. The reasons are 3 fold:

1 - Help me - your replies and responses will help me when I say what I am doing if it is something dumb or maybe you have ideas for an angle I didn't think of :D
2 - Help others - hopefully my story may encourage someone or show them another angle of doing things. Even if I fail there is a lesson in that. I have learned a lot here and hopefully I can share something useful in this thread.
3 - Keep track - I will try to be detailed with this and just keep a log of my journey. I don't plan on quitting period. Success will be inevitable just a matter of time and proper game plan to try and shorten that time with ACTION

Effort Consistently Applied Produces Tremendous Compound Results - not sure who but it is motivating

I'm sure we have all seen this quote play out in our lives in one way or another. May it was the scrawny kid in class who just kept working out and all of a sudden in a year or 2 he is muscular and fit. Maybe it is the not so smart kid who just kept hitting the books relentlessly and got into a great university. Could be the poor person who kept working hard and was frugal with what he made and with the proper investments got rich. The scenario plays out on and on all the time throughout the world. I have been that guy in some situations, in IM I am just a watcher. Not anymore. I will be that guy that keeps banging his head against the wall until it finally cracks haha

My Websites

Website 1 - A blog in an EAT niche. Health related

What a doosy this one was. My first blog and I chose a health related niche in EAT criteria of google. I did decent for a while but got so bored writing for it. It took me hours to write a post. Was not too passionate about the topic or knowledgeable and had to research a ton. I did not give up on this one but it is a on the backburner for now until I get my authority site up and running.

I am proud of this one because the CTR is decent I think especially for my first blog in an EAT niche. Will continue with it one day.

This is a site I started based on my profession. I am an authority in real life but not at all online. I want to change that.

Website Started - August 16,2020

I am writing very generally about various topics. I did not put the first 9 articles into categories yet but I will. As you can see I only have 1 more post here than site 1 but I can banging out about 3 per week with more words. About 1500 words per post but some more. I am using the income school method. The traffic on this website is still 0. I am in the sandbox stage. Ranking for easy keywords quickly though and hopefully that changes soon.

My Plan
Get some initial traffic on Site #3 with easy keywords. I am posting the articles right away as per income schools recommendations on their videos and letting them hit the sandbox as fast as possible even though the site isn't completely ready with all the features I want to implement. So here are the steps broken down below:

  1. Rank For Easy Keywords - just writing articles quickly with little research because I do this for a living. Don't care about affiliate links yet but if the opportunity arises I put them in. Interlinking with my existing articles where possible.
  2. Free Quizzes - Make some free quizzes for people who are taking licensing exams in my profession. Inspired by @Big Ron . These will be great because on the quiz plugins they have an option where each question is a different page. That will equal more page views. People love free also.
  3. Paid Quizzes - My profession is full of people eager to learn and willing to pay for it. When I have the time I will make premium quizzes. I don't want to put out garbage though because reputation is important in my industry. I want people to mention me when they talk about exam prep.
  4. Job board - Implement job board website that I purchased here. Will make a separate page on my authority site that points to it. Will offer cheap job postings for owners there and people looking for jobs can find them for free
  5. Resume services - Will offer resume tips for free and templates paid
  6. Business advice - As I run a business in my industry, I will offer advice for free, also paid sample templates of checklists people may need for my profession or business forms they will need and are annoying to find/make on your own. I know I had a hard time when I started and would definitely buy them if I knew where to when I started.
Seems ambitious right? I know, but I don't expect success any time soon. I will not be discouraged because I view this as a hobby. If I have no viewers for another view months I will just view it as a lesson. If I get them great. This process will be slow and steady and a LONG term project. My 3 posts per week may slow down to 2 after a while. I do not want to burn out but I think 2 per week is an easy enough goal. If you think about it 2 posts per week is 104 per year. Not hard to do just need CONSISTENCY.

After I get a good amount of posts I will go to the next phases. I am thinking after 30 posts I may start posting quiz questions and see where that takes me. Will update this post once a week, probably on weekends as that is when I have the most free time.

You're taking on quite a bit. Good luck.

Are you using brand new domains for all 3 sites?

Am a fan of compound effect as well!

Thanks. For site 1 and site 2 yes. For my main focus now which is site 3 it had 14 backlinks lol which is atleast something. Was used properly before according to way back machine and the name is so fitting im surprised it was available. Wish I knew more about expired domains before I got it but I will try to make it work. At least it's clean.

You're taking on quite a bit. Good luck.
Thanks. Yea, I'm gonna go at it piece by piece strategically. I view it as a 2 year project for now. Will see how the timeline goes.

I'm rooting for you.

By the way, when replying to multiple people / messages at once, please use the +Quote & Insert Quote(s) functions, so you don't end up double-posting.

Definitely do the Quize quizzes. You can place up to four ads on each question page. Plus, enable the Right / Wrong pages after they answer. That generates even more ads viewed. Try the quiz out yourself for sure, to make sure it doesn't look too obnoxious. When I placed four ads on each question, it was really bad. Generated some negative email feedback from users. I now show two ads per question. I keep my quizzes to 20 questions each so they don't take too long.

Keep at it bro!

Happy to see your journey, I will be following it and sharing some experience if you are interested cheers.
Thanks bro, will definitely take you up on that offer one of these days :)

Week 1 Update:
mainsite week1.png
Don't really have much to show in terms of pageviews because I still have none. Impressions went up a bit.

Added 2 posts
Total website word count: 15,600

Article 1 - 1100 words. Position 11 on SERPS. On a small topic in my niche that google auto suggested when I typed it in so I assume it has some sort of search volume. It is a topic that is argued over and over in the FB groups for my niche so I am hoping instead of just arguing on FB some people go and google it. Top rank spots don't address the topic too well so hopefully it rises in ranking.

Article 2 - 1000 words. Position 8 on SERPS. Another small topic that was auto suggested by google when I was just spitting out some ideas. Page 1 first day. Top spots don't address the exact issue that I am so hopefully it rises.

It was so hard finding time to write this week. This post helped keep me accountable. Finding stuff to write about is easy because I know this niche 100% but just finding the time is hard.

The ranks for my articles are in good positions already, one was posted yesterday and the other today. These SERP ranks are if I type in the exact query that my title is about. If I alter it a bit they rank lower a bit. Not really sure how this keyword thing words since income school says it's about user intent now and not exactly keywords.

Income school also says to post every single day to get momentum. I can't do that with my schedule. Hopefully that's not that big of a factor as they make it seem. Also they say 1500 word count minimum but I exhausted the topics in 1000 words and they are ranking well already so I guess that depends.

Decided to leave my other 2 websites alone for now until I build this one up more. They can sit in the google soup and hopefully age well lol My main site is starting to look more like a real website with more articles for people to choose from when they eventually come. I am working hard to create content but maybe I should really make some time to fill in the about me page because now it has default Latin Lorem Ipsem writing and I hope that doesn't affect my ranking lol

This "ghost town" phase is gonna be a bit of a hump to get through. I keep checking my pageviews and it keeps saying ZERO lol but I'll trust the process for now. Got Income School videos and files for free here on BHW so may look at that a bit more and see if I can learn something new. Kind of just watched 3 or 4 videos and just wanted to begin writing lol

Also, one thing I don't understand. If I have 7 clicks why don't I have pageviews? Does anyone have insight on this? I'm starting to think my google analytics code is messed up on the site but if it was google analytics wouldn't even open and would make me verify the problem so that's probably not it.

Week 2 Update

So this week I wrote 2 more articles as was part of the goal.

Article 1 - 1,000 words
Article 2 - 1,200 words
Total website word count - 17,800

I am happy with my impressions and average position going up from 65.8 to 61.8 in search console. Also impressions from 334 to 523. I am assuming 2% click through rate is the average or is it a bad CTR? Anyone have insight on this?
main site sept. 20 stats.png

I am now working on a Pillar post. I'm 1650 words in so far and aiming for 3500-4000 words. For next week this may be the only post that I write since usually I write 2000 words and this would be more than that in 1 single article.

I am a bit ahead of the game for next week since this week I had more free time. I want to make it a good one. Income school says to mix up your content and not just do response posts. Even though my pillar may not rank they say Google should see you writing that kind of pillar content to give you authority. They seem like a pair of nice trustworthy dudes, they wouldn't lie to me right? It seems logical also, so I am going for it.

Saw a post on journey section by @blackbeans which really caught my eye! Will try the same in my niche as far as content research goes. In my niche there are so many heavy hitters that write 300-500 word articles and rank for them. Why not just copy their research and make my articles much better and more detailed.

Also I have been thinking, I followed smartpassiveincome.com guy long ago when all I did was learn and not act. He gave away so many free tutorials and other things. It made me feel like I was getting value from him and made me a fan. I want to do the same thing on my site. This pillar post I am working on should be a nice free resource for people and I will make more content like this.

Not much social media marketing work done. Just making content and letting it sit in sandbox of google. Can't take on too many things at once but definitely want to attack pinterest and other forms of social media with some heavy marketing once I have a good 30 posts. I will NOT allow myself to do that now however. I always chase shiny objects and get distracted. This simple goal of 2 posts per week is working for me and I will stick to it.

QUESTION
My search console shows 11 clicks. My google analytics shows no organic page views. These clicks on search console must be organic as I do no social media marketing. Anyone have any insight on why these 2 don't match up? Do clicks not mean page views?

Some are my old tests from when I went to school 15 years ago. Some are from friends in my same field.

whay best WP plugin for quizzes. I use elementor and I have bought two pro widgets but none offer quizzes

I write 2 articles per week or 1 pillar article. It depends which days I am free during the week which is random so no daily goals, just weekly.

This week I had extra free time so I'm already 1650 words done with next weeks goal.

Income school says pillar content is 3500+ words. I'm going by their definition. With 5000 I could make a nice ebook probably.

Week 3 Update

Another 2 articles written but one was HUGE

Article 1: 4,200 words
Article 2: 1,000 words
Total website word count now: 23,000
Total article count: 15

Search Console Stats:
main site sept. 27.png
Average position went down and CTR went up but the impressions and clicks didn't go up high based on percentage compared from week 1 to week 2.

Analytics Stats:
The good news - I finally fixed analytics by downloading google site kit plugin and connecting to another email. I guess I didn't enter the code properly the first time. And I got 4 VIEWS!
The bad news - The 4 views are probably mine lol but anyway at least it is counting properly now. Gotta put my IP on it to not count myself.

Notable lessons learned:

Lesson #1:

I wanted a table of contents for my pillar post because it is huge at 4,200 words so I wanted it to be organized. I wan't to minimize my use of plugins however. So I googled "how to make table of contents in WP without plugin" and found a guide on how to do it. Not sure if I can post links but yea if anyone wants it let me know, its pretty easy to find anyway. I want to minimize my use of plugins that way my site can be faster and less chance for a plugin to crash my site lol

Lesson #2:
I watched an income school Youtube video which was like "27 mistakes new bloggers make" or something like that and one was to not backup your website. That got me scared and they have a point, would suck to lose all my work. Immediately I got the free version of updraft and will backup my site anytime I post a new article.May pay for it eventually but I didn't have enough time to research the benefits. All I need it to do is backup and it is doing that so that's fine for me for now.

Article 1 - This was a pillar post. 5 custom tables. 2 custom photos. Featured image from Canva which I find to be really useful for photos and I am fortunate enough that the subscription is negligible to me so I keep it. As soon as I posted this one and entered the link on search console it was indexed. Not only that it was RANK 9!! Sadly the next day it dropped to rank 11 and now it is nowhere to be found lol. It is a quality article so hopefully it rises again. I checked rank and didn't believe it was rank 9 instantly so I called a friend in another location and asked him to check and yea it was, for a few hours at least lol. Not sure why it was so high and now so low but it is all part of the learning process I guess. I feel like this may happen if google assumes it is good content because of the high word count then they realize it is crap? I am hoping not because I don't think it is crap with all the custom images and tables and research I did so I will wait and see how this one goes.

Article 2 - This was a standard post based on my keyword research which I'm not even sure is all that good but it is based on the income school method using alphabet soup and they fit their criteria so hopefully the articles rank.

It is starting to look like a real website now with 23k words. This consistent effort thing is good. It is not as easy as when you just start and are all motivated. There are dips in motivation of course but I am going to do 2 articles a week whether I feel happy or sad or mad or whatever. Atleast until 30 articles then I will see where it is benefitial to redirect my attention to on my site. Maybe the quizzes. But If it is quality content it will sit there online forever and I can only build on it so every article is a piece to the puzzle and thats a nice way to think about it to get some motivation.

Let me know if you got any tips or comments.

Week 4 update

Article 1
: ONLY 600 words. I picked a topic that didn't need more than 600 words and I sort of exhausted it with that. I rank in 3 variations of the query in spot 5 and 6. The number one spot has about 200 words only but it is a page with 5000 words because it is an answer compilation site in which different people answer the same question 100 times and it just posts all the answers.

Article 2: 1600 words. Surprised this one didn't rank AT ALL. Like it's indexed but not showing up anywhere. I am starting to think it's because I took a product image straight from amazon without editing it so that google can't recognize I "stole" it. It's a product image on Amazon so I'm sure its used all over but It's all I could think of that may be the issue. Keyword seemed super easy, nobody nailed the answer on the head or even targets it exactly but it doesn't rank. Will see how this article progresses but this is a good lesson for me on how a 600 word article can easily outrank a 1600 word article lol

Total Word Count: 25,200
Total Article Count: 17

Other Work Done
Quizzes made: 1 quiz 25 questions. I used an old quiz I used to use to study for work and put it up.
Deleted premium quiz page: this page was just blank because I didn't set up paid quizzes yet and only have 1 free quiz. Figured empty pages may make for a bad user experience and look bad to google so I'll just put it back when I have them ready.

Coming soon:
Youtube Videos
- I looked at some youtube videos in my niche and they are awful with a decent amount of views. Figure I can compete easily. The existing videos are reviews of products where they just show stock photos of the items and write text about it straight from amazon details on the product. I actually have the products so I can do better.

Search Console Stats:
main site search week 4.png
Analytics Stats:

I think the analytics stats are mostly visits just from me lol this week will be a challenge to get 2 articles in since I am travelling but lets see what I can do.
