Hi All,

Long time lurker, first time poster really. I’ve read these forums on and off for a while and signed up a while back but never really did anything. I now have learnt some things which I want to put into practice and see if I can get to £35 / day, which will be a nice grand a month.

My plan is two fold.

1) Make money through Instagram shoutouts on 4 accounts I have.
2) Make money via Merch by Amazon.

Instagram:

I will make this money by shoutouts, good old fashioned shout outs. I’ll call them features. The accounts I have as follows are:

- Photography nice: 7k followers.
- Niche babes account: 25k followers. There are businesses operating in this niche.
- Music niche: 6.5k followers. Passionate fan base – will use this for my merch.
- Supercars niche: 12k followers. Random mish mash of cars, not exactly a specific niche. I might convert this into an account and solely use this for promoting my merch shirts.

I’m thinking $10 USD a shoutout / feature. Which is about £6.

Merch By Amazon:

I’ve had an account for a while and am tier 10 which means I can upload a maximum of 10 shirts live. Currently I have 6 shirts live.

I took a look at CPA but I don’t appear to have the right traffic for offers which get you $0.81 a time. I just don’t really get CPA at the moment. I’ll still be looking into it though.

Progress so far:

Instagram accounts are set up for offering features.
I have my upload slots filled (via drafts) in MBA (Merch By Amazon)

Earnings yesterday: £1.70. Sold a t-shirt. I have now raised the price on that shirt for a bigger royalty the next time it sells.

Plan for today and tomorrow: Get a site up around my t-shirts so I can put the link in one of my instagram accounts.

I'll share updates regularly and what I learn I will feedback.

I still have so much to learn.

Good Luck, Are you designing your shirt by yourself? How are you doing keyword research?

Thanks! Hopefully I'll learn so much from this aswell that I can do greater things in the IM world.

Good Luck, Are you designing your shirt by yourself? How are you doing keyword research?

Yeah they are all being designed by me. I know how to use photoshop and have a subscription. They are pretty basic at the moment though, I could still do with learning more around design. In all honesty I just put them together in like 10 minutes. At this stage I don't want to be shelling out to people for designs when I don't know much about keywords on MBA. As for keyword research: I am sticking to one niche at the moment, music. I have an interest in it and I want to promote them through my niche instagram account I have too. When I get more slots I'll probably branch out into all them original dabbing unicorns with Trump hair cuts and then I'll have to wonder just what keywords will attract people to my dab army haha.

Don't use keywords like "trump"
Always check trademarks at http://uspto.gov
When you're in tier 10-100, they are usually manual checks. After that, it would be system checked so you just need to be careful to that point.
Good luck!

Thanks for the good luck messages everyone. Got someone interested in a feature at the moment, she best follow through lol.

Oh I was joking about the Trump thing, I'm not that daft. Yeah I hear the keywords get picked up automatically and then it sits in review. Have just checked out and book marked uspto - thanks!

First update.... not so good. Was hit with something which currently reduces my chances of making money. I'll explain in a minute. So, I built a one page website which detailed how instagram users could get their shoutout and where to pay it, paypal. It looked OK for the quick job. I sent it out to a couple of interested people and also put it on my big 25k babes instagram account as their are business users in there who occasionally want shout outs.

Babes account deleted! I log into facebook an hour ago and it has gone. A 25k account gone. Had it for 6 months. I can't find the screen to appeal it on the app so I'm looking into other ways to get it back. Gutted. That niche had some targeted business users who wanted shoutouts. I thought that would make up half of this journeys income.

What am I going to do? Make a new account right away. Get back to it and this time not link the website in the bio, which is crazy really as I have a personal account with a link in the bio.

Earnings yesterday: £0. $0.

Yesterday had me still bummed out over losing the 25k babes account. So, here is what I am doing. I created another account and will get it warmed up until I start to let it gain traction. However, it will be a while before it reaches the heights of the last one. I may decide to use this instagram account solely for my merch by amazon shirts and nothing else. Therefore, if someone was to follow that page then they would be very targeted.

I am currently changing my car account to a babe account. It's got 12k followers and having looked at the DM's I have received in the past, none of them are looking for shoutouts or show signs of business use. As the demographic is mostly cars I would expect them to be male, so let's see where this goes. Fingers crossed I can get that back to where the other account was, but the engagement might not be as strong.

I also created a spreadsheet to track earnings in £ sterling and a rough conversion to $ USD.

Earnings yesterday: £0. $0. The shoutout prospects never came to fruition on the photography account.

Some success yesterday! Sold a shoutout for a measly $10 which is about £7.
The car account has been switched to a babe account and engagement is just as good as it was as a car account haha. I'll grow that more and once I see the businesses in that niche popping up then I'll start pushing the shoutouts / features.

Merch: I have uploaded all 10 shirts now and have a further 20 or so in draft. Haven't sold one since the start of the journey.

Earnings yesterday: $10. £7. Shoutout sold.

Another bit of success yesterday. Sold a shoutout / feature for $10 which is about £7.

I've been receiving quite a few unfollowers from my supercar niche account which I converted to a babes account. A few messages asking why they have followed me? To be fair, I can't exactly tell them I switched it to this new niche cos I'm about to monetize it haha. I've noticed engagement on my new posts but it clearly isn't as much as before. I thought all the males who followed this supercar account would appreciate it but it appears not.

Maybe I have done something wrong. Maybe I should have kept it as a supercar account and tried monetizing it another way. Error?

Merch By Amazon? Nothing. In the facebook groups people are complaining that not all 2018 shirts are selling well, some not at all. So maybe that makes me a feel a bit better, or my designs are shit.

EARNINGS YESTERDAY: $10. £7. Sold a shoutout / feature.

I like being accountable in this journey.

Yesterday was a complete dud. No shoutouts sold and certainly no T-Shirts sold. Supposedly some Amazon Merch employee has said that they are aware people are having issues with some of their listings not being found and speculation it is part of a wider problem. I don't know how true this is but it would make sense. I have 10 shirts uploaded and I can only find 3 of them.... funnily enough they were the first 3 I put up when I first got accepted. Then I left it for a while until now. Interesting.

EARNINGS YESTERDAY: $0. To be clear.... that is also £0.

PLAN: I've created an etsy store and synced it with printful. Going to put my shirts on there and link the etsy store to my niche account where I am targeting shirt sales. Let's see how this goes!

HOW DO I GET PEOPLE TO REQUEST SHOUTOUTS: I'm getting a few PM's about this. All I do is put up in my bio a comment saying to DM me for a feature (shoutout) and that currently there is 50% off. I also have a story post which is basically just text saying the same thing and a tad more. I then put this story post into one of the highlighted posts within the app. I then just wait for people to contact me. Then I reply and send them the link to the one page site I built which has more info, price and paypal address. Simple, but people still back out when they have to pay.

I completely and utterly understand where you are at.

Don't be afraid to just get up and run, screaming ... That is OK, too, just make sure you have somewhere to run screaming to.

God luck fella.

Thanks for the support. It's early days so I'm going to learn what I can.

Also, I won't be revealing the accounts where I am selling the shoutouts. The niches are above.
