    Hi,

I've been learning about IM for 5-6 years on and off. Don't think anyone really cares about my personal background and life circumstances so I won't go into that. I already have a site that's ranking since a couple of years back, it's not making much money though, just a little more than break-even. So I created another site a few months ago, that looked like it would be a breeze to rank, but this was not the case, and I will have to put that project on hold for a while (don't want to trash it yet because I invested a huge amount of time into it). All in all, I've spent a lot of time these past years reading, and testing different ways to make money online. So far I've been unsuccessful, but I've learned so much from every one of these projects. Now I feel it's time to apply this to a project that I hope will actually earn me some money. I was thinking about applying for the giveaway that was announced by Brad100 and Ramanan, since that's the kind of site I'm aiming for, but decided I would like to get started right away instead.

I will be doing an amazon affiliate site, and keep expanding it until I reach my goals (never tried amazon before, just adsense and clickbank). Since keyword research usually takes a lot of time for me and I find it tedious, I ordered some from the service Elite Keywords, here on BHW. I will be setting up the domain and doing SEO myself, but I'm probably going to outsource most of the content writing because that really drains my motivation. So I know there's going to be a lot of work involved initially, but eventually I hope to make this a passive stream of income.

    Goals:
    30$/month
    60$/month
    90$/month
    150$/month
    210$/month
    300$/month
    450$/month
    600$/month
    900$/month

TLDR; Starting an amazon affiliate site, want to make money .

Good luck with your journey. IMHO affiliate income is very volatile. I would suggest setting monthly goals rather than daily. It's easier to compare and draw conclusions.

So I guess this thread is off to a pretty slow start, since I ordered the keywords just before the weekend, but was told that they will be ready by monday, which is even faster than I expected.

So today I've just been going through and trying to find some good expired domains that can be used for backlinking. Yesterday I searched around for a good content writing service that I can outsource to. The coming days will probably just consist of me continuing to browse through expired domains and seeing if I find anything good. Hopefully I can receive the keywords by monday and get started with everything then.

I received my keywords yesterday, and found some products to promote with the main one. Other than that I've been finding a few good expired domains that I'll use for link building to the site. I've also registered a couple of aged web2.0s with an existing link profile that will be used for the same purpose. Now I've started searching for an expired domain to be used as money site, so it needs to be closely related to the topic. If I'm not able to find one, I'll probably just go with a fresh and brandable domain.

I'm already facing two issues that I've been trying to figure out since yesterday, and I think I'm starting to understand it a little bit better now:

    1. How to integrate long tail keywords into the content and where to target them.

I've read some of the other journey threads on here and they seem to handle this differently from each other. But the strategy I've decided to go with is publishing a new article for every main- and long tail-keyword that has at least a decent amount of monthly searches, and then insert some closely connected but lesser searched ones into that text as well, mainly for LSI purposes. All of these articles will be comparisons of different products that matches their respective keywords. Then I will have a review article for each product that will be a kind of filler/fluff content. I'm still a bit confused about this though, and would like to specifically target several long tail keywords per article as well, but will look more into this later as I find it difficult to achieve without it looking like keyword stuffing right now.

Another thing I noticed was that some sites are ranking very well for buyer keywords that are only slight variations of the main keyword, but they are nowhere to be seen in the SERPs for the main keyword. So this made me wonder if using long tail variations could steal ranking power from the articles main keyword. For example:

    Main keyword: bottle openers
Buyer keywords: best bottle openers, bottle opener reviews

If the article was written to target "bottle openers" but using the title "The Best Bottle Openers 2015", would this not rank as well for just "bottle openers" as the title "Bottle Openers 2015"?

That's a lot of bottle openers, made me thirsty :)

    2. Using a silo structure that funnels link juice in an efficient manner.

At first I was thinking of making the site a bit broader, which would have required a deeper silo structure :

broad subject dot com/category/product comparisons/specific product review

But I thought this would make the money pages to far away from the site root, and I would have to both start siloing from /category/ and send my backlinks there. Building backlinks to the homepage would not provide enough juice to the deeper inner pages, and the way I see it, it's better to use a silo structure with 3 levels than 4. So I'll probably go with:

    category dot com/product comparisons/product review

But I haven't completely decided on this yet, it depends if I find an expired domain that is brandable or if I register a fresh domain that is more targeted. The internal linking will look like this level1 -> level2 -> level3 -> level1 and so on.

I'll be outsourcing the content writing of an article for my main keyword today and try to do some writing myself as well. I will also read up a bit more on how to handle these obstacles I described above.

This last week I've had to take it a bit easy due to personal health issues, hence the lack of updates. But I've found a good expired, brandable domain that I decided to use as a money site. It's registered now and I'm just waiting for it to propagate completely. I've also found 20 or so decent and niche related expired domains that I'll use as a PBN. I've also ordered and received my main article, as well as some review articles that will be used as filler content to target long tail, very low search volume keywords. I even wrote a few articles myself. On top of that, I've also done some additional keyword research and found a few good ones. Lastly I found some aged web2.0s that I registered and have started updating with content that will be used for linking purposes later on.

So most of the ground work is done now, except setting up the actual website and making it look good. I was looking at elegant themes and will get their package later on, but right now I can't afford that, so I'll go with a free theme to start off with, and make sure that I can actually rank the site before investing in a better looking theme for conversions.

These last days I have been getting a few more domains to be used in the PBN. I've posted 3 articles on my money site now, including the one that's targeting my main KW. Wanted to make sure that the domain would get indexed (since it was an expired domain) before I started posting the quality articles. I've got the filler review articles ready to post as well, and will be publishing about 1 per day.

I think I'll just wait a couple of days before starting to build links as well :) My next obstacle seem to be formatting the money articles so that they look nice with affiliate links and pictures.

I've got 16 sites in my PBN so far, but planning on making it 20 to start with for this site. Most of the ones I have was used to rank another site and I didn't think very far when building them, so I'll need to repurpose them to make the content more general and less niche specific. I'm grabbing a few new ones that are niche specific to this amazon site though.

I made one big mistake these last few weeks regarding PBN domains. I found some really good ones and wrote them down to register later, but then when it was time to get them, someone else had already bought them. Don't know if it was bad luck, since some of the domains had been dropped for several years, and I was just one day late. Won't wait like that again :)

Today I posted another article, tweaked some of the existing ones, set up a new PBN site and scheduled a post on it. I've also been looking at expired domains trying to find something good for about 7 hours. Getting a bit tired, so going to take a break now, maybe I'll look into additional articles later on tonight.

Posted another article on the site today, been searching for additional PBN domains as well. Also submitted the site to a niche specific directory.

Thanks guys! Posted another article today, browsed through PBN domains and registered two that are niche specific to this site. Also written another article, improved my silo structure a bit and edited urls to avoid over-optimization.

Been looking at easier ways to manage PBN hosting, and might sign up for either easy blog networks (has a BST here) or pazhosting, but will probably go with the former because it seems pretty easy to setup and maintain. It's been a pain keeping check with excel spreadsheets (even though I don't have that many domains).

I realized today that I need to rethink my criteria for PBN domains, as I've been trying to go with only those that has 10+ high value links, but after going through many thousands of domains, I think it's better to just go with the ones that shows good stats and have some links. Everyone says that majestic and moz stats doesn't matter, only links. I believe this is true when some links are not being indexed by their crawlers and therefore could add extra value that is not shown, but right now I'll mainly try to grab the ones with good majestic stats. Right now my criteria for picking domains this way is:

10+ links (at least 5 decent ones, then the rest can come from inner pages without much value)
CF should not be a lot greater than TF
TF is more than 15 (preferably 20+)
Checking most valuable backlinks to see that they're legit and on decent pages
    No spammy anchor text
    No weird stuff in archive
TLDs that are not too expensive

Will probably change this as I go along, but going to stick with this to not waste too much time looking for domains, as there are a lot of other things that needs to be done as well :)

Today I've posted a bit on some of the web2.0s to prepare them for a link article. Another article have been posted to the money site, and I wrote an additional one and posted it on a pbn site. The thing with this one is that I've previously used this pbn site with articles in my native language, so I wrote the new one like that as well, but used a generic anchor that is the same in english as well. My concern with this is that I want this money site to rank for english search terms, but I guess one or two links like this won't make much of a difference that way and still help to build authority.

Another issue I'm thinking about is the linking to other levels of the silo than the root. Right now I've created the silo starting at my domain root, but it's actually the second silo level that I want to rank, so that's where I'm sending the links. I guess that should be fine, but I'm thinking of excluding the root domain from the silo, and just do one with two levels instead, like this:

current silo lvl 2 -> current silo lvl 3 -> current silo lvl 2 loop

    instead of:

domain root -> current silo lvl 2 -> current silo lvl 3 -> domain root loop

Then I think the link juice would be better maintained in the pages that I want ranking, but the root domain would not be getting much of it, so that might look weird.

Last thing today I've been contemplating is whether to change my pages to posts. I've mainly been using pages for most of my sites, and this one is no exception, because I find it a bit more difficult to organize posts into menu items and sub-pages. But the theme I'm currently using seems to be more optimized towards using posts, so I might look into that a bit more. Right now I think I'll use posts for a certain part of the page, but have the most important articles remain as pages.

Hey man, good luck with your project.

Regarding the PBN, make sure you leave no footprints. I believe you have that covered, but it includes different IPs for each domains, no google analytics or webmaster tools, no same infos in the resgistrant etc etc. It's really easy to get caught and then your whole PBN is fucked.
