Hello everyone, this is my first post here. I've been lurking around for a while and I finally decided to start on something. A few months ago, I saw some videos on affiliate marketing, but I never did anything. I stumbled across meathead1234's recent post, and I decided I should try it out.

I wanted to create this thread to motivate me and keep me accountable. In the past, I had some decent success selling on Amazon, however the capital requirements were just too much for me to keep pursuing it. With the increased competition, I could hardly find any decent selling products that were able to be purchased at wholesale and still make a decent profit. While I was grossing 10k+ per month, I found it extremely difficult to actually take any money out for myself. I wanted to find something else that I could do that wouldn't require putting all of the profits back in the business in order for it to grow. I believe that affiliate marketing may be the solution?

Anyways, hopefully some of you may be able to give some advice. I know that this isn't a way to get rich overnight, however, I would really like to start to see some decent income within a couple months.. I haven't been able to find a way to generate income since I quit selling on Amazon, so I want to get something started as soon as possible.

So far, I have done some niche research and I found something to target. I'm not really sure if it's the best thing to go after, however I feel like if I don't start on something, I'll just waste so much time trying to look for a niche.

The main keyword I'm targeting has about 4k monthly searches with low competition.

I've purchased the domain, hosting, and I've picked a theme. The domain is basically (keyword).net. I'm not sure if this is good for SEO purposes or if domains even matter.

Now, I'm currently working on creating content for the site. Unfortunately, I'm not the best at writing articles, so this is going to be the hardest part for me. Hopefully in the future, once I have everything down and I've generated some income, I'll be able to outsource this part, or I'll just have to get good at it.

I'll try to update this as often as I can. If anyone has any tips or suggestions, please let me know. This is my first time doing anything like this, so I pretty much have no idea what I'm doing.

Good luck. The method is solid and after being in Amazon Affiliates for 4-5 years, I've even put it into practice with a VA's help :)

    Thank you everyone. :)

So, basically, I'm stuck at the content creation part. I'm not sure if it's the niche I picked and there's not really much to write about, or if it's just me. I would really like to get started in this niche before starting something else though. Any suggestions? Really going to try to make some decent progress tomorrow.

As an ex-copywriter I know the feeling but now as an affiliate marketer my advice is to just write stuff. If its boring and you're selling products then good imagery and price are the only other factors that people care about. I mean a decent image or video of the product.

Just write for the bots, SEO content in other words. I'm writing 1-2k words of review style content and filler blog posts for my amazon sites and they ra k really quickly. None of it is worth reading by a human but it is handwritten and unique.

The longer the content the longer dwell time/less bounce and people just think "ah fuck it, I'll buy one instead of reading this".

Okay, so I think I need to go back and research some new keywords/niche. I feel like I picked way too narrow of a niche.

I feel like it would be better to pick a broader niche and targeting the small keywords instead of just trying to make a whole site off of 1 small keyword. For example...

    Site Niche - Basketball
    Targeting - Keyword1, Keyword2, Keyword3, etc

    Instead of

    Site Niche - Keyword1

Any thoughts on this? I believe this is the method described in meathead's post. Are we trying to rank for NICHES or for KEYWORDS?

My 2 cents is pick a broader category and let your content target keywords.

Just some ideas that I have seen ranked: XXXX Review, Best XXXX 2016, Best XXXX, Buy XXXX etc....
When you discuss the product, depending on competition, you can rank for the keywords then. So if you are talking baseball, as in your example, you might be able to rank for a keyword like "Wilson Model Number XYZ Catchers Mitt" while you are trying to rank for catchers mitt and even baseball equipment later. This way you can trickle in a little traffic and grow the rankings from there.

I have a narrow niches and trust me, there are enough articles for all them. If you can write up to 10k word, then it is enough in my opinion. After which you will get more ideas what to write on.

Make sure to collect emails with everything you do, even if you don't convert the visitor right away you may always get them later with an email newsletter.

    Good luck!

Yeah, I've thought about this. I honestly feel like this would be way easier to do with a larger site targeting several different keywords as opposed to a micro niche site targeting one small thing. Also, would have an easier time building a social following.

I'm honestly not sure. I already had an affiliate account made and I may have used an old site that I created just to get approved. Did you try signing up for the affiliate program yet?

As a fellow newbie that got approved recently, I suggest first get the domain and create the website. Maybe put something on it, one article is enough, and then apply for Amazon. What I did was I just installed wordpress, my theme with a demo for it, and I submitted the blank site with the demo. Didn't have any problems.

The application is pretty straightforward, but you need to know what your niche is and what you'll be promoting, though you can easily change that info later if you need to. You also need to fill in the tax form, which is like several steps wizard, but it can be done in 5-10 minutes max, and if you are out of USA is even easier to fill, since many of the steps are being skipped.
