February Summary

Goal: $1000
Earnings: $1125
Spent: $62

I haven't banked anything in the last 9 days, but March is here and aiming to hit $2000 this month so hopefully deals will start flowing. I have some opportunities:

- Referral from trainer agreed to pay $250 DP this week.
- Lady client agreed to pay before making the 2nd mock-up. Skype call scheduled tomorrow to talk details.
- New prospect on twitter who wants a store.

Nothing is certain yet but at least the referral seems solid.

This month I plan to search for more VAs and start spending more. If I close 1k deals, I'll try to outsource the design.
Dude, just charge 10x what you did in Feb. Sell them the whole package; site, seo packages, paid traffic ads and everything else.

$250 for a site? Try $2500 with site, seo packs, paid traffic, landing pages and much more man.

Just 4 clients @ $2500 and you are there

how do you manage the content side of thing?

They give me some content usually and I go from there. I do it myself if necessary. Didn't hire copywriter or anything, not a lot of writing needed.

for small price project would you recommend if we just totally transfer the responsibilities to the client

It doesn't matter if the project is small or big, gotta do what the client wants, and usually they'll bring input regardless of your initiative.

It's in the initial plan but I don't have the full package yet, takes time to build. I can do 10k per month when I can offer monthly ppc packages for sure. Will get there, no worries. If you have an agency, how long till you got to 10k per month? Any tips?

I dont have an agency as ive never been a fan of working for someone else's projects. Though, i work on my stuff and usually end up selling the sites for around 20x monthly profit

Updates:

- Laravel client replied with 4k final offer. I'll try to do it myself if I don't find someone for the job (the agency doesn't want to do it at this price).
- Scheduled skype call for tomorrow with new twitter client (for an NGO website).
- Looking to hire a part time designer locally, the one from upwork isn't responding atm.

I have a friend who does that, it's definitely fun and no annoying clients, though I'm used to working with people. Will try it out sometime but as a hobby.

You will be surprised that its basically the same thing but without annoying clients :D

Updates:

- Skype call with NGO client went OK. Contract pushed, waiting for payment. This is a $600 job and will update once they send DP. Employee can do this alone, I'm happy to test him :)
- In talks with other local agencies and freelancers for the laravel project. Nothing solid yet.
- Lady client came back, wants a different website.

If I wanted to follow in your footsteps, where would I learn the essentials of web design? I know there are a lot of paid/free online courses some even certified from major universities. I'm essentially looking to build myself a curriculum of everything I need to know to be successful in IM. Bonus is I love to learn. I would appreciate any recommendations.

I think the best skill to learn is sales. That will help you get clients in any business, will help you understand any type of marketing on a deeper level. You could get a part-time sales job and experiment with stuff until you figure out something that works. Web design is not essential in IM, you can always outsource. Learn it only if you love it. No courses in particular, just build projects and learn along the way.

You will be surprised that its basically the same thing but without annoying clients

I guess under $100K per year it could be the same thing, but for bigger revenues and longer term, an agency has more potential for growth and scale.

can you show exact process how you get clients that pay $300-500 per website? I am doing this too but most people aren't willing to spend more than $60

Updates:

- Got the first lead with the reddit method (before you ask what the method is, please search this thread and you'll find it).
- No payment from the NGO people yet.
- Nothing yet with laravel project.
- Employee is working decently so far, I feel relieved.

If you read the thread you can find the exact methods I used, stats, how many emails I sent, scheduling calls etc etc. It's basically a sales job. Are you good at sales? Can you negotiate? Avoid $60 clients and find people who pay more, but you have to work for it.

If most agencies and freelancers dont want to take the Laravel project, IMO would leave it.

quick question: When are the US clients active? I am from India so I can't contact them during day. Can you tell me when should I contact them? Like between 8AM-12PM USA time?

Wonderful idea. You can also outsource at the few freelance sites. I am saying so because when you have multiple sites to build with limited time. You will need who will do it at cheap price.

Updates:

- Communication is slow with the store guy. Project going slower.
- Lady client agrees with $1k again, let's see if she pays.
- Reddit client wants a newsletter design.

Makes sense since they would know better but I like the challenge (laravel is not that hard, I'm just not used to it) and it's $4000 after all, can't leave that.

I email them at 9 AM during the week and in the weekends best open rates I had Sunday evening from 7 PM onward. I tested different hours, earlier than 9 didn't work for me and in the evening I got lower open rates than in the morning. Saturday I don't contact them unless we scheduled something.

March Goal: $2000
Earned so far: $1800
Spent: ~$360

- Found a laravel developer (seems solid, referred by friend) and cashed $500 from the client. Final payment structure is $500 per week for 3 weeks and at the end of the 4th week we get the rest of the money (remainder to 4k). Project starts on Monday and client wants 1 conference call per week with him, dev and me.
- Working on revisions for the 1k project.
- Store guy finally showed up but he wants more products. Sent us new content.
- Reddit guy and NGO client are unresponsive.
- Lady client hasn't paid yet.
- Discussing with 5 new prospects (3 from twitter, 1 from fb, 1 from email).

Been pretty busy, started the laravel project and doing revisions for both the 1k project and the store. No new money yet. Hope to cash in before month's end, need just $200 to reach the target.
