I've decided to take the next big step in my IM career and start working on an authority website (long-term project) of the eyecare niche (I don't care about revealing the niche... it's already pretty saturated and does not convert well, but I have an interest in it).

    Basic principle:
I will write articles focusing on common disorders and their treatments and then advertise whichever products I can get commission from. This could be Amazon affiliate or any other.

I will think about monetisation later, as first of all I have to focus on getting CONTENT. I have already picked out a very brandable domain name (although it does not have keyword in it). I have done a lot of keyword research and found some really nice long-tail keywords which I will write articles about. Hopefully I will be able to rank from these.

    Things to do:

    1. Make a nice-looking logo... I will do this myself as I'm too poor to afford a professional :)
    2. Write as many articles (500-1000 words each) focusing on long-tail keywords over the next couple of days as I can. I will either be a.)focusing on a particular product and writing a review for it b.) focusing on a particular disorder and recommending products as treatments c.) Just writing an article about a well-searched eyecare-related keyword, for example my advice for eyecare, eye exercises etc. I know it would be preferable to hire a copywriter, but I'm a pharmacy student so I think I'm capable of writing on this particular niche to at least a decent quality. I will try to have my articles written to about 0.5% keyword density. Maybe each article will have multiple keywords to enhance my SEO (e.g. kw1, kw2 etc.)

Problems I have and will have to get over through this journey:

    1. Backlinking. I have absolutely no clue about how backlinking is done, and I obviously can't afford someone/a service to do this for me. I can already see this giving me headaches and complications in the future, so I'm just gonna ignore it now while getting my content written... I'm hoping you guys could help me out about this. But yeah, I will think about this AFTER I have written a large portion of my articles.
    2. I'm also a bit of a website SEO noob, but hopefully I will do an okay job and with good backlinking to my articles I sohuld show up on SERPS...
    3. Things like internal links just go way beyond me... noob-alert but is this just a link in one of my articles pointing to another article of mine as anchor text for example?
    4. What people call "Back-up articles" for my main articles, again I don't understand how this works and it's very complicated. I've read someone recommending 20+ backup articles to every article!!! That sounds insane!
    5. Tbh maybe I'm hoping I can JV with someone once I have quality content up to do this stuff for me? :/

Where I'll get my traffic from:

    1. SEO/SERPs
    2. YouTube (I have good experience in YT marketing)
    3. Guest blogs?
    4. People linking to/sharing my website because of awesome content? ;p

    Email-list(sub-project)

    1. I am currently working on an email list around the same niche. I have already made an awesome looking squeeze page and I hope to promote ClickBank products to people that subscribe to this email list. I have ordered a fiverr gig to my email list today and I'll see if that brings in opt-ins. If not I will abandon the email list temporarily and I hope I will eventually be able to drive opt-ins on autopilot from my website...maybe months down the line ;p.

    Targets of my journey:
    • 5$ total revenue[]
    • 10$ total revenue []
    • 25$ total revenue []
    • 50$ total revenue []
    • 100$ total revenue []
    • 200$ total revenue []
    • 500$ total revenue []
    • 1000$ total revenue []
    • Holiday in Hawaii for the rest of my days[] (jk)

Starting money: Around 100$ (will only spend money if I absolutely need it... I'm poor)

    My Vision for the future
I might or might not be successful with this journey - chances are that, due to my lack of experience, I will experience failure after failure. But right now I am determined not to give up. The sky is the limit and I dream of owning a professional online healthcare database/store, not only for the eyecare niche but a network of healthcare niche's under the same brand. This has a lot to do with my future career.

Any suggestions are very, very welcome :) I really need your help for this journey and I hope that (like me) many people will learn from this journey! :)

    Wish me luck everybody!

It's good to see you've chosen a niche that you're knowledgeable in. That'll certainly you create great content.

as regards backlinks you are on the right lines for sure. Maybe you can leverage some contacts through your college and try to get people from an education background to link to you - if your content is really great then they will be happy to do so.

Best of luck in your journey anyhow

Wow, thank you very much for the quick response! I love the idea of contacting people from college, that never even crossed my mind. I'm sure that could bring me several high quality backlinks when I have the site up and running :) Thanks given

Creating content would be a breeze if you are interested in the subject. I am at the stage of my journey where I am just writing content. It can get boring at times though.

    Good luck on your journey!

Thanks. I'm sure I'll get very bored of writing the content after some time, but sometimes you've got to force yourself to do things you don't like to be successful :)

I would suggest that you stay away from backlinking if you don't even know how to do it; and just write articles and use social media.

Thanks for the advice. I'm not sure how much traffic I'd be able to get from social media, but that'll definitely be a traffic method to consider. Hopefully, I'll be able to progressively learn about back link strategies throughout this journey.

I'm running a similar journey, so I'll check in time to time.

I'm also doing a saturated niche but I know it well. So it's easy to pump out 10 articles per day, but harder to rank.

Internal links are links within your article that link to your other articles. You should average about 2-4 links per article and also link 1-2 times to a well known site. Vary the anchor text (the text that the link is embedded within).

You say you have YouTube marketing experience. How do you create your videos?

I currently link to relevant videos from random users but I've been thinking about creating my own videos to build backlinks too.

Sounds like a solid plan and its good its on a topic you feel confident writing about. If you can do it I would stay away from the freelance writers at the start. If you want people to really like your site your going to need very high quality content.

Good luck and I look forward to seeing those goals boxes checked off in the future.

Thanks for the input man. What's the point of linking from your articles to well known sites? Does that boost your rankings in any way?

I create my YT videos using camtasia and maybe my own voice overs. I've been doing PPD for a while now and had some success with that, so I'm also hoping to build backlinks from videos :)

Best of luck on your journey also!

Thanks for the support :) Yes I plan on writing the best content I can for low competition keywords, no freelancers!

Yes, it can help rankings because it makes the website more natural and improves the user experience, and Google likes both of those concepts.
