INTRO

Hi! I've got A LOT of free time this month because I just parted away with a business I co-founded and generally have just been waiting for passive income + some projects to push through. So right now I'm wasting an awful amount of time just watching anime or Korean dramas lol.

Quick background: 25 year old dude. Working at home. Into IM since 2012-ish. Did a lot of things from content writing, to client SEO, to reselling SMM, but mostly stuck to Amazon affiliates. I'm not rich, but I do travel to one country once a year.

I've been reading up on a few journeys here and it inspired me to stop lazing around and get back to hustling.

This journey is more like a way for me to hold myself accountable. Plus it feels good to interact with people.

THE PROBLEM

I've got an niche site that I started late 2016 if I remember correctly that got hit with the massive algorithm update this August (the "medic" update as some people call it).

Earnings went down from $600/month down to $100+ this September and possibly less on October.

Here's a traffic screenshot - as you can see, the site took a hit:

THE GOAL

Needless to say, I want to get it back on track and hit $1,000/month. My deadline would be 1st quarter of 2019 - so March at the latest.

Disclaimer: I'm trying out a service on BHW that sends high-converting traffic to my niche site and it's got great ROI. I won't be including earnings from this service. I want my earnings to be purely out of organic reach.

THE SOLUTION

Since this is an algo penalty, this can probably be lifted with the right changes to my site. For example a better silo structure or better content.

For now, this is what I have in mind:

On-Page Optimization: Take a good hard look at the site and see what could be done better. I'm thinking of looking at the following things:
  1. Internal linking
  2. Silo structure
  3. Loading speed
  4. Intent (or does the page actually have what the users are looking for)
  5. Link quality
  6. Link velocity
  7. Content quality
  8. Other technical stuff, like HTTP/HTTPS issues.
I'm probably going to ask for help here from someone who does website audits. I can do this myself, but wants some 2nd opinion on some aspects.

Redirect To A New Domain: I plan to redirect my niche site to an auctioned domain with better links. This will probably solve the link quality issues of my site. I've had good feedback from other people that did this so I might try my hand here as well.

I won't redirect unless I solved all technical issues on the old domain first.

Off-Page SEO: I'm planning to use good ol' PBNs here plus a bit of outreach here so I can completely control what anchor text to use. I'm still looking for a decent PBN provider.

BUDGET

I don't have a budget as of now, but I plan to invest on the following:
  • Freelancer who will implement technical SEO
  • Links
  • (Possibly) Re-write some content
Hopefully, this journey will be interesting for you guys as well and you'll accompany me along the way. :)

good luck to you, we are in the same boat haha.

Thanks mate. Maybe we can put our heads together. :D

Thanks!

Good luck op :)
Btw Korean drama seriously ?

Hey, no judging.lol

Good luck. Wating for your next update

All the best following this thread.

Thanks guys.

On a side note, some people have already PMed me about the freelancers/services I'm planning to hire/use. I'm going to decide on my own. I'm pretty wary of using someone from BHW unless it's a verified BST.

I'll make another update tomorrow about diagnosing the issue.

UPDATE #1:

I was thinking of hiring a freelance technical SEO auditor and even posted a job listing on Upwork. There are several good options over there, but I thought, why not just find someone who's interested in doing a JV?

We had a previous client who helped us fine tune some of our on-page SEO processes, so I gave him a quick pitch:

pitch.jpg

Nothing too fancy and straight to the point. Actually I wasn't expecting he'll say yes immediately, but surprise, surprise.

After that pitch he just asked for more info and I told him:
  • What the site needs
  • What I can contribute to the JV.
  • Current status of the site (it's got an algo penalty...gotta tell him that as well)
  • Profit split I'm willing (I'm good with 50/50 - so basically the site needs to get to $2,000/month before I put a check mark on this journey)
The JV dude is on vacation until October 17th, so things will probably move slowly before that date.

UPDATE #2:

I already mentioned that I have an auctioned domain that I want to redirect this site to. It's still on the testing phase.
  1. We published 6 low-competition, info articles. All are at least 1,000 words in length.
  2. We'll wait for 30 days for results:
PASS: If the keywords rank at least on the 5th page for their main keywords
FAIL: If they rank further than 5th page.

I guess it's waiting time for now.

So for those following along...have you considered doing a JV for one of your sites?

You traffic is not much and it's around 2k a month. Still you managed to get 100$ a month even after google update? I am using adsense and getting 2$ a month with more traffic.
