I recently joined an MLM company and wanted to start a journal so that I can track my progress going forward as well as keep me accountable to keep working at it. So, here it is...

I've been involved with IM since 1996. I've had a lot of ups, and a lot of down periods over the years. My best year in 2005, I generated close to a million in sales with about $250K in profit. I actually started way back in 96 with one of the first banner exchanges. (This allowed me to quit my full-time job and get into IM full-time.)

I'm pretty sure I've done most of the trends over the years. Banner exchanges, link exchanges, Blogging, Article Marketing, Myspace marketing, Craigslist marketing, Twitter and Facebook marketing, leads generation, Micro Niche Websites and on and on. But I've never been able to generate a solid RESIDUAL income. Everything has faded away, even my Micro Niche websites aren't generating nearly as much as they used to.

What attracted me to MLM (Multi-Level Marketing or Network Marketing) in the first place is that you can build a SOLID residual income by recruiting others to do the same. I've dabbled in MLM before. My first exposure was Herbalife. I actually spent over $5,000 to get involved with that one and was pretty successful for awhile. I chose to recruit (instead of selling the product) and built a pretty good sized team and was making a nice residual income. However, due to legal pressure, they shifted from a recruiting focused company to a sales driven company with a $2,500 minimum per month in PERSONAL sales to keep getting your overrides. After that, I lost my drive and gave up.

I knew the idea was great. I met many TOP income earners that were making tens of thousands per month in residual income in a relatively short period of time. So my search was on for a recruiting focused MLM company. I tried Ethos which was a gas additive, Agel which was a vitamin in a gel pouch, Pre-Paid Legal which was a legal plan, MyWorldPlus which was a discount coupon company, Xango which was an expensive fruit drink and even Isagenix which was another weight loss company. I even tried Amway, the granddaddy of them all. I wasn't successful with any of them.

After all that, I simply gave up and went back to working a full-time job. I couldn't make enough STABLE income with IM, so went back to a full-time job so that I could keep supporting my family.

Fast forward two years and here I am ready to give MLM another go. I reinstated with one of the companies I worked with in the past that I feel has the strongest advantages out of all that I tried. It's inexpensive to get started, and I actually get paid more in commission than I initially generate. I am going to be focusing on recruiting once again.

I am not going to mention the name of the company here because I don't want this thread to pop up on a search by the company. I don't think they'd appreciate the marketing methods that we use here.

I will say that the company allows me to recruit new associates from 49 of the 50 states in the USA, (sorry Alaska) and 3 provinces in Canada. My main focus will be here in Florida. If I can find some recruits here in the Orlando area, I can take them under my wing and bring them up to speed fast. There are weekly business meetings right here in Orlando that I can tap into for extra help. (They have weekly meetings all over the US and Canada, but I will personally be working with the people here in the Orlando area.) They have some GREAT web tools, so I will be using them as well. I have my corporate website and recruiting website all set up. I will be using numerous marketing methods to generate traffic. The nice thing is, I'll be getting paid over and over again on all the sales I make and my team makes.

Back in 2004 when I first tried this company, I recruited 6 people. I dropped out a year later. When I reinstated last week, I found out that those 6 people went on to recruit 37 more people. Those 37 people could of been generating me at least an extra $2k in RESIDUAL income by now if I would of stuck with it. But I was distracted with other things I was working on back then, so now I am missing out.

I won't get into any heavy details on the compensation plan, but you basically find 3 people, then help them find 3 people and so on. The first 3 people that I sign up have the biggest advantage as I am able to place any additional recruits under them so it benefits both of us. ;)

I will update this thread as I begin recruiting into this company. I'll also post any sales of the service that I make with my commission. You'll see the commission I make per sale grow over time as I advance up the compensation plan.

If anyone has any interest in joining me, please PM me for more details. I can only work with people in the USA (except Alaska) or Canada, though. The opportunity is not available outside these countries.

If anyone has any questions (aside from what company is it), post them here and I'll do my best to respond to them in a timely manner.

So wish me luck! I'm pulling out all the stops on this one!

First stop - Facebook to announce my new company.

    Thanks!

Okay, my plan is to make 5 exposures per day. I've already started with warm market, and have made 11 exposures over the weekend. A few said they have no interest, but keep them posted with my progress. I think I have my first membership sold. I need to follow-up with her after the 1st of the month. (Thanks, mom!)

I also wanted to keep track of my spending. So far, I've spent:
$149 - enrollment as an associate
$49.95 - 1st month service (includes $10 activation fee) (Membership starts @ $17, but I got the Granddaddy Gold Plan. ;) Product of the product as they say.)
$165.00 - 2 years of VOIP phone service from VOIPo. (Includes taxes.)
$92.63 - Vistaprint for Business Cards and Stickers for back of brochures.
$119.89 - 2 Magnetic Door Signs for my SUV, and 1 Perforated decal for the back glass with my info.
$180.00 - State of Florida for their License. (Most states (about 30) and Canada don't require a license, but Florida does. Florida requires licensing for EVERYTHING.)
$65 - State of Virginia License (Cheaper than Florida. I have some friends in Virginia, so I wanted to be able to sell to them.)
$65 - State of Illinois License (I know a whole lot of people in the midwest. Other than Wisconsin, Illinois is the only state in the midwest that requires a license.)
$20 - Registered two .info domains. One for the Opportunity. One for the service.

    Total spent so far: $906.47

Man, I really need to start making so money now. ;)

Business cards came in the mail today, so I am ready to go.
One exposure down, 4 to go for today. Just gotta keep filling the funnel as they say in MLM.

Some Will... Some Won't.... Who's Next?

420 Florida - how is your Journey going? Best of luck with it.

I know rolling the boulder up the initial hump is tough, but after that it is a downhill roll & momentum, which = residual $$ :)

Thanks for starting this thread! Always been uneasy about MLMs but maybe your experience will show me otherwise.

Are you in ACN?... I was in that but it's essentially a huge scam, you have to put in way too much work for little amount of gains.

A good MLM company is like a good Affiliate offer - sometimes it is all about the timing. Hit the right product at the right time and you can seriously bank. MLM can be the perfect blend of online/offline and real products meshed with occasional digital content (I shy away from these as it is too easy to put value on something that has no real world value like those gosh awful penny auctions & phantom click systems like that Genie product *shudders*)

If you want to do MLM seriously then do your due diligence and always ask yourself the question - "If this MLM opportunity were not paying people a residual to promote it, would it have any real value or demand for it?"

This one question will keep your heart safe even when your eyes are popping out of your head over the amounts of money people are making in such a rapid fashion.

Best of luck on the journey and keep us updated!

Thanks for all the positive feedback!! I gave up posting updates as I didn't think anybody was interested anymore. But, yes, I am still building my business. I've recruited two people into my organization and am working on my 3rd. I've sold quite a few memberships already. And, yes, the memberships really do stand on their own. Even if there wasn't a business attached to it, I would continue to keep my membership. I've been approaching local businesses since we can offer the membership as an employee benefit. I actually ran into another associate that has been inactive for 2 years as she is currently working two jobs. She still has the membership, though, and won't live without it.It isn't easy, but nothing of value really is. It's not get-rich-quick. It's a 3-5 year plan. I have a full-time job to provide my income while I build my team. One of my recruits is building his team hard-core. He is buying leads and has recruited one new associate already and has two in the pipeline. They are coming to our local meeting on Thursday here in Orlando to get more details on the business side. They both already want a membership even if they decide the business isn't for them. The reason I went with this MLM over any others is two fold.1. The membership definitely stands on its own. Even without the business attached, the membership is still valuable. AND, people are actually earning 6 figure incomes just selling the memberships without recruiting... Not many MLMs can say that.2. The comp plan is unbeatable. I've already advanced 1 level in the few months I've been involved. I earn over $100 for every $35 membership I market. (Paid DAILY!!) I earn a $34 override for every $35 membership my team markets. Why? Because we are paid a 1 year advanced commission. They are THAT confident that people will keep the membership. And, after that 1 year is up, I get a residual commission on every membership for the life of that membership. I also earn additional overrides on every membership as well. I love the idea of doing the work once, and getting paid on it for life. So, I am definitely pleased with my results so far. Is it making me rich? No. Not yet... But I am definitely on the right path and will continue to build it.If anybody would like to see what it is all about, please PM me and I'll send you the link to the business overview video. You have to reside in the USA or Canada, though. I challenge anyone to find a better comp plan that this one, though.Oh, I also qualified for the Performance Club. 1 more month and I get another $150 bonus. Keep it up for a year, and I get a monthly $300 bonus or $500/month towards a BMW. Very cool. Thanks again for all your kinds comments everyone! I'll try to stay more active on this thread and keep you all up to date now that I know there is some interest.

I also was considering dipping my toes into the online MLM water, however I found out that almost all MLM companies require you to use their duplicated site for everything and they are extremely restrictive in regards to SEO/SEM so I walked away.

To the OP... since you said BMW I know who you are in bed with (V). I am thinking about them too.

@Aakon7, this sucks but you have to understand the reasons. The FDA and FTC are in it for the money. You fuck up and they fine you or shut you down. Many MLMers will sell their mother's soul for a buck so they will say my powder cures this and that and can save you from this and that and it can prevent this and that... all statements that only DRUGS can make. So to protect the business of everyone they restrict you.

Frankly, most corporate sites SUCK so you need to hone your personal skills.

You don't need a website. You can just use Facebook and Linkedin. Engage people. Ask about their lives. Discover their pains. SOLVE them through your business and show them your JOIN ME NOW AND GIVE ME YOUR MONEY page.

    It's kinda that simple.

I gave it away, didn't I? LOL! You are right, they are very restrictive on using SEO/SEM and even the domain names you can use and restricting you from even using certain keywords. I don't even use the corporate website. There is a 3rd party website - approved by the company - that really rocks in my opinion. The presentation is top notch. (If you want the link, PM me.) To be honest, if you watch the presentation and don't want to jump in, I don't think anything will convince you.

There are certainly many other methods of promotion. They DO allow you to use Social networking. I generate quite a few hits just by posting certain articles on my FB page. Once you know who the company is, you'll know what I mean. There are literally hundreds of articles posted on Google News each day that I can post a link to on FB that gets the problem across that we have a solution for. ESPECIALLY here in Florida. We are #1 in the nation for that particular problem. But it affects at least 1 out of 10 people, and 51 times more children are affected.

My 1st recruit is actually going crazy with the business. Corporate even sent him a lead yesterday which I am scratching my head on. I thought you had to be a higher level to get leads from Corporate, but he did. We are also looking at using a company to pre-qualify our leads for us since we are both working full-time and our time to build the business is very limited. We are finding that even if people are not interested in the business, they want the membership, so it works out VERY well. Even if they get the lowest membership @ $17/mth, we make $75 up front deposited into our account in about 2 days. So you can make gobs of money just marketing the membership. But the leverage is in finding associates as the overrides are fantastic. Another cool thing is once you reach a level, (except for the highest level), you are there forever. Even if you take a break for a year (as long as you keep at least the $17 membership), you still keep whatever level you work yourself up to. Get to the highest level and you can make over $200 for each $35 membership you market. VERY nice... Plus if you are at the highest level, and you recruit somebody new, you can make close to $200 in overrides for each membership that THEY market. It's a great way to keep EVERYONE motivated.

Anyways, if anybody has any questions, just post away or PM me. I'll keep everyone up-to-date as I climb the ladder. :)

Corporate usually don't want people building their own Marketing sites, and are restrictive as to what words you can use in titles, domain etc.
    - Therefor treat it like you do SEO wheel & drive all the traffic to your Web 2.0, articles and press releases. Each of these will have links straight to your site or to your list builder sites. Links in your resource box too.
Build fringe websites that will filter traffic through to your main conversion page. If your MLM is Weight Loss then build a good generic Weight Loss site with an eBook download. In your eBook download include links to your own product/signup page.
Build a list and set your autorespond to trickle the info in between the emails concerning Reports, White Papers and Informational nuggets.

If everything else you have shared with your list is a nugget, then they will receive your MLM product/service as a nugget!

Think outside of the box, solve peoples problems - but trade your problem solving for a position of leverage.
