OK, I have to say I have a problem with this journey thread from the start. I don't know how to write proper tittle for my own thread :p

Anyway, my plan with this journey is to stop reading and start implementing what I have read and learned on BHW these few months. I have to say that I'm pretty noob when it comes to building and marketing a site. I had a website before, and left it untouched and expired. Now, I will start a new website by following and implementing various tips available on this forum.
    What are they?

    1. Older domain name with at least little authority on it usually will be better than starting with a brand new one.
=> I have just bought a 2 years old domain related to the niche I will target.
I.E: If my topic is "diabetes", the domain will be "diabetescamp.com", just an example, I don't know if that domain is available or not, and my my niche is not about diabetes.
According to ahrefs, the domain has few links on it, not spammy ones. And I can make it as my 'brand'. At least that's what I think and hope.

    2. Optimized keyword density content following phpbuilt's thread.
FYI, I'm a non native speaker and my English is far from good, let alone perfect. However, I will try to write my own articles for 2 reasons:
    - I want to improve my English and writing skill
    - I don't have money to buy articles, or any other services... I'm serious :D
Let's see how far I can go....

    3. Silo site structure. I have read the Silo legendary thread, mostly on posts from WebDev, on the download sub forum.
I know there are few silo plugins available, free or paid. However I decided to not use those plugins since from the few examples I saw so far, those plugins will increase the keyword density a lot. Maybe it won't be a problem for anyone with great English and excellent writing skills who can write 1K+ words article easily, which unfortunately, is not my case.
I will use a plugin called "custom sidebars" that will let us create custom bar widget with basically any links on it.

    4. Various link building tips, methods, and techniques. But I will not talk or even think about this part first. My focus will be building and developing the site as far as I can go. Ranking and monetary will come later, hopefully.

Ok, I have to say I'm, kind of, cheating with this journey thread. I have tried to build the site skeleton using offline wordpress, running on my localhost drive.
With that skeleton I built a complete wordpress site with complete index page, silo page, sub pages, and posts.
All with no content, just tittle, that will be enough since I only need the link/URL for my sidebar widgets.
And yes, I have done my keyword research as well... another cheat :p .. But I'm positive you guys won't mind it too much...

So, here are what I've got so far.
    - a two years old domain, cost me $12... this is the only cost I spent so far
    - a little hosting account given by a friend, he has a spare on his reseller account and donate me one.. (God bless you buddy..)
    - a complete, somewhat, keyword research, enough to build a silo site with 4-5 silo pages and 5-10 sub pages/posts for each silo page
    - 2-4 hours a day as I have other things to do in life
    - you.. BHW fellows, who will give me, hopefully, pointers, tips, suggestions, critics, without the flames and trolls :D

What is my target with this journey.
To be really honest, my target is just learning and implementing (taking action). I really don't have real target when it comes to monetary or even ranking.
My niche is super competitive, it covers one of the biggest industry on internet. Most of you will say, a noob like me must be crazy to go with this niche.
But I don't care. This is the only niche that I think I can write many articles without too much problems.

So... here I am with my journey thread.. I will update again later, with what I have done and will do...
And finally, thank you for reading my journey thread...

PS: Just a proof of how s*ck my writing skill... I spent more than 30 minutes, maybe an hour, just to write this post

Seems like a solid plan. I'm also in the process of creating a silo. It's hard work but I'm sure it'll be worth it in the future. WebDev has provided some great information that also motivated me. Anyways good luck on you journey I'll be checking back :)

    Thanks to the responds guys..
socialmediamanager: Thanks, I agree with you. Actually I have some goals in mind, it's just that the monetary and ranking are not my main recent focus.

Updates with what I've done so far.

    1. Installed wordpress, tried few themes, and I decided to use "Iconic One" theme. It's free, responsive, and easy to customize.

    2. Create simple logo for my site. I remove the link on that logo (which by default links to home page). I use the default "home" link comes from the theme. Maybe I will remove the default home link later, and go with link from the logo.

    3. Made several mandatory pages: About US, Contact Us, Privacy Policy, Terms of Use (any other similar pages I have to include?)
I just went to a site ranks on page 1, and see those 4 pages, so I just create them. They still have no content, I just need the pages and URLs for navigation purpose. I only put those pages links on the home page, and not available on other pages.

    4. Made 4 Silo Pages, with several sub pages under each of them. Sub pages are the 'supporting pages', I really don't know how to describe them properly :D
Maybe I will made a visual diagram later to describe the site structure completely. I make sure there is no 'silo break' due to cross linking from different silo/sub pages. Again, those are just empty pages with tittle only for site structure purpose.

    5. Plugins I use:
    - Custom Sidebars for siloing purpose.
*Warning: It can be a PITA setting it up properly, especially for noob like me. But it's ideal for my purpose.
    - Exclude Pages from Navigation. It is used to remove pages from default theme navigation that will break the silo structure.
    - Redirection. It is used to redirect my 'category page' to my silo page.
*Will be useful once I started to use 'post' instead of 'pages'. Currently I still only with pages.
    - I will add different plugins later, but those plugins above are what needed to structure my site the way I want.

    6. Remove unnecessary HTML code on few php files that potentially can bring unwanted duplicate content (based on phpbuilt's instruction) and/or break the silo structure. I will still have to test them later to make sure everything works properly.

    What I will do next.
    - Create more sub pages (with tittle only) to complete all the page links I need to properly structure my site.
    - Create several posts (again with tittle only) to ensure everything works properly, then expand with more posts.
    - Attach second monitor (old one) so I can rewrite articles easier. I still need other article for idea or sample to write my own.

That's all for now. Suggestions, critics, and questions are always welcomed. Thanks!

    Update.

I didn't said this yesterday since I want to see the result first.

After I bought the domain, I just realized that the domain is listed as dangerous site by google. It seems the old site was identified as dangerous site so google display "this website may harm your computer", things like that, on the serp. Yeah, silly me for not checking/noticing that earlier. But the positive part is, I learn how to use webmaster tool to remove that harmful site warning. Submitted review yesterday, and it's now 'clean'. I also created a sitemap.xml, submitted to webmaster tool and now 4 pages are already indexed. It's all new thing to me.

Finished few more pages and posts "skeleton" for site structuring purpose, and so far everything works like the way I want. Removed date, author link (to avoid duplicate content), categories redirected to parent silo page, removed "older and newer" post links under each post so it doesn't break the silo structure.

I wrote an article for main page/index, it's 1100+ words, along with 5 related images. Keyword density is all under 2%. I use seoquake plugin for this so I can see the whole keyword density across the page.

It's Sunday and I don't have anything to do so I will have lots of time for this. I plan to write 3-4 articles for the silo pages today. Maybe few more articles for sub pages if my brain still can process it :D

That's all for now, and I will bust my brain to write articles now. Anyway, the 2nd monitor turns out to be really useful to rewrite articles. I open the original article on the 2nd monitor and my MS words on the main monitor.

Will update again later, maybe tonight (in my time zone).

    Another update for today.

Finished writing 4 articles for the Silo Pages. All are 700+ words, with optimized keyword density (under 2% density on words/phrases level). I have to edit and re-edit the article to make it happen.

Installed another plugin called "TablePress" to help me make table inside a post/page. Play with it a bit and it can accommodate what I need. Maybe there is other better "table plugin", I'll search again later, but for now it's quite good for my purpose.

Plan for Monday is writing 4 articles, 1 article for each sub page. 1 Sub page for each Silo page. I don't know if I can achieve that since, yeah, Monday is not Sunday. We'll see...
After those sub pages filled with content, no matter when, I will write 4 articles for post. 1 post for each silo page.

Maybe I made it too complicated to understand, lol. OK, here they're:
Silo page = customized category page. Category URL (*.com/category/cat1) is redirected to a page (*.com/cat1-page-tittle).
Sub page = child page under each silo page, covering the same topic with the silo page, just more specific.
Post = The common article post on wordpress, covering the same topic with silo page and sub page.

Here I will make an example (made up topic)

Main page (Index) = Samsung TV Review
Silo Page = Samsung LCD TV Review, Samsung LED TV Review, Samsung Plasma TV Review
Sub Page (under LCD Silo) = Samsung LCD490GV Review, Samsung LCD881YF Review
Post (Article Under LCD Silo) = Best Samsung LCD TV for Small Room, How to Find Best Deal on Samsung LCD TV

I hope I make sense here, lol.
Very tired... I have to sleep now... thanks for reading.

it's so quiet here, what a lonely road... :D

anyway, finished writing 2 articles today.
will write another 2 articles before I sleep so each silo topic will have 1 sub-page.
9 pages are indexed on Google so far, 4 of them are empty pages.

Plan for tomorrow is writing 4 articles for post, so each silo will have 1 post.
That will complete the overall structure I want.
After that I can reduce the speed of new articles posted, and look for other tasks.
Maybe social part, G+, FB, twitter, which I don't have any idea about, yet.
Or maybe start building web2.0 sites (which basically another writing tasks).

That's all for today. Thanks for reading and have a productive Monday for everyone.

    Thanks guys... really appreciate it

    Today's Update.
Wrote 4 articles for post, since they're supporting articles I can write them easier and faster. Just 500-ish words long.
The site structure goes like the way I want, not in 'perfect' silo but it doesn't break the silo as well. I'm pretty sure it's good, and I can change it later if needed.

I also made a gmail account using mydomain(at)gmail, made a page on Gplus (the first time I do it), made YT channel, though I don't have any idea what kind of video to upload (not that I have a plan to do that for now).

Also made a blogspot with mydomain.blogspot.com, mydomain.wordpress.com, and maybe on other web 2.0 sites later. Kind of securing my brand, though I am not sure what content to put there. Maybe just a kind of 'updates' with a link to my main site. Or not.

Made a facebook, twitter, and pinterest account as well using that same email. I don't have any idea what to do with those accounts yet. Twitter/mydomain is taken by someone on the same niche. Facebook.. I will have to learn how to set up an official page on it (don't know how to do it now). Pinterest/mydomain is available, so I grab it. This is the first time I made an account on twitter and pinterest, I have FB account before to play zynga poker :)

I made a little calculation. By the end of this month I can have 50-ish pages on this site if I can keep my focus.
But when it comes to link building, hmmmh....

Talking with 'ideal' numbers in it, 50 pages, each page will be supported with 10 links, all should be in content link.
Since I have no money for it, then web 2.0 sites are the ideal option available, which is not bad.

So, I need 500 web 2.0 sites created, I can handle it. But writing 500 articles for them?
Even if I buy $1 article, no one gonna do that anyway, I will still need to spend $500, which I don't have.
Even if post 2 links on each article I still need 250 articles.
And I'm talking about just 1 article on each web 2.0, which is not really recommended be many people here
It's really a pay to play game

But screw it.... I will find a way... Let's focus on building the site first.
My plan is to have at least 100 pages first, so I'll stick to it...

    Tomorrow plan:
Write more articles and maybe make some more accounts...

This is an interesting journey, I'll follow you. Good luck! I can't wait to see what you'll do for linkbuilding.

Thanks mate. I decide to not think about the link building for now and just focus on writing the contents first.

    Update: Nothing special actually.
Just writing more articles to fill up the site.

Here are what have done so far:
    - 1 article for index page
    - 4 mandatory pages (contact us, etc)
    - 4 silo pages
    - 12 sub pages
    - 6 articles for post
    - Gmail, Gplus, YT account for the site
    - FB, Twitter, Pinterest account
    - 6 web 2.0 sites as 'official' page on that site (i.e: mydomain.wordpress.com)
    * All just have "welcome" post for now, no link to the main site yet, just mention my domain on that post
    - Still only 9 pages indexed on google

Short Plan: Will write 10 articles during Saturday and Sunday, and build more web 2.0 official sites.

    Longer Plan:
There are various topics I can write that are not covered by the current silo.
I compile the topics in a list where I add more anytime I find new ones.
If I can get enough similar topics maybe I will add them in a new silo.
Topics that can't be covered in any silo/new silo will be posted on a blog (mydomain.com/blog)
The blog will be separated from the silo structure, but will give links to any related pages on the main site.

That's for today. Thanks for reading and have a great weekend for everyone.

    Update:
These 2 days I ended writing only 7 articles for sub pages and 1 article for post.
Not bad but still can't meet my target for this weekend.
I also made several new "official" web 2.0 sites.
Not sure if I will continue this, maybe later when I have time.

Starting from Monday I will only be able to put fewer times for this site.
But I will keep adding new article, at least 1 new article a day.
And maybe start making web 2.0 sites for tier 1 purpose.

    So far this site has:
    - 1 article for index page
    - 4 mandatory pages
    - 4 silo pages
    - 19 sub pages (+7)
    - 7 articles for post (+1)
    - 13 official web 2.0 sites

    That's for now.
Sleep time... should be ready for busy week(s)

I hope it is going well. I think if you stick to it you will succeed. Remember with a silo you internal links will move and make that link juice more effective
