Hi, BHW I just joined yesterday and I am glad I found this website. I hesitated to ask questions before I actually search through the plethora of information available in this great website. The problem I face with tons of information is there are tons of choices as well.

After going through a lot of information on here I have decided to go with copywriting, specifically because everything else I can outsource one I get there. I know this is a blackhat Seo Forum but I just don't know where to start with that. I absolutely have no background in marketing, advertising, copywriting, seo, or anything else related to internet marketing. In fact I always thought a copywriter was someone who writes material that is mean't to be copy and distributed among the masses.

Now after searching for where to start I found the Gary Halbert Letter where he talks about world class copywriter in 30 days. Not sure if he is any good but I read several great reviews from other forums. Fortunately I have until late October to learn as much as I can before I have to go to west Texas to drive a module truck. So I downloaded pretty much all the books he mentions as well as a few other classics from what I'm told and got several hundred swipes(not sure if I am spelling that right).

So if I can something that will make me some money down the road than I am all for it, if not than I will go back to driving.

As a wait to motivate me I decided to keep a daily log on here of my progress.(Hope it isn't against the Forum Rules, couldn't find anything on there that says otherwise.)

If any fellow newbie wants to join me than feel free. We can critique each other and also keep each other motivated. I will be starting first thing tomorrow morning.

Tried sending you a pm but I couldn't until I get my post count up.
Great, I am just started. I am following the halbert letter. Just type in "halbert hands on experience" on google and it is the first one.

I also a few more classic books that other people recommended. How much time do you have per day? Are you from the US? We can maybe chat over the phone or on Skype.

Let me know if you need any help finding those books, letters, or ads.

Just finished Scientific Advertising and The Robert Collier Letter Book. Boy were these two real eye openers. I would have thought writing to one specific group was counter-intuitive to making money. After all you are cutting out a large section of the population. People buying with their emotions and not there head is another one. I can totally see how Apple, Rolls Royce, Ferrari, and many other premium price companies can stay in business.

I really can't wait to run through these two books and take notes. However, the Robert Collier Book is 400 pages. That is going to be a busy day for me. Side note: "It is interesting to read some history on a book that was written between the two world wars."

Today I wasn't as productive as I thought I would be. I figured I would at least read four books. So I've made a goal of trying to read Tested Advertising Methods, How to Write A Good Advertisement, and The Gary Halbert Letter(1,200 pages, busy day tomorrow).

Thank you for the advice. I think I will cross that bridge when I get there. But, for right now I decided to just focus on copywriting instead of have my attention spread around the different aspects of IM.

Good luck on your journey. I was thinking of dabbling in copywriting myself as the best copywriters make big $$$. Every product launch needs a good copywriter behind it.

I am not even sure what a product launch is. But from what I read from here and several other forums I came to the conclusion that copywriting is a real valuable asset for several reasons. For instance let say I wanted to do SEO for offline business like tacktical(sorry if I spelled your name wrong). I've been reading that the problem that people face isn't that actual SEO part but actually getting clients. I think great copywriting skills would help in areas like this. After all you are just selling your services vs product.

Of course there are many other ways I can use copywriting skills.
Anyways thanks for your words of encouragement. Also if your interested maybe we can learn copywriting together. Maybe discuss books after reading them. Critique sales letters. Find out why certain sales letters sell more than others.

    Day 2 Completed

Just finish Tested Advertising Methods, How To Write A Good Advertisment, The Gary Halbert Letter, and the Boron Letters. Boy was it a long day. I like these books more because of the actual methods instead of theory like the previous two. Testing Advertising Methods was a real eye opener. I can honestly say I've learned more about a person from this book than from anything else in my entire life. This should be consider a bible for anyone trying to sell something.

Tomorrow I am going to take it easy and just read the final 2 books. I really dread writing all these ads word for word. I don't understand how this will help, but hey that is why I am a newbie.

Finish the last two books as well as did the wrote the first sales letter by hand. I can see why he recommends doing these ads by hand after reading the books. I can see why this ad was successful. A lot of the principles in the books especially Tested Advertising Methods was applied to this letter. I downloaded a bunch of sales letters written by the people he recommended so instead of updating this thread daily I am going to do it weekly. I think it would take me 2-6 weeks to finish all these ads.

My schedule would be to do at least 2 per day but I am going to try to do 4. Anyways I got to go to bed now I have a long day tomorrow.
