So here is the short of it.

Once upon a time I had a blog. It was focused on the happenings at a multi-national corporation. It was started when I was totally new to Internet marketing. The blog was really supposed to be only something I could use as a learning experience. Back then I was amazed that I could install Wordpress, but what I should have been amazed with was the fact that I quickly had tens of thousands of visitors to my blog, and I built up a large and loyal following (back when MySpace ruled) and even a profit here and there, though not a large one.
The blog never made any real money and I let it fall into the abyss. I was immediately attacked with "what the hell" emails and now, years later, I still get the odd "I wish you would bring it back" facebook message from people who used to regular the blog.

Four days ago I registered the .net (the .com has been taken over by the corporation) and began using the "waybackwhenmachine" to transfer as much old content as I could from the archived blog. What I am going to do is re-establish the old blog and, now that I am what I would consider experienced Internet Marketer (enough to do it full time), I am going to rebuild and attempt to surpass the following that I had. I will also attempt to make the blog into something profitable, even though money has almost nothing to do with what the blog is all about. (The corp does not have an affiliate program.)

I believe that now, with the advent of social media and with my current knowledge, I can do this. I invite you to follow along. Feel free to ask questions (you can't have the niche or web address). Feel free to comment and please offer advice.

So I have had the blog "live" now for about just over 1 week. The past 4 days I have gotten traffic to the blog. It's all search traffic from Google, so that's awesome. Here is this:

How I got search traffic so quickly is by REALLY good on page SEO. (I have no off page seo at all, yet). I use two plugins for wordprss. One is called "seopressor" and the other is "seo yoast". Between the two of them, on page seo is a walk in the park. I literally input the search term I want to rank for (G keyword tool helps w/ research) and these two plugins tell me EXACTLY what I need to do.

Essentials I never miss with on page SEO:

    • keyword (phrase) in h1, h2, and h3
    • keyword (phrase) in italic, bold, underlined and highlighted
    • keyword (phrase) in first and last sentences
    • keyword (phrase) in URL
    • keyword (phrase) heading
    • keyword (phrase) in meta title and description
    • 1 link to other page on website
    • 1 link off to another website (authority on subject)
    • rel="nofollow" to links
    • AT LEAST 1 image: title and alt tags set to keyword (phrase)
Following that formula, I ALWAYS get on the first page for low/fair competition key-phrases.
That's all I have on SEO for you all at the moment.

You create artificial and transient traffic by posting your site on many social bookmarking sites. Consistent traffic flow will come from ranking on google, youtube videos and such : )

I don't want to black hat any of this (artificial and transient) as far as ranking goes. I really don't think I need to. I am ranking on page 1 for most of the blog posts over night with only on page seo. The youtube videos I intend to make should help a bunch though.

Once I start to get a lot of visitors I would like to black-hat some adsense though. I already have a plan for that. Thinking MWs. Because I rank so easily, I can create a "job" where people search for one of like 20 different terms... then click into my site; snoop around for a few minutes, then click an ad...
    Just a thought...

    Subscribed.

Interesting challenge and a nice twist to the journal-type posts. Props for using more the style of a case study approach than just posting your stats.

If you are not currently implimenting the SEO suggestions that I included, those suggestions alone would be a BIG help. I would swear before God by those methods of on page SEO. I have found near perfect on page SEO to be more effective than any black hat trick for low-medium competition key-phrases.

OK people. It's day 14 which is officially 2 weeks into this.

The short of it is this: I have about 10 quality, unique articles on the blog. 4 of them or constantly updated. Search engine traffic has slowed in the last four days... which is frightening, but I am thinking that it may be because I have not updated the blog in about 5 days. I am not sure how much "fresh content" helps with ranking or exactly how fresh the blog must remain, but it appears to me that more is better (more is better anyway)

Nothing really changing here. Still shooting for 90%+ SEOPressor score and all green yoast score(s). No off page SEO whatsoever yet. Blog is still to new for me to mess about with that I think. I would say about 95% of the traffic I have so far is search engine... so I really think I am doing that right...

    SOCIAL NETWORKING
    Facebook.
Haven't been using it just yet other than to post blog updates.
    YouTube.
I KNOW for a fact that a LOT of traffic will be won by youtube. Nothing yet.
    Pintrest.
I have 28 followers that are following me absolutely naturally. My pins only number something like 18 with about 5 riepins... so I guess that's ok for a start.

    MAKING MONEY
    Adsense.
I today added adsense to the existing blog posts. That's all there is to report there.

As for 14 days... I am thinking the 500 mark is pretty cool. I still have a lot of blog posts to "import", but I don't want to publish them all over-night. I want this to be natural because... well, it is. Keep in mind that I am NOT black hatting SEO. Also: I have not hit the social networks yet because the website really doesn't look "up to par" yet. I am actually designing many aspects of the site still. So work in-progress for sure.

I am looking into turning a few bucks, but as you may have read... It's really about the visitors, not so much the money...

Wouldn't tell if it was. Not giving that one away.

Anyway all. The project for this morning is setting up Yoast PROPERLY, which come to find out, I have not done on my other two sites, so I have all of my sites open (including the one in discussed here) and I am setting up Yoast according to these instructions: http://www.wpbeginner.com/plugins/how-to-install-and-setup-wordpress-seo-plugin-by-yoast/
I have not found a better guide and they are number one for "setup yoast", so they must know a thing or two. Note that the new version of Yoast is just a little different from the one used in the how-to guide, but not enough to confuse.

The only places I don't go along with their plan.
    • In "titles", I did not set the keyword meta keywords template except for tags and author, because I have a habit of doing this manually for every page/post I ever make. The structure of everything else reflects my standard operating procedures so I used them. - This site we are talking about here in this thread is the only one of mine that didn't have a bunch of other types of fields I had to set manually... so I will not go into anything else on that.
    • Social (facebook only) has it's own section now in Yoast. It's a simple set up. I it to post to FB as admin - I set my pages - Set Open-graph.

Guys if you are not using Yoast, I highly suggest it. I have used ALL of the other SEO plugins over the years I and I have switched to Yoast on all three of my money sites. With Yoast, you can even Import from All-in-One SEO, and Headspace. Just see the guide I presented and used to see how in depth this plugin goes.

    That's all for now.
