    Hi Everyone,

Hoping to list my progress as I learn the ropes with my first drop-shipping site.

I currently work as a fairly well paid IT manager. Last year I was lucky enough to be given a 3 month sabbatical to travel around south east Asia. I absolutely loved it and plan to go back next year, this time with my girlfriend for as long as we want. Obviously this entails me quitting my job so I would like to start something that will give me some spending cash while being maintained.

I decided to go with drop-shipping because it offers the flexibility that I needed while traveling.

So a few weeks back, I registered a domain, got myself a niche, set up a wordpress site with woocommerce, created my store, added the products and then last week I went live.

    So far my expenditure is as follows;

    - £70 WP Themes / Plugins
    - £30 Facebook Adverts
    - £10 misc adverts

I already had a VPS which I had used for hosting other sites/game servers.

This is the result of my 2nd ad.

However I haven't received a single sale yet and my site doesn't seem to get much traffic. Will continue to persevere, any advice would be welcome.

    Next Steps:
    - Work on making site look as safe as possible
    - Look at making some new ads
    - Read more Blackhat for tips.

Quick reply! Thanks, I don't want to let this one drop.

Cheers! Lunaaa's thread, along with an Irish guy a while back actually gave me the drive to set this up :)

I read your journey earlier, being 16 and into this sort of thing is great! Yeah, I didn't want to invest too much unless I saw some sort of profit. £30/month seemed silly when I can set up a full eCommerce site for free with woocommerce and an SSL cert through Let's Encrypt. I also use both wordpress and some woocommerce at work so it was the obvious choice :)

So just a quick update, unfortunately not a good one.

I spent some time yesterday refining the site, adding a more noticable 'free world wide shipping' as well as just some general tidying up. I also got my first article on the blog. Spent a while today doing some more advertising on reddit.

I am thinking I may have chosen a niche that is too competitive, will look at doing a side project to test the water with a more focused niche. ROOKIE MISTAKE #1

Either way, we don't learn from success, we learn from mistakes so I will continue !

The site seems to be getting very little traffic, think I need to make more focused adverts, possibly going to try a video advert next.... Thinking of taking some amateur blogger's videos and just combining them to form a decent length then add some music and a logo...

    Okay quick update.

I have learned the first mistake, I chose a niche that was way too saturated.. Starting to look for another niche now. Will leave this store up but it just isn't gaining any traction and I have discovered recently just how many people are in this niche..

Niche is women's underwear/swimsuits by the way.
