I have this website for almost 3 years, it's been earning decent money when compared to the investment, but due to my laziness traffic is drowning for last year and a half

    analytics.png
I bought quality articles ($15 for 500 words) in 2011 when I registered the domain and later that year, 14 articles in total. The traffic was growing, actually I did no backlinking, just had few "natural" backlinks. It was earning $3/day on Adsense (not much, but $90 a month compared $200 investment is quite good) on period before it was slapped by Google. First, Penguin and Panda in April 2012, and then Panda and EMD update at September 27, 2012. The traffic halved, site is barely earning $1/day now.

I could made some changes, but no :p , I left it sinking and did nothing about it. If I only reinvested 50% of earnings and changed over-optimized content it could have earn decent money today (learn from my mistakes!). My plan is to recover it and grow to earn $10 a day, here are details:

    - bought new domain, I'll redirect site from keywordphrase.net to thekeyword.com
    - change over-optimized content: titles, keyword density, internal links, alt tags
    - add more external links (about 1-3 on each article, since I have 0 now)
    - add Youtube video or picture where needed
    - slowly drip feed social signals
    - responsive template
    - post 6 fresh articles
    - get few quality guest posts related to niche
    - reinvest money into new content to achieve the goal

I'll share my experiences regularly, so everyone can see findings and use/avoid it for own project.

    Suggestions are welcome!
    Thanks guys for motivation :)

so you're re-directing the penalised domain to a new site or the other way round? You have the right idea about onpage optimisation - make sure your article OBLs are to authority sources.

    Good luck with the journey.

I'm redirecting penalized domain to a new domain. I hope the power of backlinks from old domain will flow to new one, and penalty will be removed.

    Thanks :)

Hi guys, sorry for not updating the thread. I did the following actions:
    I successfully recovered site :D

Here are weekly stats of the old site, about 5-6 visits from Google:

After the redirect (end of February) and after 5 guest posts (1 April):

I received 10-15 visits per day from Google after the redirect and about 20-25 when guest posts were published. Bing traffic decreased a little bit (few percent), and Yahoo was at 50% in the beginning, now broke record of the old site.

Traffic is slowly increasing and earnings follow it, I'll keep reinvesting money and I hope I will reach my goal once :)

I was under the impression that penalty will "follow you" if you redirect a penalized domain?

OP - how many blog posts did you buy? and how much was your total investment?

    Update for May:
    Google traffic still grows EHsqufC.png

    Earnings increased to $2.5/day CptUbIV.png

Note that I haven't changed anything or done any SEO for the last 60 days.
I will buy more quality content for this site in June, hope traffic and earnings will follow it :)

I also added optin popup few days ago to collect subscribers and try to sell them related Clickbank product, no one opted in so far.

...I always hated those guys who started journey and never finished it. And I became one of them :)

At June 5 Google slapped my site and total traffic halved (Google traffic went from 35 UV/day to 10).

I decided to quit my journey because of dependence on unpredictable SE algorithms, I thought it is not clever to invest money without knowing will it ever return. Basically, I lost hope main life principles: reinvesting and compound interest will earn you most, every journey has ups and downs, hard work always pays off.

At August 25 Google returned my rankings and site receives more traffic than ever. I guess this penalty has happened because of guest posts I made at the end of May. Earnings are near $3/day.

    Here are Analytics stats:

    and Adsense stats:

Here's update: Google traffic continued to rise, as well as earnings. I haven't changed anything on site since March and last backlinks were made in May. I should investment more money into articles and quality links to keep these numbers increasing :)
