Who Am I? How Did I Get Started? Hey everyone, my name is Dillon and I am currently a full time college student with a full time job... Nothing special here just your average college student. Anyway, I have been interested in internet marketing since the age of 16 when I first joined this forum. In the beginning all I did was sell old baseball cards I had stored away in my closet on eBay for a small profit. That led to buying and reselling items of larger quantities on eBay for a bigger profit. After getting scammed for over $300 I decided to look into other options. I then moved onto craigslist posting and then CPA offers, I made some decent money but eventually decided to get a full time job and leave the internet marketing world behind. Well now I am back and am looking to build an Authority Site from the ground up.

My game plan: My game plan is pretty simple and I will explain everything as I go along in great detail so anyone who would like to learn should be able to understand. My basic outline is

    1) A Key Word Friendly Domain With Quality Hosting
    - I believe this is one of the most important steps as I am creating an authority site in which I will have a large amount of quality content. Because of this I need my domain name to be specific enough to let my viewers know exactly what my site is about but not so specific that I have a hard time being able to create unique content around my niche on a daily basis. *Remember URL names should always have keywords in them such as carreviews.com not random numbers and words that have no value, this applies to your subdomains as well.* For the hosting I am going to find a host with a minimum of 95% uptime, unlimited data, and unlimited emails. *Never go with free hosting unless you have no other option*

    2) Content On My Website - All the content on my website will be completely unique and I will be doing all of the writing myself to begin with. If I am unable to find topics to write about I will manually rewrite articles with a minimum of 93% Uniqueness according to www.CopyScape.com, no spinning tools for me. All articles will have a minimum of 300 words and no more than 1,000. I will use 1 keyword per article at a rate of 3% using http://textalyser.net/ as I am not pushing my luck, I am going for a long term website not short term.

    3) Site Structure - I will be using internal links within my content (Having a hyperlink in your article that links to another one of your webpages) This will attempt to keep viewers on my page longer and allow google to crawl my website easier. I will also use external links (Hyperlinks in my article that link to an outside website) These sites will be of high authority to keep my content looking of the same quality its self. My site will be a WordPress blog.

    4) Backlinks - I will manually do my own back links in the beginning to get a better understanding of how they work, what works best for my site, and to see how much a certain service is worth. Because of my attempt at an authority site I will go for quality over quantity. Most of my backlinks will come from (Site Profiles, Web 2.0 Profiles, Social Bookmarking Profiles, Web 2.0 and RSS Feed Submissions) *I will take full advantage of social networks* Content is king of a website but I believe social networks are king of backlinks.

    5) How Will I Make Money - Authority sites have almost unlimited potential. Light use of AdSense to begin, Cpa Offers, Amazon Affiliate, Sell an Ebook I am working on, create a targeted email list, and eventually sell ad space to other blogs.

    6) Extra Info - Hours per week working on website 15-25
    Starting Budget - $100
    Monthly recurring budget - $40
    Month Revenue - $0
    Month Cost - $0

*I will update this journey the best I can feel free to ask any questions especially those of noobie status. We all have to learn somewhere and I will not flame anyone for asking a "stupid" question on this thread. I will be giving out more specific details so stay tuned.*

    Update 1

Domain Research - I picked a topic I am very knowledgeable in as I am the one who will be doing all of the article writing in the beginning. This is very important because attempting to create hundreds of articles over a subject you know nothing about can be extremely time consuming. My domain is an exact keyword domain besides the first word example (www.carhelp.com) = emd mine would be (www.easycarhelp.com) basically this allows my domain to be easily remembered but also gives me the ability to write anything about car help.

Hosting - I found a few coupons online and went with an extremely reliable host who has a 99% up time guarantee. I can host an unlimited number of domains, unlimited emails, and unlimited data. With these emails it comes with a built in auto responder which could be very useful.

Website Setup - Next I installed wordpress on my domain and found a free responsive theme within BHW. If you are serious about your site I believe you must have a responsive theme. Next I did some more keyword research and found my main keyword I will be chasing along with 4 other keywords. Each keyword is less and less competitive because my main keyword has over 700,000 exact matches on google. Every keyword will be getting over 1000 searches a month though. (I will get into this later on when I start creating my webpages.)

*Tonight I plan on installing wordpress plugins and writing a couple articles so I will be prepared to start getting the ball rolling.*

    Final Update For Tonight

I have decided to go to fiverr and purchase a banner for the top of my website, hopefully it turns out well. Im also attempting to find a widget that places a yahoo answers like forum on one of my pages (I think this will be very vital to my site)

Good luck mate - I know you can do it.

    From my experience:

Just put in the effort, and in 6 months (but really 1 - 2 years from now) you will see a huge amount of income/success.

If you ever start feeling down, just take a day off, you're probably burnt out. Sometimes its better to take a break so you can come back refreshed, and you'll end up more motivated/energized than ever.

If you have a problem/question - reach out to your support circle. That could be your friends/acquaintences on skype, or even BHW... the information you need/want is always out there somewhere.

If you can't afford something, maybe you don't want to spend the money on a simple wordpress plugin or design fix on your site etc... do it yourself.

I can't count the number of times I've created a graphic, an email template, fixed a HTML/CSS problem on my site. I designed my own logo + most of my website, but I did start with a theme. I didn't have the money to invest/spend at the time, so I saved thousands just doing the work myself.

Also -- sometimes its a good idea to network and find people who can mentor/help you along your journey.

Every few months I tend to talk to a mentor of mine, about random SEO/or other internet marketing questions, and he always helps me come to a solid conclusion.

    Good luck!

    Brandon

Great game plan. You might also want to factor in some effort in building a community around your content.

    Update 2

Yesterday I finished setting up my website design and am now searching for which plugins/widgets I wish to install on my site. In the mean time I have now posted 6 articles, two on each page of my website that targets a specific keyword that I hope to rank. I have also include a Contact Us page and a page similar to yahoo answers. One of the main benefits to my yahoo answers page is they must register to ask a question. This will allow me to build a email list targeted towards my specific niche. (I will wait a while to send them any emails) I have also signed up for twitter and Facebook using my exact emd. Next i am going to create a privacy policy page and once I post 10 articles or so I will apply for an adsense account. Please remember never put all your profits in one basket. Meaning adsense will not be my only source of income on my site.

*Even though I have just created my website and have not done any link building, I haven't even pinged my site yet Google has already indexed my site..Very strange*

Thanks man, your support and input is greatly appreciated. I agree completely with all of your statements. I do have more money than posted if i need to invest in a certain item but in the mean time I am trying not to spend a bunch of money on a website that may never take off as this niche I am in is very competitive. Once I get enough content on my site I plan to try and write about the newest trends in my niche and make backlinks for my blog posts rather than my domains and sub domains. I will then hope they like my article and search through my posts eventually becoming a fan and supporter of my site.

    Update 3

Spending the night at my girlfriends house so I wont have time to do a lot of website updating. I did manage to post 3 more articles one on each subdomain and I also posted 5 questions on my question and answer forum page then answered them myself. Tomorrow I plan on working on a static homepage. I have some really good ideas for this homepage and will explain my ideas tomorrow.

    Update 4

Today I posted another 3 articles, one under each page. I have also installed a few plugins for my site:

    All in One SEO Pack

    Link Cloaking
    Google XML Sitemap
    WP Sitemap Page
    Broken Link Checker
    Contact Form 7
    Contextual Related Posts
    W3 Total Cache
    Breadcrumb NavXT
    Sociable
    BackWPup Free

Credit goes to this thread for giving me the idea to install these:
    http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackh...ate-authority-site-solid-site-foundation.html

Next I have started on my static homepage which will be directed towards my main keyword which is also included in my domain name for easier rankings. Each one of my subdomains (also a keyword) will have a direct link within this homepage. I have hired someone on fiverr to create me a testimonial video for my site to use at the bottom of my webpage as I believe this will give my website more credibility.

One of my main goals is to get accepted into adsense next week. Some tips I have for that are:

    - Articles:
Minimum of 15 original (non spun) articles.

    - Privacy Policy Page :
One of the common mistakes that every Blogger makes and that I made many times before finally getting approved. Even though there are people out there who say that having a Privacy Policy for a Blog doesn't makes sense but they are wrong.

A Privacy actually describes to your readers about what they will get on your Blog , what they should do and what they should not. So obviously there is nothing bad in having a Privacy Policy. While it can affect somehow on your Adsense Approval, you must give it a try. You can write it yourself or find Privacy Policy Generators online (You don't need a lawyer anyway).

    - About Page:
An about page has a major role and importance if you don't want to apply for Adsense. But when it comes to Adsense, they are about Zero chances of getting approved if you are not showing this page.About page simply describes about you and your Blog . This will not only help you establish a relationship with readers but it will also make them trust upon you.

    - Contact Us Page:

It's quite obvious that everyone has his/her own opinion. What one of your readers likes may be bothering someone else. Than it is better to give them opportunity to speak up to you and tell how they feel about your Blog, what they want to be edited , what they liked or hated. It will also show the Google Adsense Team that is viewing your site that you actually care about your readers.

    - Name/ Email Verification:

Make sure to put you Name and Email address in some easily visible area like About Me and Contact Us pages. It will confirm to Google Adsense Team that it is the same person who applied for Adsense and not some spam, crappy bots.

    - Providing Value

Don't complain about not making money and don't clearly state that your are blogging for money only and have no other interest in it. Because this will show them that you will not be providing values to your readers any day. Hence another Red Light.

    (Followed this advice from allbloggingtips.com)

This is a great thread, thanks so much for starting! Just have a few questions which I hope you'll answer.
    1) Have you worked on this kind of website before? You seem really confident in your game plan.
    2) What kind of content are you planning on putting on your site? Reviews of products related to your niche or general articles about the niche?

I'm trying to do the very same thing as you in this thread and I'm really looking forward to learning stuff from this. I do have one request: As you post updates along the way, could you please make it as newb friendly as possible? I've followed threads like this before and usually drop off because I feel lost halfway through. :) Thanks again!
