Hello everyone!

I’m just a boring 21 year old guy from India, who’s good at writing stuff.

Past Experiences

This isn’t my first time taking a shot at freelancing.

Back in 2014-15, I made those shitty whiteboard videos on Fiverr but gave it up as It was too
much work for such poor pay.

Afterwards, I did some dropshipping using some of the money I had saved/borrowed. And
tried my hand at affiliate marketing, with little successes along the way but failing at both as a whole.

Then got into college, became lazy and my zeal of making money online died.

Well college’s almost over and I don’t wanna drive a tuk-tuk for my bread (there’s nothing wrong with that, tho!).

That’s why I’m looking to get back into IM.

My Goals & Why Am I Doing This.

My goal is to get to $300 per month before Apr 2021.

I'm doing this to save up some seed money for bigger projects. And journalizing my endeavors to get motivation
and a sense of accountability.

Discussing my experiences while getting tips from people who're not trying to sell me shit, would be a plus as well lol

What Have I Done Already?

a. I’ve signed up on Fiverr, and gotten myself accepted on Upwork.

b. Made an attractive profile on both the platforms. And created a basic “I will write” gig on Fiverr.

c. Placed some bids on Upwork, but got interviewed just once, that too for 0.01 cents per word.

So, basically I’m at a big, fat zero right now.

Next Steps
  • Expanding my portfolio.
  • Find a source of external traffic for initial sales, so the algo’s rank my gigs organically.
  • Looking into other venues for work. (facebook groups, job boards, etc)

My Concerns/Struggles
  • Selecting a viable niche.
  • Lack of experience to show off.
  • Traffic’s another thing that’s bugging me.

Thoughts? And Got Any Tips For Me?

I think I need to focus on a single platform rather than juggling both Fiverr and Upwork. What do the OGs on here
think? What platform should I focus on, Upwork or Fiverr?

Also, what makes an Upwork or Fiverr profile actually good?

That’s it for now.

Now, there’s this famous blessing we’ve got in Hindi, which is “Bhagwan aapko 6-jodi bacche den”, roughly
translating to, “May the Gods grant you 6 pairs of kids”.

So, if you read till here, Bhagwan aapko 6-jodi bacche den

Lastly, I’d really appreciate it if you could share your thoughts or any quality tips/tricks you’ve got.

Good luck to you:) I hope you will achieve more than that :)

I'm also 21, my last year in University. Started Fiverr 3 months ago. Made $150 the first month, then $300. this month, i haven't made any sales but i managed to get one client off the Fiverr platform and make roughly $50 a week from writing for him.

For Fiverr, the trick is creating gigs that are very specific.. not too specific but specific enough for someone to search, yields high conversions...

Also, don't buy reviews, just sound extremely confident in your gig description in that specific niche your targeting.
The goal is to get your first 5 clients to leave a good review then increase price slowly.

I haven't been able to hop into upwork due to my side projects.

PS: Invest the money you make from freelancing into something that yields monthly revenue like a business, freelancing won't sustain you. I personally don't spend from Fiverr money, i spend from my monthly returns

but i managed to get one client off the Fiverr platform
How exactly did you do this? Isn't billing people off Fiverr against their TOS?

So, e.g. rather than calling myself a business writer, I should target, lets say, tech businesses? Can you give me an example?

That's exactly what I'm planning to do in long-term.

BTW, thank you for your comment.

Well, i'll give you my exact technique... This only works if you offer content creation services... I wrote close to 12 articles for the client and it became a long term thing so instead of allowing fiverr take %20 and delay my payments, I google searched a part of the content and found the client's blog.

Then sent an email explaining why I wanted to work directly, the client was even happier because they wouldn't have to pay fiverr extra fees as well. In the end, we started working independently using a Project management tool. Asana... You just have to be careful, Fiverr TOS is not contacting buyers via their chat but nothing about finding client in real life... They don't have control over that...

Another proven way is letting the Client send you Direct contact details then replying with a strong rejection and deleting the message thread. Then you contact them ... Fiverr team will read the chat but you'd be safe from ban...

For the Gig suggestion.. It works like this: let's say your into Writing, don't just go and add a gig with title *I will write for your blog*...

Be specific *I will write Articles about American History*, *I will write articles about Electrical Installations* .... You get the point... You will find hundreds of specifics with no competition.. That's my secret and now you have it...

And Goodluck with the investments... Invest your money into Agricultural Projects with %12 - %25 annual yields, Open an Account with FBS and invest $100 in copy trading... A lot of things you can invest in, don't be scared... And don't spend fiverr money

Quick one, which kon3 is your fiverr based in.

Where me and you are from... ;)

Omor. I used our second kon3 (Canada), with a ladies profile, things were going smoothly, I was raking in cash then shit happened. I guess I'll give the mother-land a try again, last I did it didn't go well. Tanchu!

Have you tried other content mills like iWriter where you could get a bit of an easier ride?
As long as you are ready to write and can folow what is asked with good quality, its not too bad as a start.
Probably easier than other places.

Please cam

Please can you guide me on how to go with iwriter?

Go to iwriter dot com (I do not want to drop links here and get in trouble so just sort out the dot :) ), register as a writer and read through their short rules.

It is pretty straight forward and you can pretty much start straight away as there are not too many barriers to entry.
Keep in mind that this site - and those I list below - is a 'content mill' and you will not be paid what you are truly worth, but its a pretty good way to get started, get experience and improve your style.

Other places to look are:
hirewriters dot com
constant-content dot com
peopleperhour dot com (Payoneer friendly)

Hint: You may need a 'friend' with a PayPal account if you are not able to sign in with Payoneer at some sites.

There are a lot of people starting to write these days so competition is very strong now - you will need to persevere, but do not let that fire in your belly die. Keep looking and keep hustling. If you are hungry you will eat! How hungry are you?

*I am not affiliated or 'friendly' with any sites mentioned here - just the way I started doing things when I was living in a third world country and US$1 was a lot of money.

Small tip - always use a 'user name' which looks and sounds as it it is from Canada, USA or UK ;) As said above - your 'other' country...

What 'groundboy' says is very true. Do not give up...
You can also checkout jobboard at problogger. Your goal is very realistic and achievable.

At the beginning, you should not even ignore the 0.01/100 words offer as you will earn some extra money plus you will get a review.

Yes, I have looked into content marketplaces like Constant-Content but decided against them cause I don't wanna write shit and wait for buyers. Are they any good? And are they easier to get into compared to Fiverr/Upwork?

The guy asked me to write free samples, and was just fucking around, that's why I refused him.

And what about earnings, payoneer?

Your goal is easily achievable. I suggest you put all your efforts into Upwork first. Fiverr is about getting discovered and it's not going to be easy.

Once you got a few projects done on Upwork and get full five star ratings, you'll start getting job invites from clients (you don't have to spend on connects for these jobs). After a year of hustling on Upwork, I currently get 2-5 job invites daily.

Also, your niche is super saturated. But there are ways around it. Some high paying jobs are nothing but a different description of a low paying job. Example: atleast on Upwork, a "Consultant" is nothing but a "Virtual Assistant" who speaks/writes fancier English and is bolder than most virtual assistants. Consultants make $30 to 100 an hour while virtual assistants make $2 to 10.

So in your case, maybe you should bid on projects that involve "Write a Press Release" or "Sales Copy" or anything that's more specific than generic content writing.

Anyway, be prepared to work for peanuts to get your first 3-5 reviews and slowly increase your rates from there. If you're consistently bidding on 10 to 20 jobs daily, without worrying about the slow rate of success initially, in 4-6 months you'd easily be making $600 to $1200 on Upwork.

All the best. Ayushman Bhava. Sada Sexy Raho.
