Chapter One -- The Journey Begins

So I've had my fair share of luck with short-term high profit projects, but I'm pretty much done with that and am really itching to move onto something more long-term and stable. My most recent project brought in about $13,000 after just a couple of months, which was great, but now I'm getting less than $200 a week from it just a month later (which I'm still happy about, but it's not the kind of money I want to be making). I know this will continue to dwindle down into nothing, so I'm going to take this time where I'm still getting moderate passive income, to start launching a new project that will hopefully bring in some more passive income for a longer period of time.

My first project in this journey (which I hope to be a long and successful one), is going to be an Adsense site. I've never really tried to make a site like this before, but my main focus is going to be lots of content that people will actually want to look at. I've tried so many times to get people to some sort of sales page, and though I've been moderately successful, I'd be much happier if I could just write about things I want to write about and still make money. I'll be exploring other options other than Adsense further down the road, but I'm confident I can make a decent amount off of that alone. More than likely I'll be uploading youtube videos that coincide with my articles, and using ads on the videos as well.

I'm really not too good with SEO, but I believe my strategy is going to work well even with minimal SEO. If i see a solid opportunity, I won't be afraid to capitalize on it even if it means purchasing some SEO services here at BHW. However, one of my goals with this first project is going to be to minimalize expenses as much as possible. I have wasted a lot of money over the years on what I planned to big huge projects, and most of the time they fail quickly. I want to show myself how much I can earn without investing hardly anything, and hopefully I'll be satisfied with the results. Hosting was acquired prior to starting this, and I got my domain for $2, so I'm doing pretty good so far! My main source of traffic is going to be a site similar to mine that accepts article submissions, this is going to give me a high amount of targeted traffic for free, and I've seen it work before.

As of right now, I've got a few posts on my site, and am just waiting to post more. I plan on putting up 2-3 posts per day, sharing them on Facebook/Twitter/Related Niche site, and possibly created a video for one of the posts every day as well. I'll stick to this routine for a week or two and see what happens, it shouldn't be more than a couple of hours of work per day, and worst case scenario I end up with a niche site that has a decent amount of content that I can probably just sell and use the money to invest in a new project. That's not what I'm hoping for, but it's a fallback to assure myself I'm not completely wasting my time.

    Highlights:
    • Starting niche site
    • Posting 2-3 times/day
    • Sharing each post on social media + a related niche site that accepts article submissions and delivers decent quality traffic
    • Possibly creating a video related to one of my posts daily
    • Minimalizing expenses/SEO in whatever ways possible and seeing how much can be earned through good content and minor exposure alone

Well, it's late and I feel like I'm ramble-typing, so I'll end the first journey log here.

    Stay tuned.

    • Thanks Thanks x 2

Always build a list, you will miss out on extreme profit if you don't.

I agree with WoozyBluff and I always wonder why so many people put all this time and effort into building sites and don't use them to also get email addresses for ongoing marketing. I'm also not sure why you picked adsense as your way of making "long-term and stable" money. Given how trigger happy Google is about shutting down accounts, I would never consider it stable.

Regardless, you might want to read through the OPs posts in this thread. One of the things you'll notice is that he spent a boat load of time figuring out his keywords in order to get the traffic he would need. It's painful to go through and just find his posts, but it's well worth it.. Hope it helps you out.

I do plan to implement something to gather e-mails from my visitors as well, but it's not really my main focus with this particular website/niche. Going off-topic a bit, I do have something that is getting me e-mails a few highly targeted e-mails on a daily basis (I'm at about 250 right now). I just have never really had much luck with e-mail marketing and I'm not really making it my main focus right now.

My journey certainly won't end with this adsense site either -- this is just going to be my first documented "experiment" of the journey. I really want to finish several different projects that turn into an auto-pilot income, and I think the easiest for me is going to be this adsense site. Once I'm either satisfied or I think there's no point in giving it any more work, I'll move on to the next project (which could be setting up squeeze pages for mailing lists).

I do appreciate the input though, I am reading through that thread now and I can tell this is going to be helpful. Thanks!
