The goal of this journey is to track my efforts in growing a domain to an authority site in a pretty competitive niche that can potentially be very profitable in the long term. Unfortunately, this is not a journey from day zero as I started publishing content on the domain in late July 2019 before submitting it to Google on the 1st August 2019. I am planning on focusing on it exclusively for 2020 and beyond provided the Google update gods are good to me.

    Analytics

    Income

The domain made $896.82 on Amazon.com last month as well as some income on the other Amazon geos as well as adsense. Due to the holidays, I doubt that it will be making that much for a few months until traffic grows enough to compensate. I am also trying to diversify into eBay as well as a few other affiliate programs as well as Skillshare. Due to the niche, I doubt Skillshare will convert much but plan to test it for the rest of the month as a sidebar ad to see how it goes.

    Backlinks

I have been doing some backlinking on this domain that includes guest posts, niche edits, forum posts, and web 2.0s. I have done around half of the guest post work myself to date but will be outsourcing it come next month or the month after as it takes so much time. The main thing that I am focusing on for backlinks for this domain is that they are manually created with human wrote content. It currently has 579 domains showing in webmaster tools.

    SERPs

Due to the age of the site, it would seem more and more of its pages are leaving the sandbox and climbing up the Google SERPs. Right now it has 47 pages in the top 3 and 86 pages in the top 10 for their primary keywords. This has been steadily increasing over the last two weeks so I am curious if it will keep increasing at its current pace.

    Wordcount

I know the main sub-niche for the domain pretty well so I have been able to quickly publish a ton of content over the last few months for it. Provided the domain does not get slapped by Google in 2020, I am planning to try and publish 1,000,000 words of new content to it over the course of the year. I am also planning on expanding the domain into other sub-niches within its parent niche, I know some of them well but others will need a fair amount of research.

Good luck with this. Letting the site settle before monetising is a good way and it looks like the Sandbox isn't an issue.
1m words of content is going some.

    Cheers :).

Nice, are you going for 1,000,000 words of content too?

Nah this is a new one started in late July 2019. The one I was vlogging about is the analytics below, it was hit by Florida 2 and an update in September 2019 but the update in November 2019 seems to have recovered it and it made over $1000 last month.

    Cheers dude.

I have been involved in the niche since around 2015 so I know a fair amount about it without having to do much research so I can sit down and knock out an article pretty quickly for most of the keywords I have published content for so far. That said though, I have plans for a few sub-niches on the domain that I will have to spend time researching so will probably slow the content pace down a bit.

Cheers dude, glad to have you along again :).

    Cheers dude.

$3758.30 to date but I haven't taken notes on my outgoings for each month so not 100% sure on how that looks but a fair bit of that spend is over the last few weeks. For example, I ordered some niche edits a day or so ago and I am waiting for some cash to clear in my account before I order a few more so the spend will increase. I will post in the daily updates about any additional spends though.

Cheers dude, you have to remember that it was December last month though with Cyber Monday and Christmas, I am not expecting $800 this month from this domain alone. It started earning money after a few weeks but this has not been the norm for me with my other sites, I started typing up the content in the last week of July and then had Google crawl it on 1st August and income started a few weeks after that. The screenshot below is its income to date.

I understand. But when did you buy this domain? You just published the first article in the last week of July and start earning money on Aug. :(

    Update 1
    • Published two money site articles, one is 2430 words and the other is 2297 words.
    • I prepped an article for tomorrow but it needed some more research and took a fair bit longer than I thought it would to set up, it might need more research tomorrow too.
    • I done a bunch of guest post outreach prior to Christmas and heard back from one of the webmasters today. They gave me the specs for the article they wanted so I typed it up and sent the first draft to them.
    • Added more eBay affiliate links to some of the articles that don't really fit the Amazon program. Over the coming days, I will scale the eBay affiliate links up on the domain.
    • I changed the graphic on the domains sidebar to a custom niche relevant graphic to try and push traffic to Skillshare. Not sure if Skillshare will convert in this niche but I plan to try it out for the next few weeks to see how it goes.
    • Signed up for the Amazon.au affiliate program. I need to push three sales to them within 120 days to be accepted but around 10% of my traffic is Australian so I should be able to do it. I tried to sign up for the Indian Amazon affiliate program too but it seems that you have to live in India to get approved.
    • I checked the leading brands in this niche for their own affiliate programs but all but one offer the same commissions as Amazon or lower. I reached out to the one brand that offers 8% commission about joining their program but not sure how it would convert.
    • I checked my rank tracker project for the high search volume keywords for the domain and over the last few days an 8100 global search volume page has jumped onto the second page. From now on I will be pushing my backlinking towards this page to try and get it into the top 3.

I purchased the domain the day before I started publishing content on it if I remember correctly. It was a fresh domain too, no prior use or backlinks to it or anything like that.

    $3758.30 so far.

I have done this for the last few domains that I have built, I don't really do smaller sites anymore like I used to.

    Cheers dude.

I think I started link building in mid August but I have used a few link building services on the domain too.

    Shaun,

What is the breakdown of your traffic sources? All search engine / mostly social media, etc ?
It looks like you get a lot of Amazon sales but little adsense income. Why bother with adsense at all in that case as it takes away possible sales?
    Whats your link building strategy?

BTW you are a beast - very nice work.
