    Introduction:

My name is Alex. I've been a lurker on this forum for quite awhile. I'm creating this journey as a place to share my experiences as a newbie in creating an authority site. I figured what better way to stay on track and motivated than to share my experience. I'll sort of treat this as a journal of my progress to keep me from not quitting! I have made a decent amount of income online before when I was a teen in high school except I've never really created a large authority site like the one I am planning on creating. I stopped after awhile because I needed to focus more on school and have a social life. Now I am a first year in college looking to make some extra income because that college tuition isn't going to pay itself! I have tried to get back to internet marketing in the past after my hiatus, however, like many, I tend to lose interest after I initially set up my website and see no immediate progress. And who knows, maybe this journey will be yet another journey that gets abandoned after the third week. But, right now, I feel motivated to keep this going and make some money. I've come into this website with a different mindset and a much bigger motivation to create something great. The cost of tuition for college isn't a burden that I want my parents to have, so I'm hoping to eventually make at least something to help out.

So as a full-time student, school obviously comes first. I'm currently taking summer school and I'm taking many units. I'm also volunteering at a hospital and a lab assistant. Therefore, I do not have a lot of time to invest per day on this website and thus, I expect the progression of the site to be slow. I will try my best to make progress on the site as fast as possible. Best thing one can have is a good outlook no matter the difficulties that may lay ahead.

Due to the fact that I am paying for summer school, I do not plan on investing much money in this website because summer school costs already burnt a hole in my wallet, so I am relying on free methods of traffic. However, I may spend a little bit of money on certain things which I will update if I ever do.

So here is a little look at a newbie's journey to creating an affiliate site.

    My Current Goals:

    In terms of income:
    - First Sale on New Website []
    - First $100 []- $500/month []
    - $1000/month []

    For the website:
    - Have 100 articles posted []
    - Rank 1st keyword to top 10 []
    - Rank 10 keywords []
    - Write engaging eBook (future) []
    - Eventually become an authority website []

What I Have Done So Far:

I have purchased my domain and hosting. I've installed a premium wordpress theme with a few of the usual plugins such as w3 total cache, yoast SEO, and such. All of my social media accounts are created, however I'm not too sure how much time I'm going to be spending with social media traffic at the moment. I want to focus more on SEO, but social media is definitely something I will look into in the future. As of right now, I have eight articles posted on the website. A few of them are around 500 words. Most are over 1000 words though.

For the next week, I plan on doing some keyword research then writing 5 or so more articles, two of them being reviews and three of them will be supporting articles. After doing so, then I will start planning my off-site seo.

    Sure, add me: alex.nhieu

I don't have much experience with SEO. My knowledge is limited to what I've read online. This is my first time actually implementing something like this. My previous sources of income was more of a content creation business but I decided to give making an actual website a try, so we shall see how it goes.

    Day 1:
Today is the official start of my journey. It's also the day of my exams for my summer classes, so I didn't get much done today. However, I did finish keyword research. I have around 50 or so keywords that I'm planning on targeting. I've written one article so far (haven't posted it yet). But since it's exam time, not much time to write! I might write another article tonight if I have time. I currently have 8 articles posted on my website except none of these have good keywords that are being targeted because I didn't do proper keyword research. These new articles I plan on writing will be properly researched.

Sounds good. How many words will your article be? And, subbed :)

Great, sounds like a decent plan, although SEO might not be very suitable traffic source at first, unless you find some really low decent keywords to rank for.

Do you have any other traffic strategy?

Also, do you mind telling us what niche you're into so we can get better perspective of things and maybe even help you out.

I do have other methods that I may implement. However, I like the idea of SEO because its more passive than other traffic methods which require constant updating/work. Although, I will definitely implement other traffic stategies done the road because I know better than to rely solely on one version of traffic. I'm not looking for any quick methods though. This is going to be a long term project and hopefully a successful one at that. The niche that I'm in is a rather broad one. That way should I chose to expand, I have the ability to promote a wide variety of products instead of limiting myself to certain types of products. With that being said, my niche is in the health related field, but I am focusing on very low comp keywords for the moment before I tackle anything harder.

The bulk of my articles are around 1000-2000 words. For lower search volume keywords, I do around 500-1k words per article.

    Update:
Not much progress on my website was made as I've had to focus on school work.
I've had some clicks from my adsense ads. It's not much, but I didn't expect anything considering I haven't really done much except post articles.
I purchased some articles from the marketplace, however, of course I get what I pay for. I was expecting at least something pretty readable for article that was above $1 per 100 words. However, they were shitty. Very obvious that a non-native speaker wrote it, so I edited them. I basically just wrote the articles from scratch and left like 5% of it original.

    Articles Posted: 11 (+3)
    Earnings From Adsense: $0.75 (+0.75)
    Sales: 0

Keep going m8 :) And, yes you do get what you pay for. At least it's kind of a spring board though. I find it helps me get started if I've a bunch of outsourced articles to rewrite, rather than sitting there with a blank page.
