[Journey] Building a Large Authority Site by 2024

Yeah that's just crazy. Let's just hope it calms down and nothing bad happens haha. How's your site doing?
Well, it goes slow but according to the plan so far. I think I have similar results to yours, I don't see this volatility though. I think I will reach my initial goal of 40k unique visitors per month by the end of the year. I am just having problems with monetization, display ads is something new for me, I used to work with gambling affiliates only where I mastered conversion rates. Here, I am struggling with very low RPM, still with Adsense, I don't know where to place these ads so the site looks nice but make people click it.. in general - disaster so far :/

What tools do you use for keyword research?
I'm currently using Ubersuggest, the $29/mo plan. Not doing a lot of advanced keyword research so don't need Ahrefs or Semrush at the moment, however, I did try the Semrush 30-day trial earlier. I also get a lot of keywords from flippa and motioninvest to be honest.

Looking good! My traffic still has not recovered, hovering between 250-300/day now at least. What RPMs do you get from AdSense? I'm not sure about Ezoic any more, a lot of bad news surrounding them lately and some bloggers even moving back to AdSense.

Ezoic was good for the first few months. Leveled up and got invited to their premium program, but now the site feels slower. My revenue is also not updating daily as it used to. No idea what's going on but maybe my rankings would be better on AdSense. Too bad mediavine requires 50k sessions to join.

In recent days, there has been a delay in their updates, which I previously thought was strange. But now you can see the latest revenue. I also want to join Mediavine, but the traffic is not enough.

Revenue from AdSense I had was around $1.8. Maybe even less. 3 days ago I switched to Ezoic, where the EPMV is already $6.05 based od 2 days data. I am not sure how they measure this, because there is a huge difference in traffic according to Ezoic vs Google. Google shows less pageview, so if I count revenue from Ezoic vs traffic from Google, the EMPV is 20% lower. According to what people say about my niche, the AVG EPMV here is $12-18. I am not gonna have it so high due to the fact that I place all adds manually, all of them below the fold, no sticky bars, one format only, so it will be great to have it on the level of $9-10. From what I see, there is a huge difference in adds clicking on mobile vs desktop ($4 vs $12). Definitely I need to work on the 1st one.

From what I see and observe in other's statistics, working with low competition KW (0-10) many times do not generate this spectacular hockey stick effect. Yesterday I analyzed data from PhilReddit7 and this confirms my theory that it is no longer as it used to be 3-5 years ago. Consistent article posting (no link building) very often generates more like linear increase in traffic rather than hockey stick effect so maybe you can keep writing 1 article per day till the end of the year? I think you mentioned some time ago you considered doing it? I am sure you will double the traffic withing 3 months from now by doing this.

Have you tried Ezoic?

Have you tried Ezoic?
yes, actually I just explained that above. it is much better, still not perfect but better. I am looking for a solution for mobile devices on how to make these ads float for a second or two. I see people having this effect implemented via mediavive (i think) but I believe thanks to some wp widget we can have the same effect with ezoic. If someone knows the solution - please share. I am thinking about these larger containers in which ad is 'trapped' and float for a second before it touches the bottom edge while scrolling.

Hi
What is going on? Any updates?

Today I decided to stop Ezoic and go back to AdSense. The DNS changes are not final yet, will probably have a drop in traffic today but should be back to normal tomorrow.

The reason why I decided to switch is because today I noticed I get a lot of origin errors, which seems to be a common problem with Ezoic. My EPMV was around $10-11, we'll have to see what my RPM will be with AdSense but even if it's lower I have to think about my website. This all started when I joined Ezoic premium so could be something related to that, not sure.

After reading this thread I've decided to try getting my site on Google discover.

What do you think of AdSense's payment method? I found that its payment method is not as extensive as Ezoic, It's not that convenient to use.
I have an article that appears in Discover, but it only has about 10 clicks per day, which is strange.

I agree, adsense is unable to pay me in USD which sucks. But I'm hoping I will be able to build up my traffic so I then can join other ad companies. I'm open for suggestions.

What do you mean by 'origin errors'?

Did you contact Ezoic customer support to resolve the problems?

It's some bug that is exclusive to Ezoic, the page won't load and it just says "Origin Error" in the upper left corner. Something about the Ezoic IP being recognized as bots by most hosting companies, so you have to whitelist like 50 domains and hope it works, couldn't get the whitelist to work on my host unfortunately.

My guess is that this error, if it occurs a lot, will make rankings in Google drop pretty quickly.

No, I don't want to deal with that right now. I just want to get my site running smoothly as quick as possible, might talk to them later and see if I can get it sorted.

Accidently I came across this video, this guy mentioned the errors and lot of other things that made him leave ezoic:

Thanks for the share. I still think Ezoic is a good alternative to AdSense, as you get slightly higher RPM. It's a shame all the other companies require so much traffic to get accepted.

This is an awesome journey, I've just finished reading from start to finish.

Really motivating as I've just started back into IM and started a couple of sites a few weeks ago and already frustrated at the lack of progress :weep:

In the past I have purchased existing sites that already have had traffic and income, this time starting fresh and sticking to it is going to be the hard part for me. Unfortunately I don't currently have several thousand to buy an existing site so a brand new site I have to start from scratch is my only option.
