Man, I had to dig through the thread all over again to find this but I knew it was here somewhere.

They make money from advertising by schools and Google but exactly how is well hidden. I used "view source" and "inspect" but I couldn't find any explicit affiliate, CPA or ad links. I could see references to doubleclick.net, which is Google's ad platform but I couldn't figure out how their forms interacted with their advertisers. The ToS page says some schools are paying advertisers and others are listed for free.

The company that runs the site is Project 8 Labs LLC who specialize in Education and Career: "The people of Project 8 Labs work collaboratively to develop and maintain a portfolio of free career and education websites".

My guess is their advertising and sponsorship deals are run through the main company and all the various websites they run feed back to their in-house marketing and advertising contracts.

I googled for other sites and found some educational affiliate programs. Most are for online course sites like Udemy. But elearners.com has an affiliate program sharing revenue from the online accredited programs they work with. You need to submit an inquiry to get details. There is an affiliate program link in the footer.

Do you know which is more profitable : Udemy or YouTube? I have been playing with the idea of teaching radiology anatomy online and figured my Youtube channel would be the platform but maybe Udemy pays better?

Etsy is still going pretty strong ( I think) so the law of numbers says I should get some sales given the steady increase in traffic...

Experiment #998 - you guys will love this...

Since I'm running for City Council, I have been doing a couple of daily videos on our little town Facebook page to kind of day who I am and what I stand for.

In yesterday's video, I talked about being pro- small business and pro- home business. I had my niche mirrored on my big screen TV behind me and casually mentioned how "One way you can work for yourself is by sharing what you know on a website, " then I showed my niche.

I said " I'd like to work with City Council to help people make their own income by teaching classes in the community on how to set up a blog."

Even if I don't win the election, I have now paved the way to offer How To classes to the conmunity. These can be monetized several ways.

Sooner or later, one of these ideas is going to make me wealthy...

Right around the 24 hour mark on the new Etsy store. Traffic seems decent. Just waiting for my first sale:

I don't have a membership to Income School bro. I'm on the outside looking in at this point. I never had one. I bought their Acabado theme and they gave me access to their paid membership forum because they put the Acabado forum in the same place as the Project 24 forums. Once they realized I wasn't a full member, some P24 members complained and I was outted. But I got a good look around for about a month before they booted me. I had zero access to the webinars. They are stored somewhere else.

Okay, I'm sure I'm the last to the party when it comes to "landing pages." I've only read about them and never really needed one. Well, I decided to try one for my Etsy stuff.

So, to catch everyone up, I opened an Etsy store yesterday at the prompting of @RRunner. I've been whining for a while about how I haven't been able to figure out an "eProduct" to sell. Income School preaches to make sure you have more than one income stream. Don't rely on ads alone to make your income. Like Adsense, man, what a waste of time those things can be. At least when you have low volumes anyway. And eProducts are something Income School has a history of making money with, like eBooks.

So, RRunner pointed out that lots of people are making bank with Print on Demand stuff. That's nothing new really. That's stuff has been around for decades. I used to make my own shirts on Cafe Press back when they first came out. Another good one is ArtsCow but they take a while to deliver from China. You can make cool custom Vans there.

Anyway, one of my main pulls for inorganic traffic has been my memes that I create. I've written about that plenty so don't need to rehash it here. But I've wondered a few times if I could put that stuff on a shirt or something. Then RRunner's recommendation brought it to the surface again.

So at first, I looked for a plugin that was compatible with Word Press. What I found was that you basically had to have Woo Commerce installed and then install another POD plugin on top of that. It sounded like a lot of configuration to me so I kept looking. Turns out, Printify integrates seamlessly with Etsy. I just closed an old Etsy store about a week ago because I didn't think I would ever use it again and it was just sitting there giving me a spam headache.

It took all of ten minutes to set up an Etsy store again. And about that long to set up a Printify account. From there, you just create your products just like every other Tom, Dick and Harry print shop.

Knowing that I had a lot of memes that I created, there should be no copyright issues if I use them on coffee mugs, tshirts, whatever. So, here's what I did:

Step 1: Looked at the top-selling items on Printify
Step 2: Picked an "evergreen" item... coffee mugs. Even people who don't drink hot beverages (like me, I don't drink coffee or tea) still have them and put pens and crap in them.
Step 3: Upload my memes on the coffee mugs. Printify has a four-step process to "create" an item.
Step 4: During the account set up, select to integrate the Printify account with the Etsy account. Then, at this step, "publish" your created item to your Etsy store.
Step 5: Check your costs (wholesale) and the shipping costs from Printify on the item you are selling.
Step 6: Set your prices to include more than your wholesale cost and shipping. (but check this because I noticed my first customer paid my cost + shipping)
Step 7: I set my mugs to make about $6-7 each, after shipping (but customer pays shipping so...)
Step 8: When a customer buys an item, be patient. It will automatically get pushed from Etsy to Printify. They do ALL the work. You do have to push a button on the Printify side to push the order through but then Printify does everything. They bill you when the production starts on the item. So you have to have a credit card on file. Collecting your money from Etsy is a process that I haven't done yet.
Step 9: Watch your order (if you want to) go through the Printify process: Processing, Quality Control, Accepted, In Production... and that's all I've seen so far.

Looks pretty simple so far. I haven't spent too much time on the billing yet. Not sure if I'm getting charged a monthly per-item fee yet like eBay used to do when you listed with them. I'm hoping there's no fee until an item sells but again, I haven't checked this out yet.

I put about 32 items out there. All coffee mugs except one. Here's the part you'll like AND what got me a sale in a little over 24 hours.

So, in my field of radiology, obviously, we take Xrays. Sometimes we take Xrays of a guy's pelvis and you can see his jimmy. Well, a Throckmorton's Sign is what we jokingly refer to when jimmy is pointing towards an area of pain. I shit you not. Look it up. Anyway, there a quasi-famous Xray image of a guy and his jimmy pointing to the patient's left leg with a quote that says "Which leg hurts?" and variations of the same joke.

    John_Thomas_sign.jpg

Well... as I was scrolling through the Best Seller list on Printify, up pops men's briefs. I instantly thought of the Throckmorton xray. Don't judge, I'm medical. Our brains don't function like normal people.

So, the Throckmorton Briefs were born:

    Front 1.png

including the back view. And if you look dead center, the little black circles are pocket of gas...ie., farts. Or UBFs as we call them. Un-Born Farts.

    Back 1.png

So, I made these things and couldn't stop laughing for like 30 minutes. People won't buy these, I would say to myself. This is too far over the line, I murmured. It took me a full day before I decided to drop them on facebook.

So I plopped 'em on the biggest facebook group for rad techs as a tester. You know me and my experiments. Well, it exploded with thumbs up and LOLs.

So I dropped it in all the other FB groups. Each post linked to my Etsy store. My FB notification hasn't stopped going off yet.

So you're thinking, Ron, what the hell happened to the landing page you started this story with?! Right.

It was at this time that I realized I was missing out on all the benefits of having this traffic hit my niche first. I had it all going to my Etsy store. So, with the help of Canva, I made an infographic for the briefs and posted it on a niche page. Then I went back to all the FB groups and changed the links to go to my Briefs Page. On that page, I posted my infographic and linked the infographic to my Etsy store. I probably missed out on 800 or more page views due to this lack of foresight. But I had no idea how this would turn out.

So, now it's all in place. I shot an image of the briefs over to Pinterest. People have been sharing the hell out of it on FB. I posted a quickie on Reddit just in case. Not going near LinkedIn with a ten-foot pole on this one. Way too stuffy over there for this kind of humor.

I'll keep you posted. Here's the infographic (took maybe 15 minutes to make, you should try it):

    Infographic Rad Tech Briefs.png

I should have some hours tomorrow to play around. Maybe I should consider placing images of all my Etsy items on my niche site and letting people look around at items on my site. it's a waste of traffic to let people wander around on Etsy. But I don't want to miss sales by wearing out their interest on my site either. I'll have to think on this one. I pulled them back to my niche with the infographic partly because I felt like the graphic could upsell the briefs with some humor.

Guess we'll see. Still only have one sale but it's 1:30am so most normal people are sleeping...not typing stuff up on BHW...

    But wait, there's more!

I forgot to mention that I ran some tester ads on Facebook but not with the briefs. I targeted only people how had "shown interest in radiologic technologists" and included my coffee mugs. I chose the most popular meme based on my stat counter reports. So, that is generating some traffic straight to my Etsy store too. But I only set the daily spend at $10 for three days to experiment.

    Okay, now I'm done.

Man, you keep inspiring and makes me feel I should be doing more. I am particularly impressed with your verticals. You keep spreading in many related areas. You keep giving me ideas.

I want to do so much more but feel like there are only so many hours in the day. Maybe I am trying to do many things at the same time.

Wish you all the best and success in all your endeavors.

    Thanks,

    Thank you for the compliment.

Let's talk about Time Management. It's the key to your success in any area.

Have you ever felt you’ve gone as far as you can with what you now know? Whether you picked a niche you already knew or picked a new-to-you topic, you have to keep learning.

Any progress you make from this moment onward will require that you learn and practice something new.

Commit to Continuous Learning About Your Niche
One quality of successful bloggers and high achievers in SEO seems to be a commitment to ongoing personal and professional development. They look upon themselves as self-made people, as "works in progress." They never become complacent or satisfied. They are always striving toward ever-greater heights of knowledge and understanding.

Become a National Expert in your Niche in 5 Years
Earl Nightingale said many years ago that one hour per day of study in your chosen field was all it takes. One hour per day of study will put you at the top of your field within three years. Within five years you’ll be a national authority. In seven years, you can be one of the best people in the world in your niche.

    Read Everything You Can
Read all you can about your niche. Subscribe to Google News Alerts, Subreddits on Reddit, and Facebook groups. Build your own library of important websites in your field. Never be lazy about your education.

Go Through 50 Books Per Year
If you read one hour per day in your niche, that will translate into about one book per week. One book per week translates into about 50 books per year. 50 books per year will translate into about 500 books over the next ten years. Who is Google going to trust for E-A-T, some noob who publishes crap or you, the industry expert?

Now, how do we make time for one hour of study in our crazy, hectic lives?

This guys sums a lot of it up but take some time to watch some old school Brian Tracy videos. He's pretty old now so his newest videos don't have the snap the old ones do. This guys knows how to be productive and squeeze the life out of every minute of every day. Find all this old stuff that lasts 1-9 hours and listen while commuting or laying in bed. If you can process it, increase the playback speed to 1.5 or 2.0 and cut your listening time in half.

Here's my YouTube playlist, my personal playlist about motivation and discipline. Some is better than others on this list. It's pretty old. I probably need to gleen some stuff out. There's a little bit of Arnold in there because that guy is still a god in my book. Amazing accomplishments for a guy from a little town in Austria.

These are my Mentors (in the world of time management and productivity):

#1 - Jim Rohn (he was mentored by Earl Shoaff) - teaches the basic laws of life and how to play the game in easy to understand terms.
#2 - Brian Tracy - industry guru on time management and sales
#3 - Zig Ziglar - the grandfather of all these guys on this list
#4 - Tony Robbins - guru (even though his video documentary is called "Not Your Guru." He knows how to read people and connect on unbelievable levels.
#5 - Tim Ferriss - new generation of applying all these principles for productivity in a digital age.

None of these guys have anything to do with niche blogging. They lay a framework on how to function highly in our society. I have mentors in other sectors too.

To get motivated (but realize it is the discipline that keeps you going, motivation is fleeting), I like to start with a quote from one of my favorite movies: start with this video.

Everyone learns different and is motivated by different things. My mentors may irritate the crap out of you. If that is the case, I urge you to find your own mentors. We all need them and every successful man had mentors at some point.

Well, you're certainly walking the walk in the time-management stakes. If I'm not mistaken, you work full-time, are doing a PhD, working on 2 blogs, offering a writing service to other bloggers and keeping us all informed and educated here!
    I salute you!

Did I mention I'm raising SIX DAUGHTERS (with the help of my lovely wife, of course)?

You know, seriously though, I can't sleep. I have a problem falling asleep. I can't seem to shut my brain off. If I medicate, it makes me act weird and I didn't like it. So, I stay up to 2, 3, or 4 am before going to sleep. Then get up at 7 am for my job. It's not optimal and every few weeks to a month I sleep for like, half a Saturday.

But dammit, I'm tired of working for "the man." I want to have control of my own schedule and travel.

City Councilman this year with plans to run for Mayor in two years when the sitting Mayor's term is over. Mayor pays $60,000 a year. I'd quite my day job and blog full-time if I get that gig for sure.

Funny, that's exactly the opposite reason of why I blog. I blog so I that I can make enough money so that I won't have to travel anymore. Been homeless and vagabonding for way too long and got really fed up with it so now just want to relax, buy a house, and settle down in the quiet, peaceful, beach town I'm living in and loving so that I'll never need to travel again.

We're in the same boat but for different reasons.

The commonality is that we both want to control our schedules.

I want to travel in an RV with my wife and blog about what we see on our travels. But also want the freedom to do what I want, when I want. Like, I get more work done at night and early hours of the morning. And I don't like to get up early. My job requires me to be in my office 8-5.

The only way I'll be successful in the end is to reduce my expenses and live on less. For now, with all these kids at home, expenses are really high.

I've done minimalism experiments before. I can live on $5 a day and have maximum nutrition. But then there's the house, car, insurance, electric, natural gas, car gas, phone, water, trash, etc etc etc.

Almost to 25% of last month's earning by day 4 of this month :

And organic traffic has surged significantly (well, from where it used to be anyway):
