Hello everyone! I will documenting my progress here in order to boost my motivation for my upcoming project I have, which is to make money through betting affiliates.

The main plan is to provide free betting tips on social media, which will be used to get traffic for my website (which will also provide more in-depth tips and stuff). My main target is the African market, which means I will have to adapt all my approaches to African customers. I have chosen Africa because it is an emerging gambling market and I have already noticed a tendency for African people to follow my posts even without actually targeting them.

The biggest issue I have is setting clear expectations for myself. I found myself giving up previous projects of mine (including this one that I initially started in April) because I was blowing out of proportion my expectations of my performance in the early stage, I hope that this thread will help me by being able to visualize my evolution throughout this journey and keep me motivated to continue this idea of mine.

WHAT I HAVE

1. A budget of around 1000€ for the next 3 months. I can always ask for some money from my parents, but I'd rather not do that;
2. A domain and a barely-functioning website;
3. Social media accounts created (FB, IG, Twitter, Reddit) with logos and post templates;
4. A general idea of who I will be working with in terms of bookies and casinos. I have not officially begun working yet, but I already know who to contact.

WHAT I DO NOT HAVE

1. Child accounts for IG. I will firstly create accounts using the 4g phone method, thinking of getting 10 accounts for now. I will not use any automation atm, because it is both more complicated and unreliable without a custom-made bot;
2. A clear strategy to approach FB groups in my niche. It seems that African people are more into using FB than IG, so I could be missing out on a lot if I choose to ignore FB betting groups;
3. A fully working website. Until I can generate some revenue, I would rather keep a simple website with only the bonuses page and grow my social media accounts. It doesn't seem worth to me to spend a lot for a website for which I would struggle to get traffic to; that money is better used for increasing my social media presence. The moment I switch to a full website, I will also have to take into consideration links, seo and other things I have not fully researched yet.

SETTING EXPECTATIONS (October)

1. I expect to experiment a lot with child accounts on IG. Never worked with them before, so it will be interesting to work my way out of verifications and action blocks, while also providing the main account with a decent number of followers. I do not expect a huge boost in October, so I will not set any tangible objective;
2. I want to get at least 3 FTDs (First Time Deposits). Because the affiliate model is based on revenue generated to the bookie / casino, this does not guarantee an income for me. I only make money if the player loses money, usually around 25% of the loss;
3. I expect to research ways to efficiently use FB groups in order to get people on my page. Perhaps even creating a group on my own where I could share the posts of my page, but this has to be looked into;
4. I want to experiment with FB, IG and Twitter ads. I know these are more expensive, but I would like to see the results anyway;
5. Reddit. Start posting some analysis of games there, but I need to be careful with the rules of the subreddits regarding self-advertising. I will not target African people by using Reddit, but I am sure some extra activity or traffic will help regardless.

To anyone telling me 500€ per month, as a goal, is rather low, I can only answer affirmatively. But that is the goal only for 2020. I live with my parents, so I do not have any living expenses.

I will make an update every 2-3 weeks with what I have achieved and what I have learned. I hope to make good use of all the information on this forum and to give back whenever I can provide an answer to a question. But until then, I shall learn.

PS sorry for the shitty formatting, didn't manage to properly use bullet points for some reason

Hello! What do you plan to do if the FB group admins will block your messages?

I don't think they are interested in their participants leaving through other people's affiliate links.

I'll be following!

What exactly will you be doing to promote these casinos/bookies on IG? Like provide match statistics etc for upcoming matches?

Tried IG + Gambling myself in the past and never had much success.

I will post match predictions and statistics. For each league (bundesliga, primera, premier, ligue 1, seria a) I will post a prediction. Basically, I will post 3 days ahead, thus grouping the matches based on the league. I think this is the optimal approach, because it allows me to post my prediction for several matches at once per post without spamming (imagine posting a separate prediction for each individual game).

I am also thinking about promoting posts where I highlight my past performance. But that can be tricky, because if the games go south I cannot post negative stuff lol. I take my predictions from another website because it doesn't matter that much, but I try to hover around 2.00 odds for each game.

Haven't quite thought about this, but...

I will be subtle about it. I won't go "X wins the game at 3.00 odds, here is my ref link", but rather share the posts I make on my actual page, inviting people over to my page / website. Anyway, trial and error, there are so many betting groups out there that it won't hurt if I get blocked on some of them.

I am also probably going to look into scraping the groups, but don't know much about that yet.

Thank you! It will surely be a complicated journey, but even if I don't make it, hopefully I will have learned something by the end of it.

UPDATE 1: 29.10.2020

Hello everyone and welcome to my first update of my journey.

So I started a month ago and I set some expectations for myself back then. I did not quite fulfill them - but I am very happy that I achieved others.

Here is a quick list:

  • Created my own logo and made new social media banners.
  • Created my own website. I was actually looking to pay someone to build the website for me, but as soon as I asked for some quotes I was hit by $100+ for barely a landing page with no menu. I ended up deciding to build the website by myself using the Mercury theme - which cost me $5. Instead of splashing a hundred, I spent just a few bucks and a few days! It's responsive and works great on mobile.
  • Geo-targeted content on my website. The best part of doing the website by myself is that I can easily implement new things; and I had this wet dream of having geo-targeted bonus offers. I am using GeotargetingWP Pro (trial for 14 days - $10/month afterwards) and it works absolutely amazing.
  • I joined various affiliate programs in order to cover most of the countries in Africa. One thing I found out is how few options there are: you only have a handful of sportsbooks that cover multiple countries at once and there are many online casinos under the same umbrella. So there isn't that much diversity out there, but I'll be fine.
  • Started playing with IG child accounts. Made a stupid mistake when working with cookies, user agents and that sort of stuff. But I figured it out and now I'm good. I also spent far too long figuring out how to root an old phone (Galaxy Mini 2 lmao) and it seems that IG doesn't even work on it (the Android version supports it but the phone simply refuses to run IG). The plan was to create all my child accs from the phone directly...
  • FB Groups are a goldmine. I tested some stuff and the reach is pretty good (but very volatile) - the only boundary is the 30-40 shares/day limit per account.

Now it is time to set some objectives for November.

  • ADS. Do at least 3 runs (1 week/run) on IG, FB and Twitter.
  • Create more FB & IG accounts and FARM them. I want to be able to create a business profile for them. I also want to start posting videos on my child IG accounts (I am struggling with this). I already have the ideas for what the videos will be - but IG simply doesn't let me post them.
  • Make some changes to the layout of the website. These changes will accommodate additional offers that I will be adding. The current layout looks good, but requires scrolling to get to the offers of the bottom which can screw the conversion for those.
  • Improve the SEO of the website. It is zero and I have to put some effort into adding descriptions, captions etc. and more text overall.

As of today, my revenue is $0 (0 FTDs) and my costs are $10/month, excluding not-so-recurring costs such as plugins, simcards etc. I am abusing the hell out of some free trials, though.

UPDATE 2: 04.12.2020

Hello everyone and welcome to my second update of my journey.

So I started little over 2 months ago and I am quite pleased with how this journey has been going. Here is what I've accomplished in November:
  1. So I tried making some subtle ads on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter but quickly got rejected. Apparently the algo is really good at detecting gambling content in ads - or my name on Facebook (which contains the word 'bets') gave it away lol. Anyway, sent my RMG (Real-Money Gambling) application to Facebook around a month ago and no answer yet. If I don't receive a message this year, I will send another one once I have incorporated my company. As for Twitter, I got screwed - I used to have ~1000 impressions per post, but after sending my gambling ads application to Twitter, not only did I get rejected, but my impressions dropped to <50 per post. Yep. Yikes.
  2. I created 12 facebook accounts. Farmed them for 1 week (every day) and then joined Facebook groups, for which I have a self-made database. Started sharing and, thus, getting daily visitors on my website. This is going very well, but I HAVE TO AUTOMATE IT. Manually sharing up to 5 times a day for 12 accounts is impossible, so there is room for improvement of my reach on FB groups by automating the shares.
    Proxies. I am very close to producing my very own 4g proxies, like 95% done. Having 14 accounts in total, I would need maybe 2-3 4g proxies for my country at 40 euro each, that is way too expensive. I'd rather invest a tiny bit + some time into making them on my own.
  • Added shitton of brands to my website. I decided to choose lesser-known brands - because all over FB you will see the most common brands, for which I assume most people have accounts or have chosen already not to use it. The advantage of using lesser-known brands is obviously more interest and higher chances of deposits from new players. On top of that, you are usually assigned an affiliate manager that takes care of you personally, which is not always a thing with huge brands. Disadvantage are lack of resources (images, banners etc) which can affect conversions.

    DECEMBER OBJECTIVES

  • As previously mentioned, there is lots of room for improvement if I automate sharing in groups. So the main biggest best objective for this month is to start automating. This automation applies both to FB groups and on Instagram (for each FB account I have also created an Insta account). In order to automate, I have to make my own proxies, which I am on the verge of finishing.
  • Compartmentalize the offers on my website. Basically, make some changes to facilitate the user's experience. If he wants to find "Free Bets", there should be a section dedicated to all such bonuses. Same for other types, right now there is quite a mess and no matter how good the bonus on the bottom of the page is, nobody will ever scroll - so by doing this, I should be increasing my overall conversion rates.
  • SEO BABY. Add more content in general, in any way / shape / form.
  • Add more online casinos to my website. Right now I have tons of online betting platforms, but few casinos.

I've been in this niche for over 10 years and if you are going by revenue share you might expect these:

1. Revenue share kicks in with a considerable delay. You will see people signing up, deposit and betting, but you will also see they are winning.

In this case, you are losing. To move from a negative balance to a slightly positive balance you need a lot of daily active players - not just depositing players who bet ten times and they're out. Remember: from 30 daily active players (which is very, very low) some of them will win, some will lose. Some will give up - you need to refill these positions asap.

2. You need a lot of depositing players to be able to achieve 30 daily players. You need daily new depositing players to at least kick off some sort of money movement in your aff account. Unless you have like 2-3 daily new customers, you won't start moving. Moving doesn't mean earning, it just means there are money going through your account. If you can send 10-15 new customers daily, you can achieve your goal of earning 500 eur/month (steady) in one year or so, if you can keep it up.

3. Negative balance carryover might kill you instantly in the beginning. If you have a lucky player who wins 10k and doesn't lose it all in the next 2-3 months, you're pretty much done. Just move on to another bookmaker or make another affiliate account. Anything, just don't send traffic again to that account.

It's good that you diversify (work with many bookies) but always take into account:

1. Not everyone is correct. Not everyone pays. Almost all of them shave. For example, I only work with two bookies.
2. Legislation might change overnight and you will lose all players from a specific country.
3. People who bet do not make the transition to casino. It's less than 1% of them who will "enter" the casino. It might also depend on their financial education.

Focusing on Africa is a weird choice. You need money to power up your revenue. I know it's an emerging market with no financial education (sounds cynical, but it's the truth), but I doubt it can support your targeted earnings. The most easiest to get traffic is not always the one which converts. I would focus on UK, Australia, Japan and Europe. And from Europe, only certain countries with stable legislation regarding online betting.

Good luck!

This is really valuable information, thank you very much.

The reason I chose Africa is due to entry barriers. There is quite a lot of competition for Europe, Canada etc and I would need a much larger investment in the beginning. Anyway, the plan is to expand into other markets as time goes by.

3. People who bet do not make the transition to casino. It's less than 1% of them who will "enter" the casino. It might also depend on their financial education. This is a very interesting statement, I noticed decent interest for casinos from sports bettors (my numbers are so low it's not even worth mentioning them). Atm, I only advertise to people that bet on sports, but I saw decent clicks even on straight-up casinos. I guess it does depend on financial education, as you mentioned, because I'm sure this statement comes from your experience with more evolved/educated markets.

Once again, thank you for your input! Haven't really had the chance to talk to anyone from the industry until now.

Well, I was talking about betting depositors/players that will eventually make the transition to casino/poker/games. For example, over the course of one year, your stats may look like this

Sports net revenue: xxx,xxx EUR
Poker net rev: xxx EUR
Casino net rev: xxx EUR
Games/Bingo: xxx EUR

This pattern is very consistent over the years, and it means that while you can have a lot of active betting players, they will not go for anything else, like poker etc.

But of course, it's a gamble :)
