To be honest I can't believe it... but it's been a year since I've decided to put a lot of time and effort into my business after just sitting around with just 1 client that was only paying me $100 per month. Today I got one more client and I just had to share as it's about 1 year since I started and I am super excited!!! Please excuse the grammar as I will probably writing light speed.. I will try to piece together the whole story as best I can.

Backstory on me:
I graduated from business school in 2017 and got a full-time job which I really did not love - while I can manage the 9-5 I knew this was something I would dread. I anticipated this before graduation and searched online for different methods which can provide income - I found blackhatworld. Automation services were quite appealing to me as they provided me with unlimited freedom and flexibility to operate as a small team as opposed to one single person even while I work full time.

How I did it:
My business uses Instadub automation to manage and grow Instagram accounts for restaurants. My strategy would be to follow and unfollow, like, and comment to grow their page. I would also get influencers to come into the restaurant as well. Things were looking great and the set up was quite easy.

I set up a Wordpress website with Namecheap that offered three tiers:
  1. Standard: $99/mo
  2. Plus: $199/mo
  3. Supreme: $299/mo
Finally, after getting everything to work with stripe + gravity forms I was ready to make money!! Except... no one visited my website. In fact literally, I was the ONLY visitor to my website. The first client I got 3 months later was through a friend who had told his manager that I grow Instagram accounts. What a horrible performance, just 1 client after 3 months! I was disappointed, but they were paying me $99 per month. I realized I needed to actually sell to restaurants and not just sit idle waiting for them to magically find my site. The problem is that I am not good at selling or great at face to face communication.

So what did I do? I hired someone on Fiverr for $180 to cold call restaurants on Yelp. The result? 0 conversions. Money was wasted. At this point I was really discouraged, 3 months in and only 1 customer was paying me $99 per month - this was not worth the time I put into building everything! I did one last thing before giving up, that is paying someone to set up Facebook ads which I spent a total of $250. This was also wasted.. 0 conversions. I stopped for 3 months and gave up. Total money wasted: $470. Ouch.

The turning point:
In that 3 months of me working my 9-5, I gained a lot of experience talking with clients (I am a consultant). I realized the same kind of conversation was happening over and over again and it really boils down to this: "What business problems are you experiencing?" and the response was "Oh, here's how I can help" That is the nature of consulting after all, and so when I realized this I applied this to my business and IT WORKED.

I started off with cold calling businesses. After about 30 calls (I can't remember how many exactly) I landed a meeting with the owner of a restaurant that agreed to a $299/mo deal! I realized after doing more cold calls that this business is more about relationships and meeting face to face. I figured it would be more effective if I actually went door to door - so I came up with a list of target restaurants and did exactly that. I looked up restaurants that basically had terrible Instagram marketing that could use a lot of improvement and help. When I explained to them my strategy and how it could get them more customers they bought into my idea and believed me. For the next 6 months, I got 5 customers paying me $299/mo, 1 customer paying me $199/mo - basically on average 1 customer per month.

It got easier and easier with more practice - it especially helps when you have a portfolio of happy clients to show your potential leads!

Currently I have:
$99/mo - 1 client
$199/mo - 1 client
$299/mo - 5 clients

My goal is to get to $4,000 a month by the end of 2019. Thanks BHW, pretty much been lurking on this forum and I finally took action and learned that business takes time to grow, it is not an immediate success "overnight".

Congratulations.

Often in sales people try to sell a product/service on a cold call without listening to what the potential client needs. They are reading from a script and wonder why the person hangs up.

Ask what they are looking for, ask what problem they need solving, then offer the solution.

Glad you kept going with this and didn't throw in the towel after losing money. Upside is you learned from the errors and made the correct adjustments.

Thanks for the encouragement, it was really bad after that initial set up with no responses. But I couldn't honestly expect instant success by just setting up a website. I did come up with a cold call script, but more often than not it would go off track as all restaurants had different KPIs.

I found that it was also important to identify restaurants that needed help - if they were in tip top shape I wouldn't be able to convince them to add value. My challenge now is responding to businesses that have existing management that I feel I can provide a superior service to.

Nice! Keep it up man! What do you think is the best time of the day to call restaurants btw?

Your goal is to speak directly to the manager, owner, or someone who can make decisions. The manager will be busy Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. I like to go with Monday and Tuesday after lunch (around 2-3pm). I'm still hashing out my process because I think there's a better way to sell without forcing it down their throats... More on that in a future post perhaps!

Hi and Congratulations on your succeed :))

I have a plan like yours on a different niche.

Some questions;

1) what is the difference between your serving plan? I mean for example what do you serve extra for your client in the supreme plan

"Standard: $99/mo Plus: $199/m Supreme: $299/mo"

2) Most of the guys here use Jarvee for automating. Do you use proxies on Instadub automation? If it is yes which proxies do you use?

3) If you don't mind Can you share your website name here or with DM to me? I made an e-commerce WordPress site before and I wonder some kind of your serving website design.

Keep grinding and congrats on the success.:))

Good job. Keep closing on a local level and once you're done with local restaurants and businesses, try scaling on an online level.

That's where the HUGE money is. But it is a lot more competitive and a lot harder to close deals. Without face-to-face contact.

Hopefully, you have a nice set of recommendations and testimonials of your service by then and that should make things a little easier. And a lot more experience of course.

I wanted to start this kind of business but im afraid to lose their accounts (getting them banned) because I might log to many accounts at one time.

Using proxy for each account will solve this? can I use a proxy in someone others account? (because their IP is already linked to that account).

Another potential technique would be make a quick powerpoint presentation and create a video going over the powerpoint. Purchase email lists of local restaurants off fiverr and send them a cold email with a link to your video. This might be good for people who do not want to cold call or go door to door.

Thank you so much for sharing this. It is really motivational.
Questions:

How did you distribute your offer packs? What do you offer on each pack?
Do you also create content for them? Did they ask you to handle Facebook and other social platforms?

Thanks,

Awesome story, congrats!

Could you explain how do you run multiple clients IG accs with automation software - using proxies or doing them all from the same IP? Thanks.

First i wanna say congrats for keeping up the good work and inspiring others reading this posts. perhaps all that money spent over the time is not waste, i see it as an investment towards the business. a lot of business owners sometimes share the struggle they went through with the minimum texts character possible within the platform they share this info coz people dont see what you actually dealt or be dealt with when you started but they only see the success and how much you're making so everyone can join the band wagon...its called PITCH
i might not make sense with my words but i guess people will understand what im saying.
well all i can say is inspire as much as you can and your true disciples will follow...aka potential clients
have a very nice day ahead of you.
CIAO!

Every shop or store in my neighborhood had connected with 'thuisbezorgd.nl' they don't need much marketing at all.
