    ********** UPDATE **********

Well what can i say... i got bored of waiting for the script to finish sorting out the database, well, that and a lightning storm decided to trip my power halfway through, so i just rewrote the script, job done in 2 hours...

So the database was to where it should have been days ago, full short url/prelander site up and running, test the first link, works no problems :) Then get an email from Crakrevenue telling me they have upgraded their domains and that it is advised to use the new one, so i'll completely rebuild the site AGAIN today using the new affiliate domain to make it future proof.

While doing this i am also going to move the database from my usual web host to a central service like AWS RDS, this makes sense for a few reasons:

    • My short urls / prelanders are hosted on an AWS ECS instance anyway.
    • You need to be using a TON of database traffic to exceed the free tier DB, which i won't be.
    • My current webhost is funny about access to their MySQL database's, you need to allow individual IP access if not calling from local host, this is almost impossible to work with when using VPN, Proxies, Dynamic ISP IP etc
    • It'll cut costs in the long run, i had written a script to check for IP changes and send me an SMS alert when it happens so i can make sure things are running smoothly, but if when i scale it'll be a pain, and SMS credits could be better off spent on other things..
    • Since the plan is to get this system running on a VPC i have at home to begin with and then move to a VPS or dedicated server later on if it is worth is, having the data/database as a seperate entity just makes sense.
    • It's limitless! This is AWS we are talking about, if i grow the database to be huge with tons of traffic, it is incredibly easy to scale that up when hosted on AWS.

All of these issues/changes are causing delays at the beginning, but getting a solid system in place will save time and money later on, and I'm very big on autonomy and not having all my eggs in one basket, so a fully managed backed up central database is definitely a good way to go.

    Thank you :)

    ********** UPDATE **********

A productive day today, AWS RDS database created, all image references, twitter hashtags (and ever-growing list of email accounts) have been moved over...

The code which I will be using to schedule my posts is now well on its way to being a working model, including logging of all actions, automatic collection of stats daily, and SMS alert of any failures so they can be acted on straight away, this code has been scheduled to post at what i have researched to be the optimum posting time and frequency.

The way it is going to work is, pull the next image from the database, then perform posts to the networks using a censored or uncensored version of that image depending on which platform it is going to.

I have posting to Twitter almost ready to go, the code for this pulls a set of hashtags from the database (currently 10,000 different combinations) and a comment from the database (only 10 comments at the moment, I must spintax a LOT more before going live), it then sends these and an image to Zapier and Zapier then posts them to Twitter (this means I don't have to worry about my dynamic IP at home causing problems), the image, hashtags, and comment are then marked as used in the database and will never be repeated.

I have also set up an IFTTT Applet to start retweeting relevant content from other users to my account to warm it up a little...

I have a bit of a hectic weekend planned so not expecting much progress, but I am planning to start posting my own content to Twitter on Tuesday and if i have enough time between now and then I may also add in other networks too.

How many hashtags are you looking to use on each post?

Research says the optimum for engagement with the actual comment on Twitter is only 2, with a maximum length of 12 characters...

That said, if you are looking for search presence as opposed to optimum engagement it makes sense to put in as many relevant tags as possible, while still leaving enough room for some kind of comment.

At the moment I have a pool of 11 Hashtags, of which I will be showing a random selection of 8, later on, this pool will increase to 23 again showing a random selection of 8, even with a pool of 11 it should give hundreds of millions of unique sets of tags (I have a computer working on the actual figure now just out of interest), and with a pool of 23 displaying 8, the number of uniques would easily be into the billions, so no concerns on having exact matching hastag combinations any time soon.

There is no specific reason for the choice of 8, it could be 7,9,10, whatever is personal preference, it just seemed like 8 was a good number to get a decent amount of searchable tags per post, while leaving a reasonable amount of space for an actual comment.

Incase anyone is interested... Possible combinations of hashtags if posting 8 out of a pool of 11 and the time taken to compute them all...

    ********** UPDATE **********

All going well, scheduled posts will start appearing on Twitter in an hour or so... :) Just pictures, comments and hashtags, no links as of yet...

I have also mostly finished the automated posting to Tumblr and Pinterest and I am currently working on hashtags for Instagram... Also had another great idea for Instagram but I'll save that for another journey after this one is up and running a bit...

For Instagram, I am going to be using GMT2 and 4G proxies (well actually 3G) for the account management, this will also give me the scope for child accounts, etc if I wish later on.

Oh and everything has been moved to its own VPS now as opposed to the home computer, however, I am most likely going to run GMT2 on that as I'm not looking at doing anything crazy with it...

A good root around in my gadget/electric draw produced a Raspberry Pi 3 and 2 * 3G USB modems from past projects, so they are going to be repurposed for proxies, not sorted out the software yet, but it all powers up fine, both modems connect to the network, and both are recognized by the Pi, so that's half the battle... And if I want to expand/upgrade it to 4G it USB modems are cheap as chips on places like Facebook Marketplace...

Twitter currently sits at 7 Tweets and 2 Followers, just from hashtags on retweets...

    ********** UPDATE **********

After a VERY long day, I have a decent amount of progress on my 'Scheduler' script today, so now I am posting to Twitter, Pinterest, Tumblr, and Facebook, according to a given time schedule...

This also includes logging all actions, sending me an SMS if something goes wrong, and sending me an SMS once a day to advise of my current stats... (although not for facebook yet, it's on the 'to-do' list along with Instagram)

VPS is running at approx 25% CPU and 60% Memory use with peaks up to 80% on the occasions it pops a browser window open so I won't get much more out of this one without an upgrade...

Next step is to start looking at my 4G proxy set up and getting things going with Instagram...

    ********** Update **********

What's that saying? "One step forward, and two steps back..." That's how the past couple of days have been...

    Let me explain...

Zapier, great tool, does exactly what I wanted, an easy way for me to post directly from server to various social media platforms... So when I realized this morning that there wasn't anything reaching social media I dived, firstly, into my code, and then into Zapier dashboard to see what was up...

My server and code was still running, still saying it was posting as it should be, no failures on my end, which to be fair I thought would be the case, so over to Zapier, and the account is building up 'Held Tasks', i had hit the 'Tasks per month' limit (100) of the free account in only a few days, dammit! So simple right? Just pay to upgrade... So i calculate how many tasks i am using, 15 posts a day to 4 platforms = 60 posts a day, times that by 31 and i need a minimum of 1860 tasks available at this stage, so i look at the pricing and to be able to run that many tasks i would need to shell out $62.50 per month (or $50 per month if i pay for a year up front), i'm not paying that much just to share across social media, not even botting, or multiple accounts, or anything like that, just to share across 4 social media networks...

So the immediate decision was to go to the developer section of each platform and try to get access to their API so i can post directly... Pinterest done with no problems, Tumblr also easy without any problems, great :)

Facebook is being a pain in the a**, a lengthy application process and waiting days for approval.

Twitter just said 'No'! And Twitter is the base of where i am directing people due to their relaxed rules on adult content...

So as it stands, pinterest and tumblr are still being posted to according to schedule, just using direct API access instead of going through Zapier...

Facebook I'm just going to wait and see what their response to my application is...

Twitter is most likely going to get browser automated for the time being while i appeal their decision...

Set backs eh, it'll be worth it in the long run...
