Ok, so here i am, a few years trying to make some bucks in the IM, white hat and black hat. But all of my attempts have been fails untill now. Thanks i have a 9-5 job which pay me enough to survive and spend a few dollars on IM.

First thing you have to know is that i’m a lazy ass. I don’t like t spend more than 2/3 days on a project, and if it doesnt bring any thing, then i’ll pass on it. So it takes me alot of efforts to write you there.

Second thing, i’m french, so excuse my poor English and sometimes my lack of vocabulary.

I’ve been browsing this boards for a while now and tried to reproduce some of the « successfull » methods given here, without any success. So sorry guys, the only things i will share it ire my fails. And i had quite alot. Not sure if i could write all of them down here. Hope this will save you time and money.

Fail #1 (Domain Name Squatting) :

I started this in 05. Domain name squatting is the fact of registering a domain that should be owned by a trademark. For example, I registered the domain « sfr3g.com ». SFR is one of the 3 main phone career in France and 3G is the speed of the connection. During 05 you could see « SFR 3g » in almost all their ads on TV. So i thought it was a pretty nice deal to get the domain name for $10. I then tried to sell it on specialized forums (namepros.com i.e.), and got a few answers, but most of the people were asking « is this really legal? ». NO, this is not, and if the owner of the real brand find it, you’re screwed, and that’s what happened to me. SFR lawyer department contacted me perrty quickly after i copped the name. They simply asked me to give them the domain (they wont pay for the registering fees), and if I didn’t want to, they woud just sue me. So 5 days after i registered this domain, i gave it back to SFR.

Fail #2 (Facebook fan pages) :

Something more recent. facebook pages. Its a big deal, i mean really really big.

As I saw pages growing up on facebook, I decided to give it a try. I saw this english page called « 97% of the population cannot solve this riddle », and I clicked on it. Interesting thing, you actually had to first click on the « like » button to make the riddle appear. Its a simple FBML trick (Facebook coding laguage), but super efficient, as it directly appears on your live feed (*somewho* liked *this page*), so at this point, everyone that has you in his friendlist could see it. Thats what we call today the « viral marketing ».

I didn’t do any much effort. I just created the french version of this page, and liked it myself, and sent it to some of my friends. The fact that you have to click on « like » first is super important, cause like i said, it appear on your feed, and your frinds see it. The title is really important as well. People want to know if they part of the 3% people that can solve this riddle. Its really pretentious but most of the people act like this. Another good point on facebook page is that once people click on the « like » button, they kinda suscribe to your feed. And every single status you will post on the page will appear on their homepage.

My page actually hit 630 000 fans (in about 72/96h). At this point, this means every status ill post will be seen by 630 000 people. HUGE MARKETING POWER. It was my first try.

The first problem came after less than 24h, I was at something like 90 000 fans, and a message appeared on on my facebook page (I was the only one able to see it) : « please send some proofs that you’re owning the rights on this page, or you’ll loose your privileges « , or something like this. Basicly means that if I don’t send some ID and some proof of my business (cause facebook pages are reserved to business), they will block my rights to post new status, and at this point, the page gets useless. I failed, cause I was using a fake facebook profile.
After a few days, they blocked the acces to the page, and today, 580 000 still remains on this page, but i cannot update the status anymore, really frustrating.

I was the first french page using this FBML trick to make people click on the « like » button before seeing the content. Then it got really popular.

As a conclusion, I’d like to say that facebook pages can be really powerfull in term of marketing, but you have to be carefull of what could happen and not loose eveyrything

    Fail #3 (Facebook App) :
So here we are in 2011, facebook apps are sperading all around the site, so i decided to give it a try. I have some skills in PHP so i made this really simple website where you can scan all of your singles friends on your friend list. Basically, the user install the apps, clicks on « see single males » or « see single females » and the list appear. The trick was, without them knowing it, a story would appear on their timeline saying « user just consulted his female single friends » and a link with « whos single in your list ? ». It was viral. But the application lasted 2 days, a few hundreds users and facebook banned it.

    Fail #4 (E Whoring with Facebook) :
My longest project, as it was almost automated. Started in 2009, i created a fake facebook profile, a cute girl, with alot of real pictures (based on one of my real friend, hope she’ll never know). And i started adding random people. Then i found this usefull app « are you interested » on facebook so i gave it a try, looks like « hot or not » with an option to add the on facebook if you match. I just clicked yes on every male appearing, sot hey thought they would have a hit. It worked for a few month, 200 friends request. Then the « add friend to facebook » feature became paying, just like every dating site. So i made a twist, i put the profile url on my picture, as they werent moderated and scaled it up. Auto click « yes » on every male (with automator on Mac). It brought me 1000 more friends request in a few days, before being banned on this app. That done, i was thinking of how to use those 1200 single male friends.

So i made another twist and created a fake profile page for xxblackbook(this was probably an idea i got from BHW) (see it here http://imburning.com/caro75.php ) and posted it on my news feed. Had a few its, made a few bucks ($25) before teh post was reported to facebook and got banned.

But $25 is good still and i could twist a lil bit more to make real money. But im banned form the facebook app, so what to do ? I created a second fake profile, launched the apps, and oh ! they moderate pictures. Business is Dead.

Fail #5 (twitter, ewhoring, ppd, trafic) :
Days ago, I was reading alot of threads about twitter on the forum. So i thought id give it a try. I bought tweetadder (the only program I know of on for Mac users) and 5 proxies, cause I have my personall twitter account and Id cry if it was deleted.

Account 1 (still in progress) : @Jessduvale, a cute girl, aspiring cam model. I extracted the followers of a famous cam model and follow them 200 per days with tweet adder. I got 20% of follow back. Thats poor. Im thinking of using the blackbook twist again, but i twill take me forever to have a décent amount of followers on this account. Semi Fail for now.

Account 2 (tested, fail) : @IGIVEYOUMUSIC. I spent several hours yesterday on this one. Im downloading 15 rap rnb mp3 a days, all ultra recent, unreleased. I edited the tags with « Media Rage » to bulk replace the website i got it from with my twitter account name and the picture with mine. Then I uploaded them to Sharecash and made a short url with ******. I then put the 15 tweets such as « DOWNLOAD Future Feat. T.I. - Magic (Prod. By K.E. On The Track) (Mastered) ( 2o12 ) http://******/4jXLI » in my automated tweet program, to post a tweet every 10/15 minutes. I hoped the peopel looking for artist would click on link at least if they did research on them.

1 Click in 24 hours. MASSIVE FAIL.

Account 3 (tested, fail) : @IGOTMOVIES, Later that day i thought about a thread i saw here about getting trafic from Yahoo answer for people trying to download movies. Interesting thread. So i decided to give it a try, but with twitter. So i made this page http://msc.im/watch.php?movie=Devil Inside whatever you type after movie= will make the site change. I thought the people wouldnt mind doing a CPA action to unlock the movie (im using leadbolt content blocker here) So it was a great way to scale it up if it worked.

I extracted every recent tweet with the keyword « want devil Inside ». Alot of the tweet was about people wating to see the movie. GoldMine !!!.... well no, i auto replied to all of thèse user with a basic sentence « @DrippingSwagu_ Watch the Devil Inside Now For Free http://******/4jprk » . Made 100 tweets to start off. And i got 1 click only, one miserable click. MASSIVE FAIL AGAIN.

Im not unmotivated, cause internet is full of needs and ressources to get money. But untill now, eveyrthing ive tried failed.

    Any tips, feedbacks, partnership appreciated.

Thank you for your time, hope I didnt waste it.

    Salut!
    Lets go for english language.
I had and have the same story! Actually i m trying to work inside twitter too.
I think with it, to have success, it need to understand what are doing users inside, what they Want?
I think users Want fresh news, share point of views and talk about what they are doing.
About what you did with movies, for exemple, i m sur your messages are sent to another users who are doing the same. So it could explain your rate click.
Maybe you saw the evening in French trends, they talk about what they are watching at tv. Maybe it s something to work with... For exemple a web page with programme tv. And better why not a replay tv with content locker and cpa?
And if you want to have success on twitter i think there s only one way: send direct message. That s not important to have hundred followers cause they Will not clicks on your link. If you Want to understand what i mean take a look on a popular account with bit ly and look stats.
In my case with direct message my rate is 10 %.
another tip could be to take care of your words inside your tweets. For sur if i see " download, buy, money" or tweet with no subject i will not click the link. So what Will work? I don t know lol maybe something like " how to do that" or " are you stupid?" and " are you sexy!?", something really personal.
The work we must do, i think, it same like e mail spam. and if you have success with twitter in this way, i m sur you will have success with e mail spam too.
Well that s all i have to share today! If you Want to talk and share with French langage fell free to pm, maybe we could have success working together!

I read your whole post, and I think your Facebook methods were the most creative, especially method 3. I wonder if there's a way where you can keep recreating the app with new FB accounts once the old ones get banned?

You are the man! First for taking massive action and second for sharing your mistakes/failures which leads to discussions of workarounds and twists.

@headhunters to DM people u have to have them following you, which is hard, even when you're a cute hot girl (cf @jessduvale) so im not sure this way would work for me. Ill DM you sometimes soon.

@ForDummies i might have not explained well, but my application got banned, not my account. And since i only got 200 hundreds visit, which resulted in nothing at the end in term of profit or anything, i guess ill give up on that.

@JunkFood . yeah im trying, just like everyone else here. but ive been reading hidden for years :) . now its time to share, and i wish people would do the same.

    Tayax,
I tend to be a bit of a windbag, so be forewarned.

First, you are the single most courageous man I know. Not one man in a thousand would have he balls to write that. I salute that courage. Before you folks tear this man up, think about that.

No to the matter at hand.

    My advice:

First thing. This is a job, if your are not going to really work, I am wasting my time with you because you will never succeed unless you win a lottery.

    That said:

Turn white hat. In your case, I would build a blog, and the theme of this blog will be how black hat and trying for the quick bucks wasted a half a decade of your life.

You are now the reformed marketer, no longer will you try the get rich quick stuff, because in your youthful arrogance, you thought that if the world was foolish enough to get scammed by you they deserved it, and all you ever cost anybody was a click or two.

You realize now the value of hard work and honesty, and you want to save all those people who are about to embark on this path a lot of heartache.

Tell the truth on this blog. Tell everyone why you did it, what, and specifically how you did it. Tell them what happened each time, and tell them not to do it.

It would help if you actually meant it, but do not worry, the public will eat this up. People love a reformed bad boy.

In your blog, put in a section of how-to's, and in these how-to's dedicate a page to every single online task you know how to do. By this I mean a click, by click procedure with images when it will help the tutorial.

Put in a "What -is" section, and on each page explain what some component of internet marketing is. What is a proxy? what is a VPN?

Put in a review section. In this discuss in the detail the products you purchase, how you applied them and your results. Be honest, and include a link at the bottom to the product you are reviewing. Personally, I include both an affiliate link and a non affiliate link on the page in this manner:

If you would like to try the Latest shinny object wordpress plugin please use my link below:
    LINK

If you have a problem supporting me in this way, you can use the non affiliate link below.
    LINK

Pick one aspect of IM to go into, or pick a niche you really enjoy, study on how to do it successfully, implement what you are learning, and put all of this on your site as a running case study. It does not matter if you succeed or fail with these things, you are using them as content source. Try each thing you go into for at least 6 months before you declare fail.

(I noticed you are kind on a one shot deal, real life doesn't work that way. Your failures should teach you how not fail, not how to quit.)

When you make these pages, do your keyword research. Don't make a page called "using PHP redirects" if people search for "how to use a PHP redirect." Build whatever page you want, just do research to get a competitive keyword if one exists.

Build this site, adding a page every 3 or 4 days. It should take no more than an hour a day.

Day one, pick subject and do research.

day two pick keywords and write article

day three post article and do any dressing out.

day 4, take a rest, you don't wanna go nuts or something

    day five, repeat.

In a year you will have an 80+ page site that will draw the following audience.

Newbies: who want to learn what every thing is

Scammer wannabees who want to know how to do all the black hat stuff

General public who have any interests on the subjects you post to.

serious beginner marketers for the reviews and the case studies.

Internet marketers in general for the same reasons.

Reformed black hatters who agree with you.

Confirmed black hatters who disagree with you.

White hatters who agree with you.

and any friends you pick up along the way.

At first monetize with the affiliate review links and discrete related CPA offers. After you have 30 pages, add adsense into the content pages. After you have good traffic and good PR do some media sells.

In a year you will have an income producing site.

Use it for a springboard, and continue to build it. In 5 years you can have quite a property.

    Here's the hard part:

Stay white hat, do the proper seo on each page, automate nothing, participate in your niche, tst, test, test, test, and don't stop. Don't give anyone a way to jerk this out from under you. If you hit a roadblock, get around it, get over it, or get rid of it and do something that IS productive.

You actually take action a lot compared to most people. You are just building on an unstable foundation and you give up too soon.

Where would you be right now if you had formed a business for that Facebook deal and used your real account?

How much success did you sabotage there?

Folks I'm telling you, build a legit site first. Learn from it, make a small revenue stream, and use that revenue stream instead of your rent money to chase the shiny objects. You will enjoy your first year so much more than if you keep up this diving with sharks stuff.

    Good luck, keep us informed.

    @bijikpalir, you're probably right.

@sldebo Thanks for your long post. I usually read half the words of the threads here, but since it concerns me, i read it all.
You're giving me a great advice. Doing a full white hat blog about what i learned from black hat.

The only problem is, building a whole website, with post every days would take me a while, and i dont really like repetitive things. Thats why i looked into black hat, the "fast money" dream. And i'm still dreaming about it. I wish my mind light up someday with a crazy idea and get me rich. Those one shot things.

But I'll give it a try; cause i'm sure i'll make more money with consitent work on this one than all the hours spent there and there doing nothing but "unstable" foundation work.

What i've learned those past years is the only way to really make money over the internet is develop website or ebooks about how to make money over the internet. thats kinda funny but im convinced its the truth. Im not sure about being interested in gettin all that money (am i crazy? no, i have other sources of incomes, and im soon to be, hopefully, bankable music producer). I just like twists. being wise and learning. tahts all.

thanks for your post anyway. its a great idea

Maybe i did a mistake with my words but there s two types of messages: direct messages and private messages.
Private, you' re right, users must follow you to send us a message.
Direct, it s message like " @name hello! ". In this case, you don t have to have them following you. The message will appear on streaming users event ( citations).
I m using that, and i receive 10 % of messages sent using not very attractiv tweets. I think it s possible to have a best rate by using a best keywords research ( for exemple, if you are trying to promote a tv software, do research with " i m watching tv"). And for tweets something like, "@name I m watching tv too on my computer yourlink".

Great post. It is a very productive thing to reflect on fails and what you can do to make yourself better.

I was taken back to a few years ago.. I was into snapping up dropping domain names and then selling on ebay. Wow. What a mistake. I had some good names, and let them go for a meager profit. I once thought that developing a domain name would be tough. It didn't even cross my mind!

Now I am the one purchasing domain names off ebay and developing them. You can find some gems within the garbage names listed for 10000% the price they are worth, that always cracks me up.

I do not mean to be unkind, but either get over this, or stop trying. You are not going to succeed at this with this attitude.

Hey TayaX, how's it going nowadays? Finally gotten something that works for you? By the way, it takes alot of courage to do what you just did. Props to you, man!
