Can i go to jail for uploading a full length copyrighted movie to youtube? People upload songs to youtube and get away with it. Can i do the same with a movie? Or will they actually take legal action against me?

Also i read about a dude who went to jail for 3 years for posting episodes of the show "24" to a website similar to youtube. I'd post the link but i cannot yet.

No, because you don't host the videos.

Eh. I don't believe so. Only extreme conditions will they pursue that type of action. Odds are the movie would be brought down before you could even start to worry about it. However, your ISP may take action against you.**

    **unless SOPA passes.

No but you most likely will get a DMCA takedown.

No. You aren't hosting the videos. Even if you could technically go to jail, no one will send you to jail because the amount of money that would be required to track you down for that would not be worth it.

You still aren't hosting the videos; embedding them from youtube is another form of linking to THEIR servers. Besides that, you would have to be doing this on a massive scale before they started taking notice.

Well you see the concept to it is, i upload the video as unlisted and then add all the videos into a playlist. And then embed that playlist to my website.

And i do plan to do it on a pretty massive scale. So do you think the worst that'll happen is they'll make youtube take my vids down or will they begin to sue me and stuff.

I have a feeling this isn't a good idea, rofl.

technically its youtube that should get into trouble, but their tos says that they can't monitor all vids, so if they get a report they will remove the video immediately, and that is something they will do.

Well i'm not scared of them taking vids down or banning me. I'm scared of going to prison. Because, what if i did upload like, i dunno a full season of prison break. And it got over 100,000 views. I might be able to get into some hefty trouble. That's what i'm worried about..

You probably won't, but I'd be worried about actually getting the video up. Oftentimes they can automatically detect that it is copyrighted material and take it down immediately.

You won't get into jail, but please expect the movie will be taken down within 24 hours. It's not good to let your visitors to see the "video removed" notice.

Your videos have to stick for you to go to jail or whatever. If it's copyrighted material then they'll take it down.
