J.C. Penney caught using paid links. Make no mistake, every does it, they just got caught. No one has the time to wait for natural linking.

What is interesting is they only bought 2000 links which is nothing in the BHW .

They bought way more then 2000. The article is a great ad for tnx.net. The only way there were busted is that the competition has connections at the NYTimes and got this article written. Matt Putz, sorry I mean Cutts, had to respond to the NYTimes, so they had to do a "manual" removal of JCPenny.

Wow! This is awesome... Watch this clever move by JC Penny where they wave their magical PR wand and all culpability is gone:

"J. C. Penney did not authorize, and we were not involved with or aware of, the posting of the links that you sent to us, as it is against our natural search policies," Ms. Brossart wrote in an e-mail. She added, "We are working to have the links taken down."

Well, I guess that's how you do it then. You hire a bunch of black hatters, like off of here maybe, and then if you get caught you just say "I didn't do it!"

Right, somebody with a bunch of scrapebox and xrumer servers was just throwing gobs of links to your site for no good reason. Or maybe this was the work of a blackhatter with a stock portfolio heavily leveraged on JC Penny.
