I'm a bit of skeptical about the bitcoin myself. It seems to me that it is artificially inflated, and when it is convenient, the prices on it fall. And so only certain people get rich, and everyone else gets bankrupt (including your friends). I don't understand how you can trust cryptos at all, in some countries they still don't have any status and they don't count as anything at all. And this is not just for a month, but for the whole years! So you're doing the right thing that you don't trust Bitcoin, they shouldn't even exist!!!

I didn't trust it all in the first place

Bitcoin was a ridiculously good investment even a few years ago. Now it's more like gambling. I've never invested in bitcoin either - so that's just my opinion.

Did they invest when bitcoin was close to 20K USD?

I have put some small money into bitcoin, as low as $50, turned into $200 in couple of months... so only put money that you don't mind investing. And never listen your friends about bitcoin, if they lost so much money they probably doesn't understand how bitcoin works.
