What's the next step after determining which keywords I want to rank for?

I plan to create content in way of blog posts specific to each of my desired keywords. Do I also have to have specific backlink campaigns for each keyword or are backlinks just generic?

Also do i need to link directly to each keyword content page or can I simply link to the root domain

Create a SEO friendly url (yourdoman.com/exact-keyword) first. Then start to build backlinks to that URL (not root). Also it is a good idea to link to your main website with your main anchor text from there. Good luck.

It's always better to treat each page as unique. Titles, descriptions, alt, H1-3, and main body of content should be optimized individually. Link juice is shared between pages so building incoming links directly to the page itself is best.
