Anyone getting real growth with YouTube shorts here? I heard that this is awesome in helping to increase engagement and reach a new audience in an instant, which works perfectly for my growing blog. Is that something you think is worth putting more effort into, or are the longer and longer videos still out performing?

High quality content is the key
If you post shit, doesn't matter if it is shorts or long form content, it will perform poorly

I felt the same way before, but after making both long videos and shorts for a while, I realized it wasn't. Shorts distributes our videos very quickly, but that also ends quickly. The most important thing is still the quality of the content, my friend.

Not a fact, I've never once subscribed after watching the shorts on YouTube

Shorts + CTA is really good for growing subscribers. Depending on your goal tho, these subs are the type of audience who subscribe using "subscribe if you love your mom" CTA

You can still monetize that audience absolutely.

According to the product chief of YouTube every day more people is consuming YouTube from mobile

The key is not shorts but making also "long" videos in vertical

I have just seen in my TL a 20 minutes long video in vertical

I think it's time to start creating long videos in 1:1 or 3:4 format

Or you have something great and ultra visual to offer or you are going to be skipped if your video is in 16:9 format and people has to decide to watch or not in a 3 inches wide preview

Content is king. You need to topic and try shorts. If not success, you can create long video

I work in the OF industry and I use youtube to post some sensual videos of my models (yoga workouts) - do you think using youtube shorts will be better for reach? and how does the algorithm work in youtube?

The problem is the linking

External linking in description doesn't work on shorts

The only you can do is to add a link to a related long video in which external links in description work (but that is to many steps for visitors)

Definitely implement shorts for it. Your main idea is to generate traffic. With shorts you should at least 10x the views generated. Good CTA and they'll convert as followers on your Instagram and then subscribers. Also work a lot with TikTok lives if you aren't already, works like a charm.

VidIQ have just announced that at the end of October all the videos in vertical format for less than 3 minutes will be classified as shorts

It's an obligated step due to the amount of reused content from reels and TikTok

But it's a bad news for monetizing them due to the low CTR shorts have

Do you mean CPM? And it's actually good news as shorts CPM should increase for it

Yes, YouTube Shorts can be effective to grow your channel. When done the right way, it can get you new subscribers really fast.

From my experience it's smarter to really focus on an actual video and make that go viral.
In addition you can remix the original video to a short and drive more views, to the main video.

For example: I started a new channel and focused on creating one good video. Now after 90 days, the video has over 600k views and 12k likes.
The channel currently got 2k subs as well. I was able to monetize the channel after 2-3 weeks already.

Quality is Key.
Shorts are an addition to the success.

But remember, when you post crappy shorts, you either attract traffic for that only,
or you won't have any success at all. So focus on branding the channel the way 1-10m channels are doing it too.

The problem with shorts is the subscribers are totaly diffrent on long videos.
I saw also big subscriber channels who gained their subscribers mainly via shorts even 2 million subscribers but barely get 75k views in any of their long video

That's why I mention it's good for subscribers but depending on the end goal, it might not be ideal.

75k views with a CPM of 3-4 is still $200 / upload + there is a lot of other ways to monetize. We used to sell a single community tab feature for $xxx, now around the same amount of revenue can be generated by posting our videos in our channels community tab. Here's a guide I've posted about it: YT guide

You can still monetize and make a good profit, promoting (shorts) channel also doesn't have to be the same channel as the long form one.
