A couple years ago I built a site which was in the tech niche and I promoted the site far and wide on Y! Answers and the turn out was decent...

At the point that life got in the way the site was receiving 150-300 unique visitors daily and earning money with only a couple answers a day.

Now I have decided to try to start making money online again and visiting Y! Answers but it seems completely different now along with the traffic that the site had.

I remember when I clicked a question/answer there where always 5-20 answers even on relatively new questions (1hour old) or newer.

I have been clicking around today and have noticed some do not have have answers let alone a full question...

Is Y! Answers dying and is it even worth promoting on anymore?

I would have to agree that it isn't as helpful as before. I've noticed a huge decline in answers being made to new questions compared to a few years ago.

Agreed. It isn't a recent change however.

In the past I usually copy and pasted a question asked into Google to see if it came up on the 1st page...

I actually did this today and out of about 10 I searched for only 1 came up and the question was dumb as hell and not worth going after.

So you are saying that it isn't as helpful as before but you still can receive some traffic from it just not a huge amount like the past.

Forgot to ask... are there any good alternatives to Y! Answers?

Yes I know there are alternatives but I am looking for good alternatives not another waste of time.

It could be because they are now less favoured by search engines compared to what it was like before.

I still see Yahoo Answers results in Google whenever I search for questions. I don't use it for generating traffic so don't know if it still works like it used to. Try relevant forums as an alternative.

    Home Page:
It certainly isn't as popular as it was like five summers ago, but I think you still can get some traffic for new web projects.

Yahoo answers will be dying even further, as this kind of interaction will shift more towards social networks.
