What do you think?

I ranked to the top my .it websites by links from .com, net, org, de, ro, and so many other tld's, almost without Italian language.

Now after May update I am much more cautious when it comes to link-building.

Who knows. Probably not. I am more cautious when it comes to link building overally, not only about TLD.

.de, .co.uk., .ca are county extemsions > abbreviation is "CTLD" (country top level domains)

ctlds are super important for local seo

.. for all the other cases (apart from local) > stick with .com
