Someone told me that if an expired domain has more than 10 referring domains and it has at east one huffingtonpost kinda link then metrics are irrelevant?

    is it true?

DA/PA/CF/TF are just third party metrics. Certainly often helpful, but if a site has 10+ links from real authority sites and it's not just links from 10 year old articles buried in some archive, I'd always consider this domain, no matter what MOZ or any other tool says.

    no sorry

i meant that if a site has atleast 10 refering domains and atleast one of them is huffingtoon kinda site while the rest are general

plus this domain has never been used for pbn etc

so this guy told me that i should ignore pa da tf and cf

i mean suppose this site has pa da of 10 and tf cf of 10 but has one huffingtonpost link

while another site has pa da of 20 and tf cf of 20

both have never been used for pbn so i should go for first one or second one??

Hopefully the guy telling you all this isn't the guy selling you the domain.

Ultimately, the PA/DA metrics are nice but really the biggest indicator for me, is seeing what was on the domain prior and the only real way to do that is through wayback machine. You can easily see what domain had a half assed owner and which domain had someone that cared and updated content regularly.

There are 2 answers to this question depending on who you are.

If you want to use the domain to rank yourself, these metrics do not matter. The only thing that matters then is the number of authority backlinks. But, People do not understand that. So, on the other side of the coin, if you are a seller, you need to have domains that have high value in Majestic and Moz.

There are lots of sites which have only one page for years but still are valuable.

These metrics (DA, PA etc.) are very easy to manipulate. If you see a domain with DA 35, PA 36 and TF 20 doesn't mean this domain is great. Spam backlinks and redirects can push the metrics of domains a lot.

I always check the backlink profile before checking the metrics. Domains with authority backlinks will have decent metrics as well.

yeap as of now i am only in need of domains for ranking sites myself

so you think that a domain whose metrics are pa da 10 10 tf cf 10 but has one link from huffington post is more valuable than a domain that has pada 20 atleast and tf f atleast 20?

    Thanks

OP - two things would help you understand what it actually takes to rank, and they both require either ahrefs or majestic:

    1. Go to whitehat niches and start analyzing the guys ranking (not the huge authority sites, the smaller sites that still manage to rank), analyze their backlinks, analyze the backlinks of their backlinks and all the metrics involved.

    2. Pick some of the mot obvious money keywords for amazon affiliates, find the guys ranking with PBNs (some of them still dont hide their links against bots), analyze their PBNs

That's so you can get a feel for what those links can do for you, and how those PBN domains compare to whats working. Then you need to figure out your ROI.

No, 1 huff post link and 10 ref domains doesn't mean squat. You need to invest in hosting, content, time to set it all up, and recurring yearly reg fees. Factor all this in, and see if you can find a better deal - a more expensive domain with 2-3 huff post-type links and 50 ref domains, for twice the price of the first one would be a better ROI for example.

I can do keyword research etc, pretty good at it, just confused about pbn domain metrics. It was something new so i asked it here.
