So my website was sitting at position 20 for quite a while on a low-mid competition niche, so I decided to buy some PBN links from a seller on source market who looked very reputable to boost me up. I got 25 links and quite quickly my ranking went from 20 to 16, so i thought that if I got these kind of results with a small package, then getting something bigger should put me over the hump.

I then got 100 links recently and while the gig isn't close to being completed, my ranking dropped from 16 all the way down to 27 (and hasn't gone back up at all). This got me thinking that maybe the seller purposely hit my site with just a bit of negative SEO so that I wouldn't reach page 1 soon, thus forcing me to buy more links from him to get there. Am I just being paranoid or is it possible that this is going on? (he's been the only one doing any SEO for me the past few weeks, so nothing coming from me or anybody else could've caused this)

Odds are the site is dancing as opposed to the seller hitting you with Neg SEO.

Often when a site gets hit with a volume of links that are fairly decent which is more than the site usually gets it moves around, up and down, in the rankings before it settles in.

Don't see the point of the seller doing that.

See it from the buyers perspective - If a buyers site drops in rank will he buy more links from the seller or will he never buy from him again? I'd do the latter.

You're just being paranoid. It's just dancing. Wait for a week or so and see how it goes

welp, few days later and now I'm now bouncing between 41 and 47. Don't know much about this google dance if that's what this is, but I hope I don't "dance" my way out of page 2 permanently, especially after spending about $200 expecting the opposite

What is your anchor text ratio? You may have over optimised your site with too many exact match links.

I won't lie, i did use a lot of my links with an exact match and could have very well over-optimized. I'm not sure i got penalized though, there's nothing new in Google Webmaster Tools
