    Hey all,

I recently landed a local client who wants me to rank his website for 20 keywords out which 7 of them are triggering maps. I dont have a lot of experience with google maps although I have worked on it in the past but I have a few questions :

    1. How difficult is to rank above the maps , not in the map listing , but above the maps . Most of the keywords have search results above the maps and was wondering what kind of effort is required to rank the website above the map listings.

    2. Alternatively, what I was thinking of doing was to create 7 websites, rank them in Google maps and either redirect them to my clients website OR iframe the website with my clients website. Is this safe to do ? I am aware that Google is particularly pleased with redirects and this is concerning me a little bit.

Thanks a lot in advance and i would really appreciate any and all kind of information regarding this.

    Cheers

If it's a client with fat budget I'd build him several other sites (free/paid) and get them all ranked, having them as a blog network. But avoid link wheels or 2-way links. That's what I personally would do.

It's possible to rank above the Maps, but really depends on the competition for that keyword, e.g. what is the SEO like for the other sites on page #1.

You could do this if you had a budget, as each site would need it's own local phone number and address.

In my terms, I would say the SEO is medium . Beatable with enough effort . As far as creating websites is concerned, What I was thinking was , using mine and my friends' physical addresses and phone numbers.

Actually what I was thinking was, create proper websites , rank them and then redirect them. Will this be possible. This is actually a temporary solution after which I am planning to channel my effort to ranking the website above the maps. Until then use the redirect.

I have had great luck outranking maps, the biggest problem comes when one of the map listings pulls out in front and gets a highlighted result above maps. This ends you up sandwiched between him and the map listings. I ALWAYS see traffic fall off when this happens.
