    if i made a website promoting a movie that is not real?

    So say if i thought there was a titanic 2 coming out, could i buy titatic2movie.com and make a site saying its coming out and stuff?

    also, after a few months it did actually come out.

    Yes you can do that, a lot of people actually buy some potential domain name just to be sold in the future, consider it a long term investation :)

    LoL just tell me when you make a decent money from this method. I know some of my friend who did this and get A HUGE amount of money by selling domain name

    Im not selling the domain (not just yet) , im going to set up a site and see what happens =]

    If they copyright the word in your domain then no its not legal. You have to be able to show that you bought it in good faith and are using the domain for something unrelated - not that you plan on capitalizing on someone elses trademark. And I don't know that its actually illegal but they can make you give up the domain if they have a problem with it, happened to me with a domain that had youtube in it.

    You have the right idea, but you are concerned about terms that are trademarks, not copyright. Copyright is for the whole movie, trademark is for symbols or words used to market a business. If you rip the DVD of Spiderman you are violating copyright laws, if you set up a web site www.spiderman4themovie.com you are violating trademark laws.

    For what's it worth, "Titanic" is a registered trademark of Sirius Music, Inc. They could give you some trouble, especially since movies and music are somewhat related (in the entertainment business industry).
