I create account on niche related forum, write unique text in a new thread and place a link to article on my website etc. ofcourse I'm not a spammer and the thread seems legit. How valuable is this kind of link?

Yes this is how to do forum links, but there are not too valuable though. Also every forum will have different constraints on what is allowed or not, and it takes a lot of time to get this done. So only do a few in your niche if these are real good forums.

I just want to do it for a start to my new blog/website. My english is not that good (yet) to do guest posting, but thinking about it in the future. Do you recommend any other possibilities to get more valuable backlinks?

Yes this is the way to you get a backlink.Forum is on of them.In other hand you also have to creat more powerful backlink.

Most of the time the blog owner or webmaster is happy to write the post for you for an additional fee. That may be a good idea for you if you find high quality blogs that offer guest blogging.

Forum backlinks aren't really 'powerful' at all, but definitely worth having for a bit of diversity - and if you are lucky (if the thread is popular) you can get a bit of traffic to your site.
