    Hi guys,

I have my eye on a keyword(vacation niche) but, I have been out of the keyword research game for quite a while now so, would like to get some opinions before I go ahead and register the EMD.

    Traffic (Exact)

    Google Comp
    - quotes: 85k
    - intitle: 14k
    - inurl: 6k
    - inurl & intitle: 4k

    MS stats

    TT stats

Most of the sites ranking are old but, have not been updated in years either. I was thinking about adding articles regularly for the next few months with adsense and wordpress. If it kicks off I could add a script for providers to register and add their vacation listings, charge them a monthly fee or per lead.

Anyway what do you think about the level of comp? Will this cost me a ton of hard earned cash?

I don't know, would have to actually see it because it's awfully strange only one site has it in the title. So I'd assume maybe they don't have it exactly in the title, but it's pretty close. Or they are targeting something different, and the competition is really easy.

14k in title means it is very easy competition, to me.
After ranking a shit load of keywords to the top 10 over the last six months, I just don't know if it's worth it. Break it down like this. 9,900 exacts gets about 330 searches per day. If you're number one, you're going to be getting about 150 visitors a day. If you're just putting adsense on the site, you're going to get a click a day, maybe two. It's not a high paying keyword, so you're looking at $1-$2 per day. That's $30-$60 per month. And even if it's easy to get to the top, it will still be quite a bit of work.

Looks a little tough for me, but I like the really easy keywords. You'll never know until you try!

    well

DMOZ + Age website = medium to high competition

but if EMD found in .com or .NET then you may beat them with Authority BL

Three things I'd look at are: search volume, competition and monetization.

Even though allintitle is 14k, if the competition are authority sites who have been holding rankings for ages, I may be hesitant.

If it's worth monetizing, I would check the page 1 competing sites manually (from the above images, it seems that some of the MS/TT stats are contradictory). If the competition is too strong, I would not bother. Go for low hanging fruit. ;)
