I received the following email yesterday:

    ****************

We are interested in advertising on oneofmydomainsdotcom. Can you give us a price quote for the following?

    1. A permanent homepage text link inside of one of the first 3 paragraphs.

    2. A permanent inner page text link inside of one of the first 2 paragraphs.

Our website is a high quality site that is relevant to the content of oneofmydomainsdotcom

We are willing to pay a fair market value for this advertising. If you are interested please send your information to us regarding your proposed prices for this advertising and we will respond promptly if they fit our marketing strategy price targets.

Assuming an agreement is reached quickly, we will send payment and forward specific instructions.

    Best Regards,

    *******************

... followed by a name and a Honduras address.

Is this some new type of spam or fraud? I have never had an email like this before.

Anyone ever seen anything like it?

    Thanks
    Bugeye

Yes, you can make good long term money on these deals.

Make sure you haggle to get the best price and try not to give away too much so that you can still sell to other people looking for links.

Either the admins are being funny, or he found a way to get -1 thanks causing an integer overflow. (Well underflow, but basically same thing.) The number is equal to 2^32 - 1, which is the max value for a 32 bit unsigned integer, which you'd get subtracting 1 from 0 in a 32 bit integer address.

Looks like someone doing whitehat link building. If they end up being black hat just dump the link?

The email is obviously a photoshop edit.

I can tell from some of the pixels and seeing quite a few 'shops in my time.

they're right. Sorry, couldn't resist it.

Thanks for all the replies guys

I didn't even notice that thanks thing until you just pointed it out. (don't really pay much attention to that section of posts) If I clicked 1 every second 24/7, that would take 130 years. LOL. I think its a bug in the forum.

Do any of you have any experience in haggling such things? What is a reasonable thing? The site only gets < 300 uniques a month.

    <300 uniques a month.

Hmm, to be honest, asking for £20 / month would be great if you got that for that amount of traffic.

Not much point in doing it for under £10 / month even at such a low level of visitors, but i guess it all helps
