I've got an offline client who is breaking into an area that requires every seo element possible.

I've purchased a keyword url and have been buidling a site

    but

he also wants to add other areas not related to that keyword

I have a brand name url and could build a site using that

If I build both sites with the same theme and layout and use the canonical element to ensure that google only reads one page on one of the sites and I link the two sites together by adding url links to nav and sidebar menus that take people to both sites

Is that an okay thing to do? I don't want to mess up their seo before we even get started?

so both sites will have links to each other and I will use canonical?

For my friend but I am learning a lot. I don't know how to find out everything about any subject in a split second so have to learn as I go. This is a simple enough question and I'm fairly sure its okay to do but wanted to check with seo experts - cos thats how I learn. you learn? Pray tell and then I will become a master before I do anything more!

Give the op a break. Hes trying to learn and hes asking for advise, isent that what this forum is about. Instead try to be more supportive to someone who is trying. Karma baby.

Thanks for your support - I too thought thats what these forums are about and usually I've read great helpful supportive comments.

I actually think I know all there is to know about on page seo and how to generate backlinks to improve off page seo - I own Senuke X plus plenty of great seo plugins and other software and have VA's working for me on my own sites.

Just this is my first site build for an offline client who is also my brothers friend and I wanted to do the best thing for him.

Hope someone can give me a simple answer so I know whether to go ahead and do what I am thinking or if I should have just the branded site which includes their company name and the word 'energy' but this wont do much for their solar power services?

I do know that google will find you anyway no matter what the url as long as the onsite and offsite seo is done properly. Just with the competition for solar panels it might help to maintain that url

Ps - I am not a guy so as a girl I guess that will explain why I am prepared to ask stupid questions - I don't let my ego get in the way :)

That kind of attitude is NOT helpful, I have been doing SEO for years and still come here for advice and services. Maybe you will learn but your avatar suggests not.

OP I see no problem doing this. You may even get benefit if the 2 sites are hosted on different IPs

    Good luck

I have seen some really noob seo from companies that provide like article submits and social bookmarking being charged for $xxxx
Op is probably smarter then that. I wish those other guys asked for help in this forum too instead of just giving a BS service.

Thanks guys - I will use two different hosts so I will give that a shot and I'm very grateful to you all for your support

And a little info for the chap who didnt like my question - the two people I've helped with on and offline seo are both ranking number one page one and it didnt take me more than a few weeks - so I guess I must be doing something right :D

Still learning, always will be and asking questions is the easiest way for me :)
