OK so i've been lurking here a while and mooching on other sites and forums, gathering information on this whole micro niche thing.
Today I decided to give it a go but I would just like to know if my particular first micro niche is worth following.
I have a 3 word keyword that has 230 searches and google competition of 3 but "ACTUAL VISITORS FROM #1 IN GOOGLE/DAY" is ~50.
Does that sound like a winner or a washout?

Not much traffic...230 searches per month. That's 7 per day. If you get #1 on Google you will get 40% of the traffic which would be about 3 per day. How do you come up with actual traffic of 50/day? Not from 230 searches/month. It doesn't add up.

A good conversion is 25:1. You might get 3 sales per month.

I would not spend a lot of time on this keyword phrase.

are you kidding me? 230 searches per month?

cmon you can do better than this...lol

Is the 230 searches per day or per month? What are you using for research? I hate to assume anything but I would guess you are using MS? Need more information to give an honest opinion.

If you gave me no information at all though, I would say "GO FOR IT". If you can get that site to the top, learn some SEO and figure out some stuff about keyword research, that is more then most people are doing, and I would support that.

As for if it is a money making niche or not, really need more information. You can PM me if you want.

Good Luck

OK sorry I'm a bit of noob at this. I was just following a guide I found on here. I presumed that 230 was the total searches per day. It turns out it is the total in the last 365 days!
I was using the keyword tool at WordTracker, like the guide recommended.
Im just confused by this now.
Does that mean that in the last year only 230 people have searched for those keywords?
If thats true then only 2,359 people have searched 'free online dating' in the last 12 months.
Is there a better tool?

An outstanding keyword finder for you would be "Micro Niche Finder"...You will have to pay for it though. I think its about $97
Fantastic support by James Jones...many useful and useable features (like copying your selected results into your own project bucket)

It also gives a "strength Of Competition" indicator Light - Green for Low competition, Amber for Medium Comp. and Red for "Dont bother"

Try this rule - look for niche keyword phrase monthly search count less than 1100.
Then goto Google and search for that phrase, now get the PR for each site on 1st page. Now, add up all those PR's and divide by 10 to get an average.

If the average PR of those sites in the 1st page are less than or equal to 3 then you have a winner! :)

@terry56

Your formula can only give you the ballpark. There are also other factors to consider like... How old are the sites, do they have authority status, do they have high quality backlinks, etc.

OK so I took the advice there and downloaded micro niche finder.
Just for a little pointer in the right direction, would nice niche be worth chasing?

Global search count: 1,010
Exact phrase count: 6,030
OCI: 96%
SOC: 2

Im not going to be doing this everytime im trying to create a niche but I just want to get a good idea of whats hot and whats not for my first one.

Thanks guys.
