Might be a stupid question, but could i take still images from videos from something that's been shown on tv, a youtube video, or from a porn video and post them on my site? I'm aware of copyright issues with using images, was wondering whether i could do this maybe cos of fair use etc. Thanks!

They're still not unique and copyrighted from the works of others. But who knows collecting them and put it a nice and accessible place will give you more traffic.

^^ Especially if you make them look like videos, like put a wrapper around them to look like a youtube video. You could set up a site full of nothing but video "clips" and monetize it.

I don't think it's violating any copyrights. Copyright violation happens when you claim other people's work yours any try to make money out of it. I guess as far as you put Disclaimer and DMCA Notice on your site you are good to go.

umm... is not really something that would raise a major red flag if you ask me... many times people bypass copyright issues through the method you describe (editing an original work)

I don't think that is consider as copyrighted materials. By the way, to playsafe, you can put DMCA Notice page on your website. The respective owner can complaint to you to take down the materials.

I would suggest you to not do that because these things which your going to include in your site may not look real and natural...!

They are 80% not unique ,it is fully violation of copyright , Just The Facts. When you copy and paste someone else's stuff without their permission, it's called a Copyright violation

I think a lot of bloggers and news sites doing it, if you comment on the screenshots or the screenshots were used for referencing to your articles, it should fall under fair use.

Don't overdo it and you're fine, I guess.

If you simply copy a video and make them into something like slideshow without adding your own value, that will be copyright violation obviously.

It depends on what you're doing. Fair use is meant to allow you to review a product, "talk about" a product, a song, a literary work, because if you blocked 100% of a book, nobody would be able to review it as merely citing a passage would be an infringement.

So fair use is meant to allow you to grab screenshots from a video and talk about it, criticize it, etc.

Now, if you're grabbing screenshots with pictures of some hot woman and using that as content for your own production, then it's copyright infringement. So it depends on how you're doing it.
