I recently came across this ad on craigslist its a 2002 BMW 745i they only want 4900, This car is a $17k easy, Sold by a military guy anyways we wants to set it up under ebay protection so that is a plus,he is on a base so he cant call me? The car is in another state and he plans to ship it for free,.Then I have 3 days to review,. he says he is going back to the war so he doesn't need the car? Is this the deal of a lifetime or a new scam? should I send the money to ebay?

A car that needs to be shipped is 99.9% a scam. Don't bother with the guy.

Absolutely a scam... send him some emails and ask what city the car is in... he'll tell you and you say "Wow, my brother is a cop there... what's the address and I'll have him swing by to look at the car".

    You'll never get a response.

    I asked the guy this:
.ExternalClass DIV {} if its in MT why is your post in california,? is this real or what?

    he answered: Hey,
Thank for your reply.I will ship it with DAS. I think I can have it there in 5-7 working days. I will take care of the shipping charges as I told you in my first email. It will come with a clear title. I am a member of the eBay buyer protection program and using this service you will get a 3 days testing period after delivery. During that 3 days testing period I will not be getting any money. I need to know if you are interested so I can ask eBay to send you the details on this deal. If interested please include in your next email your contact info for eBay (name, address and phone number), so we can get the ball rolling.
    Thanks,
    -----

then i asked: is this and auto responder?

    LOL

now hes pushing me to send the money, saying now he has family issues, motherfuckers dieing an shit. gimme a break,. how does ebay protect against this?,. How would he get the money from them? seems like the worst waste of scammer time..

Ask him if you can do the deal via an escrow service. You should always do that with any reasonable chunk of cash when dealing online anyways, I do it with anything over a few hundred the small %age is worth the peace of mind.

    here is the latest!

    i just said:
cool i have an uncle thats state highway patrol in Columbus,he agreed to look at the car in the morning, please give me the exact address and who to speak with,. as soon as he has inspected the car i will send the 5k to you, please let me know the address and the person to ask for, that way i can send you the money asap, thanks

    this fool said:

I am sorry but as i told you i am not at home,i am stuck here in this military base and we are not allowed to take calls,we are not allowed to get out we have very restricted rules here,i appologise for this inconvenience, hope you understand my situation. That's the reason i can only do this through eBay.I left the car at DAS before my leaving, all i need is an address where i want it delivered.I am tax free,at least that, that's why i offered free shipping.I already gave my approval to the shipping company to start the shipping procedure, they started the papers, and in a couple of hours they will start the shipping. They told me that tomorrow in the evening or night the car will arrive at your location. The agent that will deliver your car will help you with the issuing of the new title if you decide to keep it,he has my authority. If you won't like the car i'll take care of the shipping back and you will be refunded on the spot.If you will decide to keep it and i am sure you will, you'll have to give eBay your approval to release the funds to me,ofcourse you'll decide that after that 3 day testing perioud.

i've got a space ship that can go 3 times the speed of light...

i'll only take 2100 for it.

tell him you'll give him 6k paid when the agent arrives or tell him you have a cousin in the military (same state) and which base he's at....

oh its a 2002 this week? last week was a 2005 ci somthing convertable...all the usual bs military blah blah except this one had a phone that wouldn't take messages and directions NOT to email. I guess they ran out of $3600 brand new accords. The real question shouldn't be is it a scam (duh of course it is....and if they will meet for cash for god sakes bring a friend or a gun!) ....No the real question should be what can we do to get EVEN!!!! Playing with our emotions getting us excited for deals that aren't there....these sob's are begging to get spanked!!!

Like always it's its to good to be true than it's a scam. Yet people will still fall for this sometimes. I would never buy a car that i can't inspect it myself. It's not worth it i don't think.

This is definitely a scam but I have used similar ideas for different purposes. If you think about it, I think you will get my point.

Fuck....What people would go to an extent to convince another gullible soul to hand them 5k. If I was you, I'd try to setup that meeting ---- at his military base if necessary ---- and beat him blue and yellow.

On a comment to this OP: Yes, it's a scam. Is he trying to dodge the questions? Yes. Is he trying to lure you out of $$$ before you see the car? Yes. Has eBay ever helped ANYONE but themselves? Yes. When did eBay guarantee for a seller? lol - Go report his account as hacked and supply them with the evidence you have gathered. They should look into it. What is his ratings saying? Good??

he sent me some email saying that the ebay agent is waiting for the funds, I told him I wanted to wait until I contacted ebay and made sure that the vehicle they documented in the invoice matched the vin number of what he told me. At this point he decided he would stop emailing.

he really fucked up when he told me the military has them locked away in a undisclosed location with no access to anyone outside. YET he was on the internet?

Let me guess he wasn't even using a .gov email address either , Right?

This has scam written all over it.

My rule of thumb, if I ask myself "Is this a scam?" then it is.
