I hope this is the right part of BHW to ask this and before I do let me say thanks for the invaluable info being share on this forum from which I have learned a ton myself.

So basically, I am currently starting to develop an app that gives push notifications containing info/offers from nearby attractions, events and things to do on the weekend or in free time for locals living in an area. The app wants to solve that question we get every now and then which is “what to do this weekend?”. The app also aims to help local businesses attract people living in an area to available attractions, events and similar things nearby. So the target group is not tourists from outside but rather residents/people of an area to attractions in that area.

I was just wondering if there are already similar apps out there and how this app concept is perceived. What do you guys think?

Appreciate all feedback and be as honest as you guys can about this idea. Thanks!

You have to figure out how you will get people to install your app. How will people find out about your app

There's etrigg.com, which pulls events from Facebook events, amoungst other places. I use it sometimes, sounds a lot like what you're thinking. www.nearify.com seems like another big contender in the niche. Nice idea, but like everything, making it is the easy part.

The idea is that many people live a busy life especially in urban areas and have difficulty finding things to do on the weekend. So many end up doing the same repeated things over and over again. People with children may want to try something fun for the weekend but researching and planning can get very tedious. So basically, the app focuses on daily getaways that can be done in one day and not on longer trips and spending nights away which can be considered as holiday/vacation. The attractions/things to do in the app are therefore all regional with a max travel time of 2 hours, if at all.

You guys think, there is a market for this?
