I was thinking about the big picture lately and what I've saw in aff conferences, forums and day to day business.

I remembered how relatively easy it was in 2005 to rank a payday loan site, to make an adwords account and so on. Also, how you could make a difference on POF with really aggressive banners and what those 2k to invest where there and what are they now.

The abundance of good scripts like senuke/scrapebox/xrummer and their success. Thinking about weight loss products what hype it was when acai berry/hcg/hoodia and how much we loved dr. oz, lol.

Then, you could've start with $100 bucks and really get away with it, with hard work and dedication. What about now? What would be an initial money need? How can a newbie still score in this game where ''hard work and dedication'' is still the trick, but more money were also added into the equation?

Don't you feel that the cake is becoming little and little?

Just think about mobile/display/ppc/seo changes and what resources are needed today to succeed

    What do you think?

As SEO project manager in agency, I had a lot of experience in experimenting and researching and to be honest, I don't believe that the pie is getting smaller, in fact it's only getting bigger. Of course competition gets steeper, however new opportunities also show up like new industries and affiliate offers. I believe it all comes down to the fact how good you are at researching. When combining the right tools I am still amazed how often I find low competition niches and keyword SEO and AdWords wise.
To some limitations it is still possible to be quite successful with proper research, hard work and dedication but to really excel you will have to invest.

I feel like it is a LOT more expensive in 2016. For example, back when I started, SEO could be done with Scrapebox and a bunch of other crap links, whereas now, in general, you pretty much need expensive PBN posts to do anything of substance.

I feel like it is not a lot harder for the noob to make fast cash, too. For example, the "noob" CPA networks are now filled with junk offers, whereas before they had good stuff (even the bad and/or small networks), like bizopp lead gens, PPI with basically-trademarked landing pages (Gamevance anyone?), etc.

    Hey Lostchiekurs,

But dont you think this is because you have experience in the field and you understand he rules completely different than a rookie? I do agree that for some, the pie is getting bigger, but I also believe for most is becoming smaller due to money needed to start, lack of software's and so on. Getting to know how to do a proper research nowadays, from my p of v is a lot harder. Just think about keyword tools - is gone, yahoo bl checker - gone, article submission - gone. Yes, there are ways around it if you have the money and knowledge, but isn't become a lot harder for someone who doesn't even know what good research even means?

That is my feeling too, that you no longer need $xxx to start, but $x.xxx. Maybe there are still possibilities for fast cash, but is that enough to get through the barriers of seo/ppc/display/mobile? For me, a proper niche research + tests, has become a rigorous task, and often I imagine myself doing the same thing few years ago and is not even close...
