Hi, I'm just about to buy my first expired domain.
I found it on https://www.expireddomains.net/ at $100. However, it seems to not be expired when I go to the URL.
What will happen if I buy it and transfer it to my hosting service ?

Going to the URL has nothing to do with whether it is registered or not.

Trying to do a search on a domain registrar (I recommend porkbun) is the way to check it.

All that not being able to open the page means is that they haven't set up the DNS settings yet.

If they're listing a price, it's most likely already registered and is up for sale on their or another website they're associated with.

Do a search on porkbun, if it says it's available and you're able to register it, it's yours. If not, registerable, your only option would be to buy it through expireddomains.net or possibly another platform offering it.

The other possibility is they're offering a drop-catch service where they will try and register it for you when it expires, though I doubt it at that price.

Without seeing the particular listing I can't be sure from your description.

It's probably a "buy now" domain. Sedo's list of domains isn't reliable. You'll find domains for sale on Sedo that are attached to real sites and most of them aren't actually available for sale. Sadly, the only way to know for sure is to send the seller an offer or buy the domain name if it's a "buy now" listing.

If the seller fails to respond or transfer the domain name to you after purchasing it, you'll receive a full refund.

Nothing wrong with that plan. Just make sure you are dealing with domain name seller on the trusted platform and/or marketplace. That is quite important to understand now.

What is the status of the domain on expired domains, in that case, it means someone has made a backorder. So you will be buying from them. You can go ahead to buy it, but i guess it will take some time to propagate to your hosting service.
