I'm wondering - if a WordPress theme is correctly built it ought to be just fine with SEO if the correct plugins are used right?

There seem to be a bunch of SEO theme out there that cost about $50 or more and I'm wondering if they really do have some 'magical' SEO property?

Has anyone had results from using a particular SEO 'friendly' theme?

    Thanks!

Genesis Themes (HTML5) specifically for Microdata. I have received positive results. But you have to configure it by yourself. Remember, no theme or plugins will bring you good result ; until you configure (on page seo) it properly.

There's no out of the box theme or plugin that will sort out your SEO. There are better and worse themes, but unless you have a SEO person to configure them properly, monitor, and tailor the content accordingly, you won't get the results you're looking for.

A theme is not a "magical pill" but a properly coded Wordpress theme can help in making the website more secure, better designed and increase page speed and thus is a very important part of "on page SEO". I personally own lifetime plus developer licenses of several Wordpress theme providers and Genesis framework and child themes are my first choice. Customization is easy, support is good, there is a large community and tutorials for using their themes, the themes are secure and lightweight. Thesis framework is also regarded as very good but I do not own licenses and have not used it till date.

Most reputed premium theme providers are doing a very good job in terms of following on page SEO rules.

Just worry about your content. WP is pretty good at SEO with some extra plugins installed, regardless theme (considering you're not using crappy themes). I'm using _s theme and customize each project based on my needs with great results so far. If white hat, content will make the difference. A framework like Genesis gets pretty expensive and I really don't know if it really worth buying. But it really depends on what you want to achieve and what your budget is.
